1 Chapter 1: Rainy Day

The clouds hung heavy in the overworld. The rain hit the ground causing small splashes. Otherwise, it was silent, no animal called, nor monster groaned. In this strange state, far off in a forest, was a small clearing, surrounded by towering trees, which guarded the space against most peering eyes. The space was at peace, oblivious to the small girl within it. She lay on her belly, buried under the branches of a tree, one of her feet was up in the air, swaying back and forth as she muttered quietly to herself. In her hands, sat a book. She was lazily flipping the pages, not quite taking in the sentences that swam before her eyes.

She kept glancing up and around. It had been unfortunate that she had been caught in the downpour. When she was young, at the first drops she ran inside, hands over her head. Her siblings had once teased her about it, but she still hated rain.

She mused to herself quietly she no longer had to worry what her siblings thought about her, and admittedly regretted it. They were probably worried about her, maybe even walking the plains searching. Calling her name over and over.

She did miss them.

They would probably be missing her too, their youngest sister, Kaico. Her mother had come up with her name, it was the type of name that belonged to someone colourful. That comforted her, her mother had known what she would be.

Carefully she closed her book and folded her arms around it, gazing at the cover. It was still just a tiny bit shiny, she could see a pair of violet eyes staring back at herself. The book itself was an instruction guide of sorts, on how to build different houses. She treasured it beyond anything else she owned.

That was when she heard a strange noise. It made her startle, she listened carefully and heard it again. It was a sort of terrible cry, and she had never heard anything like it. She huddled down to the ground, feeling a jolt of fear.

That was when she saw it, a towering black creature, it appeared only for a second, screaming before disappearing again. She knew those creatures, her father has told her they were monsters like no other. She had no weapons on her.

It appeared again, and only then did she realize it was in pain. She tilted her head and watched it scream and disappear, then she did the craziest thing she could possibly do, she broke one of the leaf blocks above her.

A stick fell down beside her, but no rain. She waited and sure enough, there was a tiny sound as the creature appeared beside her. She stiffened slightly, waiting for it to attack her. Instead, she heard a small sound, it was a chirp of sorts.

She dared peek at the long black lanky creature. "Your welcome." She said her voice slightly shaky, she shook her head slightly, "I never liked the rain very much either."

Then as if nothing had happened she opened her book and tried to read from it. Unfortunately, she could not help but feel the towering presence beside her. Still, they sat together in silence until the last few drops stopped falling. Kaico got to her feet, brushed off her skirt, and was ready to walk back to her home.

That was when she realized there was someone behind her. The Ender was following her. When she stopped, it stopped. When she took another step it took one with her. She sighed slightly and called back to it. "I just wanted to help you. You can go back to your home."

She heard a tiny zip and decided it must have listened. Carefully she tucked her book under her arm and gave the sky a worried glance. Soon it would be time for the monsters to come out. Her home was thankfully not very far away, she was fairly sure she could make it. Still, she hurried more than she usually would.

By the time she was within sight of her home, it was nearly nightfall. It was then she realized she was out of food. Unfortunately, she did not have any time to go hunting now, she would have to wait till morning.

She couldn't help but feel slightly sunken, when she had left home she was sure she could take care of herself. She wasn't doing the best job at following through.

But what choice did she have?
