A liar’s interests

"Kind of?! Why would you lie," exclaimed Dayton.

"If people know who my parents actually are they'd be crazy scared of me and I wouldn't make any friends. You wouldn't understand," said Serena glumly while looking at the ground. Dayton did understand, but he couldn't tell Serena that.

"Why didn't you at least tell me?" After Dayton processed what he said, he realized that wasn't the wise option. Serena looked up at him.

"Because I don't know you." She seemed more wary now. Dayton seemed surprised, but the feeling soon faded. He went to reach for her hand but stopped himself. He stood and stared at Serena's trembling body for a swift second before moving towards the locker room. As Serena heard his footsteps growing far she looked up with disbelief. She couldn't believe he just left her there like that, leaving without uttering a single word. She knew she had to let it go, they are still mere strangers to one another.

Serena jumped at the sound of the bell, almost tumbling off the bench. She quickly collected herself and yanked her bag off the ground. She slipped a bit from one of the tiny puddles in the floor and almost lost her footing but quickly regained it. As she ran out she caught a glimpse of someone next to the locker room entrance. She calmly walked back into sight of it and didn't see anyone. She looked around and slowly went back to running. When Dayton didn't hear her footsteps anymore he appeared around the corner and sighed. "Soon...soon," he muttered to himself.

Serena had music class next, so she stopped running after a while. She was quite fond of music, it's been the glue that holds her together for two years now. She had to find something to replace Dax. She pushed open the heavy double doors and walked in, letting them slam behind her. She looked around the room and saw a multitude of different instruments filling the room. Serena looked for the instrument she had grown to master. Lined up on a rack against the wall on the far side of the room, were several acoustic guitars. She had owned a guitar at one point, but her short temper at the time caused her to slam it on the floor and break it.

She was devastated afterwards, but no one was to blame but herself. When her guitar broke Serena borrowed one from one of her dad's colleagues. As Serena saw the rack of guitars, she was filled with pure joy and nostalgia. She ran over to it and slowly caressed one of the guitars. She gently lifted it off the rack and carried it over to the chair in which she decided to sit in. She set it on her knee and smiled. She plucked all the strings, one by one to check their tuning. After checking the tuning, Serena strummed all the strings a couple times. A few people turned their heads in her direction, but she ignored them. She played one of the starting songs she taught herself, surprised when she remembered the notes and rhythm. Some people stopped talking to listen while others kept doing what they were doing.

Music class soon ended but Serena didn't want to leave. She knew she had to go to her next class, so she carefully and reluctantly put the guitar back and left the room. She had science class next. She knew where the room was and arrived a minute before the tardy bell. The professor explained what the class was doing today and it wasn't much. The students were supposed to pick their science partners and ask each other questions to get to know each other. As soon as the professor let everyone go, the room filled with screams. Serena's ears rang with all the screams.

All the girls wanted to be with Thatcher. Dayton was sitting next to Thatcher, sneaking occasional glances at Serena. Serena wanted to work with him, but Thatcher took him from her. She looked around the room for someone available but she couldn't see anyone. Her eyes then landed on a girl sitting at a table by herself. Serena strided over to her and halted in front of the table. "Hey, would you like to be my partner?" asked Serena.

"Why don't you go try Thatcher? He'll definitely choose you." She had sarcasm in her voice, and it practically radiated off of her very soul.

"I don't want him as my partner, I don't think he'll do any work." The girl's face lightened and she looked up at Serena with a gentle and approving smile.

"Someone who'll actually work. I like it. Sit down." Serena hesitated, seeing as she's bossy but then Serena obeyed. The girl stared at Serena as she sat, grinning a sly grin. She looked Serena up and down before finally speaking. "So...what's your name demon girl?"

"Serena."

"That's a witches name baby doll. But I like it."
