Curse?

I heavily recommend listening to this song while reading this chapter. Robbie Williams, Nicole Kidman - Somethin' Stupid.

Fukashi climbed through the window of his room and almost fell through but luckily caught himself at the last second. It was the early hours of the morning, the sun had barely even peeked over the large mountains on the horizon.

The early morning chill was seeping through his school uniform so he quickly closed his window and jumped back onto his futon with a sigh of relief.

A sigh of relief that turned into a high pitched scream as he felt something move just next to him. His scream definitely woke up whatever was on his futon as it seemed to flail and waves its arms about.

Between the confusion, thuds and crashes one of the two eventually turned on the light. Fukashi released another sigh of relief when he saw it wasn't one of the paediatricians Akira always said to watch out for.

It was only Maki.

He rubbed his eyes and took another look, it was Maki. Why was Maki here? She was wearing her school uniform but her uniform was creased and her hair looked messier than usual.

She was wearing different glasses than usual, these ones were circular instead and reflected a sombre orange from the rising sun behind him.

"Why are you here?" He asked bluntly.

Her face showed a multitude of different emotions, embarrassment, slight anger and mostly worry.

"I was waiting for you." she said.

The words sent a weird feeling through Fukashis chest but he swallowed before asking. "Why?"

She avoided eye contact briefly before seemingly strengthening her resolve and looking him in the eye. "Well, you kinda just disappeared." Her hands went to her face and fiddled with her glasses.

"Oh" he again felt that odd feeling in his chest, he tried to ignore it. "Sorry" he didn't know why he was apologising, he just felt like he should.

She shook her head, he took notice of her green hair. He liked it, he had never really noticed it before, when the sun shined just like now it looked like all different types of green.

Dark green, light green, normal green, just green.

He felt his legs protesting, he didn't want to keep standing up.

He turned his futon into a mini sofa that he quickly turned and dropped on before leaning his head back and staring at the ceiling.

He felt the seat next to him drop with her weight and heard a sigh.

"Where did you go?" She asked, her voice seemed soft. He briefly noticed the sunlight streaming through his window.

"I don't want to speak about it" he said calmly.

A brief silence encapsulated them, he heard Maki rustling through her pockets.

"Do you listen to music?" She asked, what a weird question he thought to himself.

"No, not really" he remembered one of his uncles had loved playing the drums, he wasn't very good at it though.

She tapped his closed left fist, he looked down to it in confusion and saw something odd in her hands. "What's that?" He asked.

She didn't seem that surprised he didn't know what it was. "Earbuds, you put them in your ears" she gently pried open his closed fist and left the single wired earbud in his palm.

She put in one and he followed suit.

He had never heard anything like it.

He was used to the war drums of the Uchiha family of the majestic instruments he couldn't even pronounce when he was a child.

He felt himself relaxed, he didn't even understand what the singer was singing. He recognised it was in English and a few words about letting something happen but that was it.

He didn't know what they were saying, he liked it. His head dropped back further as he half closed his eyes.

Then all of sudden the song hit and he felt like he was flying in his mind, his constant worried thoughts about Akira, his new understanding about a curse he had inherited via his Uchiha lineage.

None of it mattered.

He felt her hand gently brush his and he reinforced the statement.

"I went to my family's ruins" he suddenly said, the music almost seemed to make it easier to speak.

A noticeable pause that worried Fukashi, he was about to turn his head but was stopped by her words.

"What was it like?" Her voice seemed gentle, it was quiet. The music should have blocked it out but her voice seemed to shout to him.

He wondered if his voice did the same to her.

"Bad" he summarised quickly, what other words could he say.

He just found out he was cursed, that he was fated to suffer, just like every sharingan user before him.

He had already suffered, why more.

The song had changed, it wasn't nearly as energetic as the last one. He recognised a few words here as well, it was about doing something stupid about saying love.

The music seemed soft as he closed his eyes and released a shaky breath.

"Why me?" he involuntarily let out in a soft breathy whisper.

Maki didn't respond, she only leaned slightly towards him. He could feel her shoulder pressed against his, he could smell her hair…it was nice, he had never smelt anyone's hair before.

But he doubts anyone else's hair smells this good.

The contact only made him relax more, he felt as if his body was almost pulled into the futon. He felt his heavy eyes start to close.

He didn't expect to be so tired.
