Sports Festival Prelude Part 4

——————————————————

-(Musutafu: Kujo Residence, Morning)-

"Good morning, JoJo~!" Emiko greeted. "Are you ready for the sports festival?"

"Of course, mom, you know I've been training," he replied, putting his cap on his head.

'That boy spent half of the time "training" by going on random walks and lazying about!' she remarked. 'Not only that, but he's also randomly moving around stuff when I'm not looking! Always when I'm around no less!!'

It was now the day of the sports festival; Jotaro had trained constantly with his Quirk and Stand throughout the past two weeks, slowly improving and even increasing the duration of his timestop (it was 6 seconds now and he didn't need to point to activate it anymore). His mother made plans to attend the sports festival with Inko Midoriya since they both got a day off from work at the local hospital - what a coinkydink. Emiko hugged her son before he made his departure.

"Alright, alright… I gotta go now or else I'm gonna be late."

"Are you sure, JoJo?" She sounded a little prudent this time. "Are you really sure?!"

"I'll be fine, but I hope don't get distracted by watching anything other than me at the sports festival," He said with a smile and a clench of his fist. "I am going to win the whole thing after all."

"Oh, my son is so prideful~! I wished you had that same pride when you do your chores-"

"-GOTTA GO FAST!!" Jotaro interrupted, hightailing it to the door and closing it as quickly as humanly possible before his mother went into one of her rants. "I'LL SEE YOU LATER!!"

As the door shut behind him, Emiko stood alone in their home; she was left staring blankly in the direction her son left - right before placing a hand on her forehead.

"Yare Yare Dawa..."

-(Musutafu: UA/Entrance, Afternoon)-

"This security check's taking forever..." a female reporter whined; she was the same woman from the USJ Incident.

"Well... a bunch of villains did just break in, and some people think they shouldn't be holding the festival this year, considering what happened…" her cameraman replied; currently, there were thousands of people waiting in line for bag checks

"Yet that's what makes this perfect!!" she yelled. "Nothing brings ratings up like a little controversy! Plus, everybody will tune in to see Class 1-A!"

The UA Sports Festival was the biggest event of the year; people from all over Japan, and around the world, came to see it. Fireworks of all kinds of colors were bursting in the air, a variety of booths were giving out toys or serving food and drink, and there were signs that helped direct people to first, second, and third-year stages; this was going to be crazy.

"I'm always psyched to see the third years since they've got the most experience with their Quirks! Plus, it's their last chance to show their worth!"

"Nah, this time, it's all about those powerful first years! I can't wait!"

"Hey, did you hear that Endeavor's son is one of the first-year students? Can you imagine?"

"No way, seriously? That's radical! But have you heard of the kid with the weird hat?"

"Who?"

"Apparently, he was at the U.S.J Incident! He took on villains with pro heroes!"

"No way! A kid?!"

"Yeah! He was said to be crazy strong! I hope to see him perform well in this year's festival!"

"Oh man, the stands for the first years are gonna be packed!"

-(Musutafu: UA/Sports Festival Stadium/Waiting Room)-

"Aw, man! I was totally hoping I could wear my costume!" Mina complained.

"It's all for the sake of fairness," Jotaro commented; he was a little relieved since his costume was ruined during the villain's attack. 'Ah- she'll probably have my new one ready sometime later…'

"I wonder what they have in store for us in the first round..." Sato was getting a little anxious. "What do you think, JoJo?"

"Most stuff relating to sports back in my school usually started with some sort of marathon, so it could be that." He then scratched his nose a little. "But that's just me thinking out loud…'

"A marathon..." Everyone at his table pondered his little proposal; they admitted that there was some logic behind it.

"I guess that might make sense!" Toru nodded. "But it's still very nerve-racking! What about you, Tokoyami?"

"Honestly, it doesn't matter what they've prepared; we must persevere," Tokoyami affirmed plainly. "If Class B-2 manages to get the upper hand, we'll all have to pay the price."

"Right." Shoji agreed.

The door suddenly opened and Iida appeared, bringing news about the tournament's beginning; he wanted to make sure his class was at the stadium as soon as possible. "IS EVERYONE GOOD AND READY?! THE EVENT'S ABOUT TO BEGIN!!"

"Swallow your fear, swallow your fear, swallow your fear…!" Mineta murmured to himself repeatedly; he was scared out of his mind.

Izuku also seemed to be trying to calm himself down, and Jotaro got up to leave for the stadium. However, unexpectedly, Todoroki got in front of him and blocked his path.

"Kujo and Midoriya," Todoroki said, getting the attention of his two classmates; some of the others in the waiting room took a glimpse to see what was going on between them.

"Hey, Todoroki! What's up?" Izuku asked, looking curious.

Jotaro raised an eyebrow before gazing at Todoroki. "Hm?"

To the side, Bakugo overheard and stared in the direction of the three. Pretty much in front of everyone, Todoroki then made some outrageous declarations to Izuku and Jotaro.

"From an objective standpoint, I think it's fairly clear that I'm stronger than you, Izuku."

"Huh?" Izuku didn't know what to say. "Y-Yeah…"

"And you..." Todoroki turned to Jotaro, looking at him in the eyes.

"What about me?"

"That time we did indoor anti-personnel battle training scenarios," he said, referencing earlier when Jotaro had beaten him. "You might be strong in closed spaces, but outdoors is where I excel - keep that in mind.

Jotaro stared at Todoroki without having so much as a scowl on his face; he was, surprisingly, visibly unfazed by all his appalling statements. "Whatever you say, man…"

Todoroki then turned back to Izuku. "All Might's got his eyes on you specifically now, doesn't he?"

"Huh?!"

"Honestly, I'm not here to pry about what's going on about that, but I want you two to know that… I will beat both of you." he declared, causing some of the others in the room to gasp in astonishment.

"What's with all these declarations of war lately...?" Kaminari remarked; Kirishima got up from his seat to split away the three and try to de-escalate the awkward situation.

"Hey, what's the big deal?! Why are you pickin' a fight all of a sudden?" he questioned, placing a hand on Todoroki's shoulder. "And right before we get started-"

"-We're not here to be each other's friends," Todoroki interrupted, shrugging off Kirishima's hand off his shoulder and walking away. "Don't forget that this isn't a team effort; we're all on our own."

"Wait a sec, Todoroki." Izuku began, causing him to stop and look back. "I don't know what's going through your head or why you think you'd need to tell us that you'll beat us, and, yeah, of course, you're better than me. In fact, you probably have way more potential than anyone in the hero course - that's probably why you got in so easily…"

"I'm standing right here, dude," Jotaro muttered, squinting at him as if he just ignored his existence altogether. 'He can't spot the obvious for shit…'

"Midoriya, maybe you're being a little hard on yourself and us..." Kirishima said, making a wry smile and putting up his hands.

"No, he's right, you guys!" he shouted. "All the other courses are coming for us with everything they've got, and I wanna be the world's greatest hero!"

Izuku stopped looking at the ground and stared right at Todoroki; he was about to make his own declaration. "I'll be going for it with everything I have, too."

"Fine." Todoroki replied.

"Tch..." Bakugo muttered.

"Yare Yare," Jotaro chuckled; today was getting very interesting. "Gureato Daze, Koitsu Wa…"

"OH YEAH!! LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE RABID SPORTS FANS!!" Present Mic announced. "Get those cameras prepped, media hordes! This year we're bringing you some of the hottest performances in sports festival history, guaranteed!"

From somewhere inside a tunnel, Class 1-A walked towards the center of the stadium, where crowds waited for the arrival of the first years.

"I've only got one question before we start this show; are you ready?!" Present Mic shouted, gesturing to the entrances below. "Let me hear ya scream as our students make their way to the main stage!"

"C'mon, Izuku/Jotaro~!!" Emiko and Inko were pretty excited to see how their kids would perform.

Class 1-A appeared - Jotaro and Izuku in front, with the rest following behind with the most determined faces they could put on. The thousands in the audience cheered at their appearance; it was an overwhelming turnout. Jotaro let out a short sigh, flicking the tip of his hat before smirking at the audience.

"Let the games begin…"
