Chapter 35

"he left his pride Wilson! He's reputation! Forfeited all those because of me!" She screamed.

To hell with pride, Wilson was making a whole lot of sense here and it scared Joey.

"You know I can be a good man Joey, you know that to be true"

"Stop Wilson! Stop that!" She closed her ears.

"Aw now what's goin' un here!" Davidson walked in.

Finding truth in what Wilson said,Joey ran away from the room and went back home.

What's wrong with me? No,he can't be right? Paschal is a good man,I know that to be through.

She pondered around her room. This was unfair to Paschal because she knew if Paschal was in her shoes right now,he won't do this. Still dancing around in her brain, she slept off.

Waking up several hours later, she perceived soup. Clearing her eyes and walking to the kitchen she saw that a pot of broth was on fire.

She was wondering what was going on till Paschal entered the kitchen.

"Oh,hi. You've woken up. Saw you sleeping on the couch and decided not to disturb" Paschal said smiling.

"Oh I was just--"

"It's okay. Go take a shower. You look blank. I'll prepare dinner" he pecked her as she went for the shower but not forgetting to add; "thanks".

"Babe..." Over the dinner, Paschal could feel Joey was a little bit dull. "...what's the problem?" He asked. "Nothing" she said and felt the lie was obvious. "I'm just so fed up about everything. I shouldn't have gone back to that house like you said" she constructed the lie.

"Oh it's okay. Don't worry, everything will be fine" he assured her lovingly. "I can spend all night with you if you want" he added. Maybe Joey will cease it as an opportunity to ask him about what Wilson said. She smiled to that. After dinner, they went to bed.

Summoning all courage to start the conversation, she tilted her head to talk to him as she laid on his broad chest.

But unfortunately for her,he was fast asleep. She sighed. Closing her eyes, she slept too.

She woke up the next day to a bright clear Friday morning. She didn't find Paschal on the bed and decided to tie her night robe and search for him.

She cleaned her eyes and yawned as she approached the sitting room which made Paschal to be alert; "oh,you've woken up" he said getting ready for work.

"Good morning" she greeted watching as he buttoned his sleeves.

"Morning babe. It seems you were really stressed out yesterday 'cos you woke up quite late today" he replied. "Oh I'm sorry"she said.

"you always do that" he smirked.

"what?" She was obviously clueless.

"Your fund of apologizing when you know you did nothing wrong" he cross checked his files to make sure they were complete.

"I didn't mean to. It just happened to come out from my mouth. I'm so--" she gave him his last file and he smirked at her again. "okay, you caught me. I'm sorry" and he smirked at her again this time which made them laugh together.

"It's okay babe. I'll be off to work now. Have a nice day and don't miss me much" he kissed her hastily.

"Paschal,I need to tell--"

"I don't have that time Rachel. I'm late" he said taking his office bag and car keys.

"But it's important. You need to--"

"Bye!" He yelled from the door step leaving.

Joey sat down helplessly and worriedly on the couch and decided to take her bathe. Everything's gonna be fine Joey, she told herself.
