1 A kind human

As the sun goes low I climb reluctantly out of my log in order to find food for me and my young. The humans in this community are daunting though, they give chase at sight of me even though I mean no harm. I just hunger..... Possibly a selfish thing for the humans considering all the food they throw into their containers full of nourishment waste. As I wander the land full of humans cautiously, a scent catches me intensely. I lose my cautiousness and I chase the smell. I see a human in the path. Feeling fear and dread for the chase that always ensues with humans I attempt an escape, ignoring the food that would sustain me, but I get caught in the fence. The humans attention rises as they come closer and I struggle to move. As I feel my heart drop I am...released? This human also gives me a part of their discarded food, he must have felt guilty for eating in a world like this. The human bestows the name Jeff to me and says I can come back if I'm hungry, he just wishes for me not to tip his container over. I return the next night, he has fruit for me and I eat my fill and carry what I can for my young. This goes on for many nights, until the lights are off on the full moon. I wait for a long time but I see no sign of the human. I go home with an empty stomach and empty hands. I return each night after with the lights still off and no sign of the human. I assume he has left for a while. A community like this is probably stressful, he must need time to breath in better air. I spot an open window and I use the long branch to reach it. He must have my share of food set out for me in this house. As I search for the food I also find the human. His hand is on his chest and he doesn't seem to breath. This human has reached his expiration date... He has left himself here for me to fill my stomach with though. A kind human he was. I will take what I can of him to my young..... I am able to take enough for me to be able to carry and I climb back out. as I reach unsteadily out to the branch I fall. the piece of flesh I had taken from the human goes to waste on the hard rock ground. I stare at it with dismay. Even a kind human can't fix my struggles with their flesh.... A land like this is insufficient to survive in. I must relocate my young while the white frost is still asleep. Good bye human.
