chapter 20

Sanniya

My eyes are wide as Jezal finishes whispering. Telling more than asking me what is going to happen. I don't want to accept the conditions. But Xavier will live. Then maybe we can figure something out.

Jezal kisses my cheek then vanishes. She reappears over Xavier. My stomach turns watching her hands sliding on him. She touches every inch of him from head to toe. Trails of green light where her fingers have been. His body goes limp.

"Xavier" I scream

Jezal begins chanting in a strange language. The beast begins to flicker and roar. The entire area is shaking violently. I turn to Alexis I really don't want to.

Alexis is doing more than I could have thought. She has the pistol and aims it at Jezals back. I move to grab her. She is going to ruin it, but a part of me makes me turn the other way. Towards my brother. The gun shots sound like rockets. She shoots until there are no more bullets. Jezal cries out falling on her face. I'm Xavier and leap on his chest. I hear Jezal groaning. The beast is in the air flying in a circle. I glance up at it and silently pray it won't turn on us.

"Hurry," Alexis yells while diving on Jezal.

I pulled out my knife and cut a dreamcatcher on my palm. For extra measure I carve one on Xavier's chest. I slam my bloody palm on his chest. At the same time Jezal is throwing Alexis away.

"No! No! No! Get away from him." Jezal is screaming, turning toward me.

The beast roars and is diving toward me. Xavier gasps opening his eyes. I freeze staring down into those bright blue eyes. I snap around feeling something pass by me head. Only inches from me is one of the beasts' claws.

Jezal is snarling and raising her hands. Wisps of black smoke swirling around her. Her eyes turn red then the beast swings, throwing her into the air.

Xavier screams and the beast vanishes. The walls flicker and return to their original shape. I fall onto Xavier starting to cry.

"Is it over" Alexis says

I look up at her. She looks fine but I still reach over touching her stomach.

"Yes for now it is."
