Grimly visitor

She woke up from a throbbing cheek caused by the slap, her eyes narrowed, pupils dilated. She could fairly recognize the blonde trait of her sister. Still, her voice is not clear, until now. She could feel the weight of Mia on top of her as she could tell that she is saying something base on the movements of her mouth. When she is conscious enough, all she could hear is gibberish words. “Wait, wait, slow down.”

“I heard someone keep knocking at the door.”

“Then, why didn’t you bother to look at it?”

“No sane people would go out at midnight and we don’t have any kittens,” Mia said out loud.

“What’s with the kittens? Fine, you stay here, I’ll go.”

“What if that’s a monster, the one who’s attacking people?!”

“Relax, we’re a witch, I-we can protect ourselves.”

She walks down at the wooden stairs, silently as possible, she’s wary to her environment for there might be a possibility for an intruder. She didn’t bother to turn on the lights as she might be able to alert the suspicious individual outside. She peeks at the spyhole and sees no one. She startled as another hard knock banging at the door.

She hesitantly questions, “W-Who’s there?”

A familiar voice said, “Is that supposed to be a joke? because I had better ones.”

Realizing who it was she hurriedly unlocked and opens the door “Gilt?! What the hell happened?”

“First of all, may I come in?” His face is abnormally pale, her lips are grey and the stamina she normally sees to him is completely depleted.

“Fine, you can come in.”

Kate let Gilt’s arm hang on her shoulder, leading inside their house onto the couch. She left him sitting and bring a glass of water. Gilt drinks it. “You know there’s no way that vampire can produce blood out of the water, right?”

“I know.”

“Then why bother?” He asked tiredly.

“It’s just, I don’t know, it’s just felt the right thing to do to a guest, I guess.”

“Gilt?” Mia asked, sitting on at the stair.

“Hey, kid.” Gilt raised half-way his hand, waving.

“Go back to your bedroom!” Kate shouted.

Mia pouted and then walks with a hard pounding in each step. Kate turned back her attention to Gilt.

“Okay, time for explaining. What the hell happened?”

“A monster brawl happened.”

“What do you mean?”

“There’s damn whosoever put a devil spawn in the forest fought me earlier.”

“I’m sorry what? A devil?”

“Yes, a fricking devil-ish.”

“It doesn’t explain why you’re in the forest. Care to elaborate?” Her brows raised.

“I was investigating, sort of. When I spotted a group of, delinquents, I knew that they’re the next victims so I took the liberty to use them as bait and to know what kind of foul creatures is hiding in the darkness and well… you can guess what happens next.”

Kate lunges, but Gilt whose reflexes are not gone caught her hands.

“You could’ve gotten yourself killed!” Kate yelled.

“Relax, I’m a vampire, I cannot be killed, well, not by that creature, has no brain though, he thinks that I’m also a human when he tried to suck my soul.” Said Gilt releasing the gripped of her wrist.

“What did you say?”

“Oh yeah, the guy can suck out your soul if you let him catch you.”

“Wait a minute!” Kate mouthed, chanting. Her eyes narrowing as a light shone in her eyes. “Crap.”

“What?”

“Your life force is leaking out.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means your soul is leaving your body!” She shouted as she stands up and goes inside the basement, “C’mon. You don’t want to die, do you?”

Gilt grunts pulling himself up with whatever strength he could muster.

“I’m a vampire, I’m already dead, besides it’s impossible to kill one if not stake in the heart and missy, that dickhead didn’t stake me.”

“Technically, vampires are cursed undead creatures with their soul lingers inside the body. If that monster is what I think it is, somehow broke the curse or something that is beyond the power of the curse to handle.”

“I don’t understand what’re you saying.” His movement cease as he landed on the couch. Kate, on the other hand, is looking for her grimoire, a book of a witch filled with different kinds of sorceries that has been passed through generations.

Gilt observes her, his eyes laid at the grimoire.

“I thought you didn’t want to learn Witches sorcery.”

“Well, I need to, it’s not like someone is gonna look after us, or protect us from any kind of danger, so…”

Gilt observes for a minute, he could see her tired eyes begging to be put in slumber, judging from it, he knew that Kate is having a bad dream, or probably it’s because of him, obviously he wouldn’t know until he asks.

“Are you having a bad dream?”

“How didn’t you know it’s because of you barging in the middle of the night?”

“Point taken,” he pauses. “It wouldn’t be hurt if you share it with me.”

“Yes, I’m having a bad dream.”

“Let me guess, you dream doing a smoochy-smoochy with that hippie?”

“He’s not a hippie!” She retorts, stabbing him with a glare.

“So, defensive. No need to be aggressive, ok lovebird? Seriously, what’s bothering you?”

“It’s just a bad dream.”

“Is the dream something about your parents' murder?”

She pauses which means Gilt’s hypothesis is true.

“You never told anyone about this? Not even your sister?” She simply nods, cornered “Listen, if someone knows how to handle demons, is me, alright. Take my advice, open yourself instead of finding a distraction to get rid of it well, I know that in some format, you didn’t intentionally want to do it, it’s just happened that, poof, instant responsibilities and yeah life is a bitch, but if this demons of you keep persisting, you need to seek out someone, because if not, it will be too late to save you from those demons.”

Kate pauses her eyes restraining the water pouring on her eyelids from lacrimal.

“I got to say, for a vampire who is a reformed killer, you sure know how to deliver good advice.”

“Hey, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology back in 1964.”

With that, she focuses back on finding the spell.

Gilt stares at her, observing every corner of her face, though not much everyone could see it, Gilt could see that Kate is tired, she’s trying to be positive as ever, someone must, not only for herself but to her sister. In the early age, Kate could feel the heavy responsibility alike to her parents, though, his uncle is somehow giving them expenses but it is not enough for them, she needed to work, so she entered a part-time job, she became a working student for four years and two years ago she manages to get a scholarship which lessens her burdened, but as any other people would think, she didn’t leave working and pursued on. Perhaps she is confident enough to do both things.

If there’s anyone who could understand what’s Kate going on, is Gilt. In the five hundred years of existence, Gilt also experience how to lose someone, unable to protect his kinsmen that is killed right in front of him, for a sin that they didn’t commit. He was exiled at their home, forcing him to stand up on his own. Even now, the memories of his kinsmen hunt him in his dreams a reminder of what he was before this horrific creature.

A few minutes passed by; Kate manages to find a spell to fixed Gilt. He averted his gaze quickly enough for Kate not to notice.

“Lucky you, I found a spell that could fix you.”

Kate sat down in a more comfortable position. She places the grimoire at the wood bookstand. Gilt eyes followed Kate as she opens a box and grabbed something, she wears the necklace that has an oddly looking eye.

“What is that?” Gilt came closer to get a good look.

“It’s a talisman. It came from Egypt called the Eye of Horus. This will amplify the spell I’m going to use on you.”

“Amplify you say?”

“The spell requires a large amount of life energy; I couldn’t use mine as it might affect me. So, I’m gonna used the life force of nature.”

“Wait, wait. Isn't that kinda double edge sword, since nature life force doesn’t just contain positive energy but also negative energy?”

“I will take the risk.”

“No, no.” Gilt was about to stand up, but Kate couldn’t let him, she cast a spell that stops his movement.

“What the hell?” He asked.

“Don’t worry I’ll fix you.”

Kate begins to chant the spell, her hands placed at the talisman, it was long and uncomfortable as the atmosphere became heavy, hard to breathe on. Finally, when Kate finally gathered enough energy, she releases it into Gilt.

“You fine?” asked Kate, panting.

“I thought you’re gonna show some kind of magic tricks.”

She chuckles and as she stands up, the world slips through her finger.
