Jack-of-all-trade, The Skill Borrower

Warning I lost most of my work for this, just the writing would have sucked but I also lost my huge amount of planning and its too much work to try and rebuild what I was writing, so I’ve stopped writing this and started a new novel. It’s very different from this one though, but if you’d still like to support me it’s called “For I will be the war Empress.” I am a student though so posting stories won’t really be on a fixed day but I’ll try my best. Anyways, thank you for reading this. The world is at its peak of technology, Many things that seemed unachievable were now at arms length. Yet even now, Money is still what really controls the world and the people. Those who have too much time began to spend time in a virtual reality game that is so vast and open, that there are still many places that haven't been open. This game was called The Lands of Oasis. Like many others, this man has a hard time with money, earning minimum wage from a local convenience store, which he hates, but he needs to pay rent after all, but he's not self absorbent, he was also working to pay off his dead father's debt, and mother's hospital fees. He was once a top player in RPG games but now, he has no choice to live by working until he spotted a great deal with the game he has always wanted to try, A boarding house for gamers, specifically for L.O players. The male managed to get a deal with only having to pay 30% the amount that was meant to be paid for half a year, room and gaming equipment and food included, he rushed to take the chance. Earning money however he could within the game, Even getting a legendary and one of a kind class. Without realizing it, his job slowly became something he truly loved, now slowly aiming for the title of number one player. Yet what if there was something else that was brought with his luck, while in a random party, a member suddenly acts weird before logging off. The next day, they were found killed. At first, the boy wasn’t going to mind it, but the moment he witnessed his own companion, he himself felt he had to find out what happened, both inside, and outside the game.

01 18 - Money Deal

By the time I woke up, it was morning again and the sun was already up. I just laid there for a moment before panically sitting up in confusion, looking at the time and seeing that it was 7am.

"Oh my god, I only have an hour left-"

I just rushed it, I didn't shower and just put my uniform right away so I wouldn't have to change later, and I just rushed it out the house, down the street and to the bus stop.

Now it was the longest step, having to wait for the bus and get to work. A few minutes later the bus finally came, but considering I live far away it was going to take half an hour before I got there, but it was better than nothing for sure.

Soon, the bus came and I quickly hopped on and sat to the side, my leg shaking as I waited patiently, not really being able to do much considering the fact I'm not the one driving or anything.

8 minutes left and I reached the convenient store in time with small huffs. The other person here waving and heading to go change as I went to the break room and put my work bag away.

"Hah, lucky, I don't think I'll ever stay up again."

I grumbled to myself before switching with my other co-worker to start the day.

The day was like usual, re-stocking the shelves, heating up the water for the people who'll buy cup ramen, the usual. While sweeping the floor, my eyes went up to the tv, seeing it on the news again.

It was related to the girl's death in L.O again, confirming how she died.

"The death of the woman was confirmed by the police to be an accident, the outlet connected to the Silver Mind device was broken, causing electrical shock that made the parts inside of the equipment to fail and eventually, kill the woman."

Knowing there was more to it, it was an obvious cover up, and the only reason would probably because Silver Mind's creators wouldn't want the backlash.

I still had a huge feeling it was by a murder, it was too strange... Wait I shouldn't think to much about this, the detective only said to say something if I saw suspicious activity.

"Don't get to involve in it.."

I mumbled to myself before hearing a costumer come in, quickly bowing and going back to the register to help them whenever they needed me.

The rest of the work hour was good, there were some unpleasant people but half the time it was okay, until one familiar person came in.

"Welcome back."

It was the PK kid, this is like his third time coming to visit me, I was starting to think he actually may be obsessed with me.

"I'll be straight to the point, fight me."

I looked at him confused as he leaned against the counter. Is this guy okay?

"Well one I'm working, and two if it's in game I'm only level 28."

I looked at him dead in the eyes as he struggled to figure out his words.

"Well uh, then go on a quest with me. I want to see your skills and why it was you who got the skill."

He says it like the skill came to me when I just happened to find it by chance, or did I? The path did seem to come out of nowhere but it was more hidden in plain sight.

"Wait wait, don't you dislike me? Also the skill is just borrowing a skill you see or got attacked bye, I don't exactly know how to "show you."

He looked determined and didn't want to let go, I guess since he worked hard to try and get it he just wants to see it.

"Fine fine, tomorrow we'll do that, in the afternoon and we can meet by the statue."

I spoke shooing him away, he seemed to be happier.

"Don't go back on your words."

He spoke before leaving, and just as he left, Kyun came in with a wave.

"Hey hyung!"

I waved as well, noticing the time was still pretty early.

"I came a bit earlier since I haven't talked to you in a while and all."

He smiled before walking over and leaning on the counter.

"That's true, we haven't, and you were the one who told me about L.O and all."

I let out a small yawn while the other boy spoke.

"Yeah, but I've been busy now since I have to focus more in classes, I want to do better."

I chuckled teasing him a little bit.

"Well that's good at least, go change it's almost time for me to go."

He nodded and walked to the back to get changed, then once he was done we switched and I went to change as well. Once I was done I came out, decided to buy a drink while I'm here.

"Once your free we should play again, I've been focusing on my quest but I need to level up."

I spoke as I paid for the drink.

"Yeah we should, when I do get free we should for sure."

I nodded before waving goodbye and heading home.

On the way home I decided to buy some bibimbap for dinner, making sure to hide it once I'm hope to avoid a certain woman from asking for some and rushed off to my room. I ate, took a shower, then wore something comfy and just laid in bed for a moment. I was tempted to sleep but then I remembered, I had to check on Leaf, and we'll Less too.

I got up then got into the game. Once I opened my eyes, I was in the fields.

"Right, I logged off here."

I rubbed the back of my neck before taking a big stretch. Time to head back to the capital. I looked towards the forest, already knowing the struggle I'll have trying to get through it.

As I walked, I texted Less by friend message telling him to meet me at the statue in a bit, he was on and replied okay and I hurried off to get back.

It was annoying having to fight off the the beasts in the forest that just wouldn't stop trying to take my head, but soon I managed to get to pass the gates and they finally stopped.

I looked like a mess, a stick in my hair as I just swatted it out my hair.

"Okay, now to check on Leaf."

Even though I got annoyed by it at first, now if anything happened to Leaf, I would simply pass away.

I walked towards the statue, seeing Less standing by it, I walked over and Leaf was the first one to notice me and instantly jumped at me like the first time I met it.

"Ack- well hi-"

I had to pull them off my face and let them just sit on my hand. I noticed some people were watching, I guess it's not common to have a pet wyvern?

"That brat is seriously troubling, I left it in my house and I come back to ruined books."

I looked at him then down at Leaf with a chuckle.

"Sorry about that, but wait you can have houses?"

Less nodded before pulling me along, walking towards the castle.

"I bought it for my work and to leave items that I'll sell. Anyways, you said you wanted info on something right? Also I need the treasure we took from the dragon."

Right the dragon, I remembered I borrowed the dragon's skill, well I don't know if I did, I don't actually know if it worked or not, but I'll check it out later, for now the main reason I wanted to keep in touch with Less.

Once at his home, I took of the necklace that had the black pearl and had it on my open hand, reached out towards the other male.

"what?-"

the green haired boy looked at me confused before I explained to him what it was, it was the cause of my blood and Leaf's saliva mixing, and that it needed the skill analysis to know what it was.

"Oh I see, so you want me to use analysis on this thing?"

I nodded as he took the pearl from my hand, Leaf going onto my shoulder for a better view on what's happening right now. With saying just one word, a red magical circle went onto Less's eyes, his eyes fixed on the pearl.

After a while he placed it down back into my hands.

"It's the typical bond pearl, except I don't know how you exactly make it turn black and have that marking, but other than that, it's connected to both of you, so as long as you keep it nearby or on you, Leaf can always track you down no matter how far."

I looked at the necklace in surprise before putting it back on.

"Oh also, you can have it go into that pearl when you go offline, it's like a spacial pearl but you can't store items into it, and it's only for the wyvern."

Oh that was even better, this necklace had really good perks, at least I don't need to be worried about leaving Leaf alone.

"Hey, do you wanna work together?"

I got slightly confused by the question when the green haired man asked, I looked at him while finally putting the necklace on properly.

"I need someone to do get the stuff, and then I can use my merchant skills to sell them, then we both get money easily."

That felt kind of unfair considering I'd probably be the only one doing work, but again, I don't know much about selling and this guy clearly has more experience so I guess it's okay.

"Then it's 50/50 yeah?"

I offer my hand out as he nodded in agreement, and like that, I managed to get a partnership with someone who sold me something cursed, but at least this way I'd get money.

"Though we should get you leveled up first, most things people want to buy are higher leveled, be happy I gave you a good armor and that I'm higher level as well, I can help you level up."

The boy grinned proudly while Leaf began to fly around playfully.

"Wait, what level are you?"

I asked while standing there looking around a bit.

"Oh I'm level 95, I'm not just a merchant, I did have to get my own stuff to sell at one point."

To be continued...
