Chapter 2

A week had passed since the graduation. Monah was in her room trying to recover from the stunt Ted had pulled. She guessed that the reason that could've made him act that way was because she didn't want to give up her virginity just yet.

He had always complained about Monah not wanting to grow up, calling her childish. But Monah was keen on keeping herself pure until she was to get married. Her father had given her a letter from Regency Academy. She hadn't opened it for three days nor was she eager to open it. But her curiousity pushed her into peeking through the letter finally.

She couldn't believe it, it was an acceptance letter to the college. It consisted of courses focused mostly in science topics. Only students from a wealthy background could afford to study there. The poor ones depended on a scholarship to be able to get accepted in. Monah couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. She had always known that she wanted to attend that specific college, and now that it was finally happening, she couldn't wait to start her journey. At least it would help keep her mind away from Ted and allow her to start her life afresh. She wasn't going to lose her purity over a simple boy, nor would she allow her pride to be dragged to the ground all to please the world.

Monah was alarmed by a sudden knock on the door. She stood up from the couch and opened the door. Her face brightened as she realized it was Tamara.

"Hey girl, come in!"

Tamara handed a letter over to her friend.

"Is this what I think it is?" Monah asked.

"Yes! I've been accepted to the Regency Academy." Tamara screamed excitedly.

The two girls jumped around cheerfully.

Monah handed her friend her own letter.

"You've been accepted too?" Tamara shouted in excitement.

The two girls continued to jump up high.

"We're going to share a room, meet some hot guys, laugh at the lecturer's,even stay up late as long as we want!" Monah shouted.

But then suddenly a frown befell Tamara's face.

"Monah, my brother is also going to be there. He got accepted too.." she said.

"What? He didn't tell me he applied there. He said he was going to a business school and work for his dad."

"Ted is stubborn and he hates business. He's not even good at commerce." Tamara explained.

"So he lied to me." Monah said in a low voice.

"I'm sorry girl. I'll try to convince him to change schools."

The two girls sighed in disappointment.

"Let's look at the bright side, at least we'll both be doing science." Said Monah.

Tamara giggled.

"I'm doing Geology and you're doing Biology, two different courses." She stated.

"But they are not too different.. we'll be studying the various molecules and how they are structured."

The two girls began to laugh.

"So do you think Michelle is also going to be there with him?" Monah asked in a straight face.

"No. I doubt it. I've never seen her in a science class."

"But I have."

Tamara was perplexed.

"Really?" She wondered.

"Yeah, but it was maybe once or twice. Unless she was actually checking in Ted and still I didn't even see it."

Tamara placed her hand on her mouth, her cheeks were red in embarrassment.

"I can't believe I was so stupid!" Monah added.

Her friend grabbed her hand..

"Stop that! Ted is the one who's stupid. He's a loser."

Monah had always dreamed of attending the prestigious Regency Academy known for its excellent academic programs and beautiful campus. But her father was hesitant to send her there due to the high tuition fees. Despite his reluctance, Monah's academic excellence and determination had earned her a scholarship that covered most of the costs.

However, after hearing that Ted was accepted at that same college, Monah began to feel restless. She couldn't bare the thought of bumping into Ted and Michelle every single day. She knew it would be awkward for her and Ted wouldn't even give a care in the world. He would enjoy seeing her suffer. As she was deep in her thoughts, Mr Spencer entered the house. Looking at the frown on his daughter's face, he was certain that she was still thinking about Ted.

"Ahem!" Mr Spencer cleared his voice

Monah fixed her eyes on her phone and was reluctant to talk to anyone.

"Come on. Don't tell me you're still thinking about that Pollock kid, he's way below your standard."

Monah placed the phone down and exhaled heavily.

"He is popular, wealthy and super hot. His dad owns a lot of companies in this country as well as internationally. I'm below his standard. What do we have, a farm?"

Ben paused for a while. He walked towards his daughter and wrapped his arms around her then kissed her on the forehead.

"You have me. Am I not enough?" He asked.

Monah felt a slight guilt. She immediately regretted her bitter words and wished she hadn't said those insensitive words.

"Sorry... I guess it's one of those days.." she said.

Ben smiled

"It's definitely one of those days. But tell me kiddo, what's eating you?"

Monah's palm began to sweat. Her forehead also. Her father knew her well. He glared at her without a blink. That irritated her daughter and he knew it.

"Argh! You'll never let this go, will you?" She asked, annoyed.

"You're my daughter. It's my duty to worry about you."

Monah sighed.

"I want to change college." She stated.

"Change college?"

"Yes. I mean, I could do the same course but in a different institution."

Ben was perplexed.

"Why would you want to change college, Regency Academy is the best place for someone like you. Your grades are high and you should be happy because there's not a lot of your peers who get an opportunity like this one."

"Dad, please. You'll just pay the admin fee. Everything else will be paid by the scholarship." Monah pleaded.

Her father would not budge.

"The admin fee is 200$, transport is another fee." Said Mr Spencer..

"Dad, I have to change the school. Ted will be attending this one. I don't want to see him all the time."

"We can't afford to send you to another college. We barely scraped by as it is."

Monah was disappointed.

"As for that Pollock boy, forget about him. He's not worth giving up your future for.. You'll find someone else, someone better." Mr Spencer pressed.

Monah sat there and watched as her father walked away annoyed. She was ashamed that she had caused such distress. If only she was wealthy, she thought to herself. She wouldn't have to face her ex and his new girlfriend. In fact she would afford to actually be friends with the rich and the handsome. And who knows even find someone who would appreciate and love her.
