Chapter 44

Julie:

Around midnight, a phone ringing disrupted the quietness of the night. Groggily waking up, I saw Mary and Justin in deep conversation, contemplating whether to answer the call. Ultimately, Mary decided not to pick up, and I realized it was time for me to leave.

“Mary, I don’t think it’s a great idea for me to stay. Alex made it clear he didn’t want to see me. I’ll call a taxi, and I’ll go pick up Angel,” I told them. Grateful for their support, I went upstairs, gathered my daughter and the few belongings left, and headed back downstairs.

Expressing my gratitude to Mary for everything, I shared my new address and requested she keep it confidential. With Angel by my side, we stepped into the waiting cab, ready to embark on the next chapter of our lives. As the cab drove through the night, I contemplated the fresh start ahead, in a place where no one knew my past.
