Chapter 7 – Strange luck

Even though Sadao had thought for a while that "Ruri" was a somewhat humanized little female cat, the subsequent developments surprised him. She wasn't just humanized; she seemed downright enlightened!?

Let's not even talk about her obediently following him around when he went shopping. Later, while he was selecting cat food for her, she even reminded him in a human-like manner about which flavor of cat food was better.

Although he had heard people talk about stray cats that are particularly friendly, even going home with people willingly, this level of intelligent stray cat was a first for him.

Could it be true, as he imagined, that this cat had become enlightened?

After having this thought, almost subconsciously, Sadao decided to stop paying attention to "Ruri." Anyway, he hadn't officially adopted this cat, so ignoring her wouldn't be the same as abandoning her.

Sadao understood the principle of not standing under a dangerous wall. He didn't want to get involved in something dangerous.

But thinking again, if this world did hide some unknown secrets, wouldn't it be completely defenseless if he knew nothing about them? While bringing this extremely intelligent cat home could potentially lead to danger or even loss of life, compared to being clueless when a crisis arises, he hoped to be an enlightened fool. Well, being a confused fool didn't seem too bad either. Once he knew certain things but couldn't do anything about them, wouldn't that be inviting trouble?

Although torn, Sadao ultimately couldn't bring himself to heartlessly abandon the pitiful little cat.

After buying the necessary ingredients and cat food, he planned to head back. While continuing his stroll was an option, his stomach had begun protesting, and it was time to prepare dinner.

However, just as he walked out of the supermarket doors, he was stopped by a staff member. "Excuse me, sir, could you please wait for a moment? We're holding a lottery event today. Anyone who spends over a certain amount in our store gets a chance to participate. If you're lucky, you might even win the latest model monitor. Could you please let me check your shopping receipt?"

Sadao was first puzzled, then suddenly enlightened. It was an event, no wonder.

Even though he didn't think he'd win any big prizes, free giveaways were never a bad thing. So, he handed over his shopping receipt to the supermarket staff.

After a glance at the receipt, the staff member showed a standard smile. "Congratulations, sir. Your total purchase amount qualifies you for a lottery chance. I wish you the best of luck in winning your desired prize."

"Thanks..." Although the staff's blessing seemed quite fixed, Sadao politely thanked them, "Is the lottery done with this machine?"

"Exactly. All you have to do is pull the lever on top, and a small ball will come out of the lottery machine. If it's a red ball, you win our grand prize!"

After listening to the explanation, Sadao nodded slightly and began turning the lever on the lottery machine. Even though he didn't have high hopes of winning a grand prize with this kind of lottery, he thought that winning a roll of tissue would be reason enough to chuckle.

However, life's twists and turns are always unexpected. Sadao, who had never had much luck, unexpectedly struck gold this time.

Watching the red ball fall, not only Sadao but even the staff widened their eyes. How was this possible!? They had tampered with this lottery machine, but how could it still produce a ball? Something was definitely off!

"Uh..." After a while, Sadao finally recovered from his shock. He still felt somewhat incredulous but asked, "Did I just win the grand prize?"

The staff member wanted to say that prizes like these were just gimmicks, but if he dared to say that, he might not have a job tomorrow. However, he genuinely didn't know how to handle this unexpected situation. Normally, he should give away the latest model monitor as agreed. Still, he wasn't sure if his boss would allow him to do so.

"Hey, hold on for a sec!" Finally, the staff member couldn't handle the mental pressure anymore and reached out to contact his boss... In this situation, the only person who could make a decision was his boss.

Sadao found the staff's actions more amusing than anything else. He wasn't a naive student; he naturally understood what this staff member was worried about... But more than these things, he was curious about winning the grand prize. No matter how you looked at it, this was unbelievably weird. He's just a regular guy when it comes to card drawing and lucky draws, but today, he miraculously hit the jackpot. It felt strange, to say the least.

Could it be this cat's doing?

He instinctively turned his gaze towards the still obedient little cat, "Ruri"... And, unsurprisingly, he couldn't figure anything out. "Ruri" just stood there quietly.

Yep, nothing suspicious...

Sadao sighed quietly; at this moment, he really wished he had the ability to talk to animals.

"Sir, may I ask where you live?" Just as he was daydreaming and lost in thought, the staff member's voice reached him.

Unlike the earlier enthusiasm, the staff member, despite trying to look spirited, couldn't hide the desolation on his face.

You could imagine he probably got a good scolding from his boss earlier.

"I live in XXXX..." Even though he wasn't sure if there was a conspiracy involved or if his luck had finally turned, well, he was going to take that latest model monitor.

The staff member answered while jotting down his address on paper. "Got it. Later, I'll have someone deliver the latest model monitor to you!"

"I appreciate it..." Sadao nodded with a smile and then left the place straightforwardly. Of course, before leaving, he didn't forget to acknowledge the unfortunate staff member, "Well then, I won't disturb your work any longer. See ya!"

"Have a safe journey!"

Even though there was bitterness inside, the staff member forced a cheerful spirit and politely offered his farewell.
