9 I misunderstood

The girl groaned and struggled to take a proper breath. It seemed that she was in a lot of pain, to the point of me almost feeling sorry for kicking her in her chest.

"Ah! Ahhh!"

The girl's painful groans turned into screams of insanity. She was going wild, so wild that her body started spasming.

Witnessing this scene, I felt confused. My kick shouldn't have hurt her to the point of her having a whole stroke, yet there she was, acting like a person that has lost her sanity and was possessed by something.

"Rrr..-Rarghhhhh!"

Like a mad zombie, she charged at me, her face no longer has any traces of innocence.

To this outcome, I could only sigh. I had to commit my first murder and had to do so upon a child too. I was not ready, but I knew I had no choice.

'She wouldn't want to suffer. She'd rather have it all end.' I thought to myself as I prepared myself for another battle that would be nothing but bloody.

My hands and legs were ready, my breath stable… The girl was nearing me, and at any second, a soul would be leaving this room. To my surprise, right when the girl was about to get close enough to my attack range, she stumbled on her own. She fell on her knees and did yet another thing that was out of my expectations.

She started throwing up, puking out green fluids out of her mouth.

She lifted her head and looked at me, "I'm sorry…" She mumbled, and not a second later, she fell on her back, unconscious.

To this action of hers, I showed no reaction. 'Fool me once but not twice,' is what popped up in my mind as I looked at what had happened just a second ago. I had my doubts about her actions.

For all I knew, her sudden loss of consciousness could be just another ploy to lure me in without my guard up.

I eventually approached her, but not without caution. My heart and entire being were ready to react if she displayed any unusual signs..

When I was already a meter close to her, she still remained unmoving. It seemed that she was really unconscious. Still, I did not let my guard down. I gave her body a slight push with my bare toes, and while doing so I was ready to trample on her face if she were to suddenly wake up and attack me.

After waiting a while and seeing no reaction, I looked at the very next thing that needed my attention.

That vomit of hers. I figured that there was no way for her to have vomited and spasmed without a reason. My simple kick should not have had any influence, so there has to be something else.

Maybe I'm just paranoid when it might be something that has to do with her ability instead. I was certain that there was more than me being paranoid. Call it a gut feeling maybe.

Full of caution, I took a few steps closer to the pool of green liquid that didn't seem too different than the venom on her nails.

What if that's also the same venom that she might have vomited because of the kick near her stomach? Is her body full of venom then? Or, is she poisoned?!

As I thought more about the questions that appeared in my mind, the situation of this girl started turning into something more deep. I figured that her being a zombie might have been a wild fantasy of mine. Because now that I had the clues to think more realistically, I began to realize that she might just be a poor girl who was driven by a poison that was making her insane.

While I was connecting these pieces of clues together to form my own conclusion, something drew my attention. Right where the pool of green liquid was, I noticed the movements of a small white creature that looked like a strand of hair.

A worm?!

To be exact, it seems that there were parasitic worms inside the girl's body. So, she wasn't under the influence of poison? Is the green liquid, not venom then? Or is it?

As usual, the more clues I gained, the more confused I became. I sighed upon this realization. There was nothing for me to do in this situation other than to stop thinking too much.

The girl's background is too vague, along with this world's laws and science. I did not know the better, and could only wait for more clues.

Stepping away to avoid the worm, I went back to the girl. Watching her sleeping so peacefully, I was certain that something was influencing her before. Whether it's the parasite, poison, or a zombie virus, in the end, she may be nothing but an innocent victim.

Hoping that she was no longer influenced by anything, I decided to check her heartbeat through her neck. As for why her neck, this is so I can crush it if she wakes up to attack me… I know that that might be extreme for me to do so, but I have no choice, as I do not want to die.

"She's alive…" I whispered after checking her.

Since she was alive, I decided to bring her out of the room. There was green liquid splattered almost everywhere, so I couldn't just leave her here. Also, I was curious about her. I wanted to know if she's better now or if she's still under the influence. If it's the latter, I wanted to have her be my first kill, for practice.

But if it's the scenario where she's finally better and able to communicate properly, then I'd ask her some of the questions I have in mind. In short, she's the perfect source of knowledge needed in this world for me.
