Cold Morning

"What was that?"

"Was that my memory?"

"Who am i?"

Frei just now has realized that he has zero idea about who he is and who he was. Nothing about the dream made sense, to him he knew nothing about what was an elevator, or anything about destiny. So for what reason would things that he has never seen before be revealed in a dream, yet to Frei the dream felt oddly familiar. Whether or not it meant any significance at all didn't matter to him, all it mattered was the reason for the dream. Frei wondered, laying in the hay that had been sleeping on for hours only then to be disturbed by the singing of birds, and the sound of rain.

Frei looked out the window, the rain relentless and the sound of the dropping rain can be heard reverberating through the roof. The noise covers most of the sounds in the stables, any other sounds are muffled by the relentless rain.

The air was cold, chilling Frei, leaving Frei shaking and shivering. He hadn't ate breakfast yet and was both hungry and cold, and with only the hay to keep him warm. Frei pick all the hay and tried to form a blanket, then a sudden light and warmth came from behind him.

Then a voice muffled by the rain and only slightly audible can be heard from the light.

"Holy shit, Johnny, you knew magic?" yelled someone in the stables, after Johnny had lit up a fire using the hay.

The other slaves rejoiced in the warmth and light lit up by Johnny. The sight of magic and the fire had the others curious and then there was a sudden commotion.

"Well, I learnt it when I was in school. Though only a little."

"Were you an imperian?"

The entire stables turned silent. The air has grown colder and suddenly all that can be heard is the smoldering fire and the sound of the rain.

"No. Of course not. If I were, you'd think they would put me in this place? I learnt the magic from my mom, she'd teach me using a picture book."

The tension in the air grew looser and there was a commotion again. With each one of them asking him to teach them magic. Frei too was curious as it was the same thing he saw before with "Gloria"'s water bubble.

"Sorry, but I don't actually know how magic exactly works. Once it's in your mind, it's in your mind you will forever know it. I didn't practice much before at all."

"How did it feel? Like the workings like you know, the feelings in the body. Like tell us ur process."

The others asked curiously as they have never seen a magician for all their life. Though not without reason, some were simply here in Freiheit their whole life with no way out and few were born here. But all due to the unfortunate circumstances ended up here in Freiheit.

"It felt like…" Johnny said unable to form a full answer.

"Like the entire body was pulled. L…li..like a magnet. Yeah like a magnet though only a little."

"Can't imagine that. A force pulling you without anything pulling you, it's like there's a ghost. Why?"

"I am not sure… I only practiced until I was.. Well I..I never wanted to become a magician…I don't even know why I became a physician in the first place."

Johnny went off into a trance for a short moment, thinking about the decision that he had made, and the reason that he had made it. Only interrupted by a completely unrelated question.

"How did you guys end up here? Y'know working in these thick shackles."

The stables went silent, all of them tried to recall their past, thinking about the times when they were still free and their life leading up to this moment. Some have been in this place for so long that they had forgotten all about it. Where did their time all go? A depressing question loomed in their head.

"I was sold, duh. Sold for a mere 10 coins. How depressing."

"Well no shit. I was a mercenary,I fought in a battle for Fort Latana only to lose so.. So terribly. I lost my good friend and comrade, he sacrificed himself to protect me from an incoming arrow only for me to end up in this place. I trained for days and nights, all lost for a fat stinking sack of shit! An idiot he was too going up against a fort defended by the fucking Holy Knights." What about you, big man? While pointing at Berg.

In a husky voice Berg replied "Well, I don't quite remember the whole story anymore. I think I am around 50 years old now? I have seen CornWall grow up ever since he was a tiny little boy." Berg looks out into the distance, into the rain trying to recall his past life. Why was he here again?"
