Basics of Magic(2)

Frei gleams with joy and "Gloria" leads a big wide grin at Frei. Frei looked at her face while the light of the moon reflected off her face.

"Nice feeling right?"

"Y-Yeah." Frei said as he looked at both his hands, smiling.

They both sat back down on the grass, Frei beside her, continuing the book where they had just left off and she flipped to another page. There's a big sized word with a little flare, small drawings of fire and its fiery particles are drawn all across the page. As to give off a fiery effect. Underneath the big sized word are again, cute little drawings depicting the process, and besides the drawing are instructions given to successfully cast fire magic.

1.Put up your hands

2.Close your eyes

3.Think about the heat of the fire

4.If you feel yourself becoming warmer, you are ready to cast

5.Fire appear

She slowly explained each word and its meaning to Frei, her eyes focused on the text and had one of her fingers sliding from word to word.

"Do you understan-?" She stopped mid sentence as she looked up and saw Frei had already casted the fire. A tiny flame, the size of a nut, appeared right in front of Frei's palm, though it wasn't bright, it was warm. She poked through it and funnily enough, it was quite comfortable. It felt like a nice warm bath.

Unlike the water bubble, this time the fire stayed for far longer. It stayed floating in the air like it was burning on a candle. Frei removed his hands and the fire just stayed there, Frei looked at the fire he casted and he got close to it. The warmth of the fire became more obvious as he got closer and eventually the fire was right between his two eyes, warming him with its heat.

"W-Woa-" The fire extinguished right in front of his eyes from his gasping.

"Want to try again?" she said with a subtle smile.

"You try first, "Gloria "."

"No, it's okay I am more towards the water element. My affinity for the others are… pretty weak.".

"What?"

"Water and Fire are two of the four elements alongside wind and earth." she said as she closed the book. "And I can only use Water and earth, well the others I tried before, it's just I couldn't get the hang of it. Also fire… brings bad memories i would rather keep quiet about, maybe i will tell you next time." She paused for a moment thinking "Thoughhhh i can show u some little earth magic? Wanna see?"

Frei nodded and she placed her hand gently on the ground, and chanted something. "otmehr areth lebss em thiw ruoy sgthrent"

It wasn't something said in the language Frei was used to hearing and the pronunciation was wobbly and echoic despite being out in the open, like there's a second layer or a second "Gloria" speaking at the same time.

The air became slightly distorted and tiny pebbles began to shake due to the force of mana. Tiny waves began forming around her. Then the ground around Frei started vibrating violently.

The grass grew and the soil in the dirt cracked and a brown rock beneath it emerged from the ground. Then the shaking stopped.

A big brown rock emerged between her and Frei, distancing them, a little from one another.

Frei, temporarily blinded by the sand that emerged alongside the rock, could hear heavy breathing from "Gloria". He quickly recovered his sight and checked on her. She was sweating profusely but she had a grin on her face.

"Cool right?"

"YEAH IT IS!" said Frei, unable to control his excitement and amazement. "How'd you do it?"

"Y-you do the thing, the c-chant and put all your focus o-on it." She stumbles on her words due to shortage of breath. "Anway, just think of t-tiling the ground, ripping the ground app-art"

"Hooo- i'm tired." She chuckled out loud, with a big long grin.

Frei looked at her laying on the ground beside the rock and noticed her expression. Which is completely different from the one he's seen before. He calmed down from his excitement, and decided to let her rest.

"Stupid idiot." murmured Frei whilst looking at her, knowing that she used all her energy just to show off. He sat on the rock and then stared into the dark sky with her lying right beside him.

"I wonder… What the outside world looks like. Who I really am and… how is my family." Frei finds himself muttering these words. Then all of a sudden a feeling materialized in his heart, the feeling of nostalgia and a hint of sadness. The yearning for home.

"You will find out soon enough, if you keep on persisting. Just like what you did with your water bubble." "Gloria" said, raising her arms up towards the lanterns. "It's just like this lantern, or rather the fire inside of it. The lantern is simply there to keep the fire from being blown away, like a protector, while the fire is the main treat! The fire is the only thing that keeps lanterns from getting sold and bought. It's just like that Frei. You are the lantern, while inside you, is the fire. You need to keep on persisting to keep the you inside from blowing away."

"What are you talking about?"

"Nevermind~ just a thought. That suddenly lingers in my mind. That's all." She said cheerfully. "You know Frei, this is the first time in a long time since i had this much fun. I tried to be serious all the time because of my work, to be treated with respect. Or at least try to gain it." she exclaimed in a serious tone. "It feels like it's been ages since I have a person who is like a friend to me, neither boss nor workers."

"O-oh t-thank you." Frei said flattered by her compliments."

"The outside world is a wondrous place, filled with good and bad people, politics and greed for power. And to be quite frank it's all really complicated. But at least, its fair, just two sides of the same coin." She said while staring into Frei's eyes. "The world is very big, even if I have 100 more years to live. I would still not have seen all of it. But that's why Frei. Leave. Leave this place. Find freedom. Seek freedom, you need to see them all."

When "Gloria" said those words, Frei remembered Johnny's words about escaping and leaving this forbidden place. "B-but how? I don't know anything else. Even if I go out there. Who would be waiting for me?"

"There's always bound to be someone who's waiting for someone. Sometimes they don't come, And sometimes they do. Whether you're the one coming or waiting. You need to be the one taking the initiative. Meaning… just do it. Don't hesitate." She said in a gentle tone, as she got up from the ground, standing. Her stance makes it look like she is towering over Frei. "W-Well, maybe I can wait for you outside, when you do get out." Affirming Frei the decision of escaping.
