Is it wrong to take a break in Danmachi? (Rework)

Alvar, after saving his world from the chaos that engulfed it, made a kingdom for all the different races left in the world to rest in peace and harmony. But after a few generations, he started to feel empty and bored. Deciding that his time as the king has come to an end. He decided to leave his world full of good and bad memories and live a new life in a different world. =============================================== A/N This is a rework of the previous ff of the same name, I wanted to try again and change a few things and see if it might be better than the previous one. The MC is op, so this book would be more on the slice-of-life side of things, and I'll be focusing more on the research side of things and trying to uncover things etc. English isn't my first language so do correct some of the mistakes I make!

New World

A tiny crack materialized in the air, growing larger by the moment. The crack branched out, stretching out wider and wider until it suddenly stopped growing. It slowly started turning a vibrant shade of purple, with bolts of purplish lightning being shot out into the surroundings, scaring off any wildlife in the vicinity.

The purple lightning finally stopped when Alvar walked out of the rift. Upon entering this unfamiliar world and taking in his surroundings, the world began to spin around him. Feeling extremely disoriented and with a splitting headache, he stumbled his way toward a tree and leaned against it for support.

Alvar took a deep breath and closed his eyes to regain his composure and calm his mind. As the dizziness subsided, he slowly slid down the tree trunk and rested his back against the rough bark.

In a few moments in time, while resting against the tree. Alvar felt the headache slowly subside. He slowly opened his eyes to get a better look at his surroundings.

He saw tall trees with lots of green leaves and many different plants, including some he didn't recognize. The small purple glow of the rift gave the area a magnificent, otherworldly feel... or it would have if it weren't for the electrified trees and scorched grass caused by lightning strikes.

As he gazed at the shrinking rift, he noticed it transforming into a small, silver orb. Alvar rose to his feet and approached the glowing sphere, reaching out to pluck it from the air.

He looked at the orb and waited, with each passing minute the light in his eyes slowly started to fade. Almost like a flame getting snuffed out. Alvar let out a sigh as he sat back down.

"Seems it didn't fully work..." Alvar looked around himself again and let out a soft but sad smile.

"At least I can finally start a new life." His once sad smile turned into a genuinely happy smile as he started imagining all the new mysteries he could uncover.

Alvar stored the silver orb and closed his eyes again. Using his years of experience with mana sensing, he tried to 'connect' with this world's new form of mana.

'It feels... odd' Alvar thought to himself.

'Almost like it's trying to reject me... No, it's not me that it is rejecting, but my mana.' Alvar sat down and crossed his legs. Controlling his breathing and clearing his mind to only focus on this world's mana.

By letting out some of his mana, he allowed the new energy in his body to examine it more closely and begin unraveling it.

'From what I can tell, this world's mana resides in one's mind. How interesting...' Alvar thought briefly until he felt something shocking.

'Hints of spirits... and divinity mixed into it... The divinity seems to be more new, while the spirits' link seems to be slowly fading.' Alvar stopped his examination and stood up.

'Can't stay here and continue, sadly. It's better to find some civilization first.'

Small blue lights started radiating off of Alvar and gathered on the floor at ten different spots. The lights slowly took their form until the blue color faded, leaving behind a group of normal birds.

These birds instantly took flight in different directions to find civilization.

All this happened in nearly an instant.

While waiting for his summons to notify him of their finding, he took out two different types of books.

The first book had a black cover with red patterns decorating the entire book, while the front had a red symbol on it. The book looked demonic.

The second book also had a blackish cover but with green patterns decorating it and a green beetle on the front of the book, giving off the exact opposite feeling as of the first book.

(Image if I remember)

Alvar opened the first book while the second one was floating by his side. He was flipping through the book, page after page until he reached a new clean page. He took out a fancy golden fountain pen and all he wrote was an l and closed the book. Letting it disappear into his storage magic.

He picked up the second book opened it up to an empty page and started writing about the new world he is in. This book is called Noesis, a book he uses to write all his theories, ideas, knowledge, etc.

He started writing something down in a strange language.

'I wonder why there are hints of divinity inside this world's mana.' Alvar thought.

'I need more information about this place. From what I can tell so far, is that gods exist in this world too.' A strange glint passed through his eyes.

'Things might get-' His thoughts were interrupted by one of his summons.

One of his summons found a village close by, so he closed his book and started walking deeper into the forest.

As he walked towards the location of the forest, a new yellow and blue light started gathering above him in a snake-like form.

The bottom jaw, stomach, eyes, and end fishlike tail of the creature are blue while the top skull and back are yellow. The creature looks almost like an eastern dragon without any limbs while giving off a beautiful and majestic glow.

This creature is called a stardust dragon, with the name... Stardust... don't question it.

"I was wondering when you'll decide to show yourself, Stardust." Alvar chuckled at the dragon, who looked away with a... pout?

"You're still annoyed? It's not my fault I was so busy at the kingdom." Alvar laughed at the dragon's behavior.

Stardust simply grumbled as it floated and wrapped itself around Alvar's neck like a scarf.

'... Sometimes I question my past encounters with dragons... It's honestly a shock when you realize how lazy they can be.'

Stardust woke up with a soft grumble as it glanced at the bushes.

"Quite the stupid bunch, don't you agree?" Alvar asked the dragon as a group of twenty-plus goblins charged out of the bushes to attack Alvar.

"They don't seem to be as smart as the ones in our world... Glad since they're a big pain in the ass." He was about to use his magic when Stardust unwrapped himself from Alvar's neck.

"They're all yours, Stardust. Just keep some of their bodies intact. They seem to be different from the ones in our world, after all." He jumped out of the way of the incoming attacks as Stardust let out a mighty roar, scaring the goblins.

"Don't get too excited. They aren't strong at all." Alvar chuckled while he watched in the background.

Stardust ignored his comment and blasted the goblins with a stardust breath. Alvar already knew what the dragon wanted to do, and used his magic to protect the forest from being destroyed and to stop Stardust from completely disintegrating two of the goblins.

"You need to learn how to control your breath..." Alvar sighed as he shot the last two goblins with a magic missile.

Stardust just groaned and looked away while Alvar laughed at the 'young' embarrassed dragon.

Alvar placed the two corpses next to each other and started scanning them with his mana. Everything seemed normal, the monster had a normal body, blood, and organs. But in the middle of the goblins' chest was a small bundle of clumped-up foreign mana.

Alvar took out a knife cut open one of the goblin's chests and took out a small thumb-sized or smaller purple crystal.

"So they live off of these crystals..." he said as he glanced at the corpse he took it out of.

"Even in a new world, I can't seem to like goblins... The sham of a tinkerer annoys me to no end." He was still pissed off at the old goblin for 'accidentally' giving him back broken weapons on numerous occasions.

"Don't you agree? Star....dust...." Alvar watched as the dragon ate the two corpses while he was thinking.

"... I needed those..."

The dragon looked at Alvar with confusion.

"No, I wasn't done doing my research." Alvar facepalmed.

It nodded in understanding.

"Nor did I want to eat them..." He deadpanned.

It took back its understanding.

"..." Alvar just shook his head and inspected the crystal when a sudden thought came up.

"... You are made up of literal stardust, so why DID you eat them?" Stardust looked away and pretended that it didn't hear Alvar.

"..." Alvar kept staring at the dragon until it let out a soft groan.

"... That's fair I guess..." He sighed and walked away from the now-eaten goblin corpses... and a small black crater caused by Stardust. Luckily most of the damage was avoided with Alvar's help.

Stardust just flew to Alvar and wrapped around his neck again for a 'nap' while Alvar walked along towards the village's destination. Alvar also continued to test his mana to see if there would be any problems with casting his magic in the new world and so far there are no such problems.

'It seems that I can still regenerate my mana like normal. Although it's mostly my accessories and armour doing all the work.' He thought while he made small translucent strings of mana with his finger.

'It shouldn't be a problem in the future.'

He and the sleeping dragon continued on their travel and finally found the village they sought. Alvar desummoned the birds while he looked at the small village in front of him.

Despite being located in the middle of nowhere, the village appears to be well-kept and tidy, with neatly placed fences surrounding the crops and animals. Several wells can be seen dotted around the area, serving as a source of water for the inhabitants. The villagers themselves are friendly and energetic, with a lively demeanor that adds to the charm of the place.

'It's strange... having a village so well maintained while there are monsters roaming about. Not just that but they all seem so lively and calm...' Alvar wondered as he inspected the place from far away.

'Either a retired adventurer lives here or... It's merely an act to fool any unsuspecting victims.' A glint flashed through his eyes but quickly disappeared.

'This isn't my world... so I can't really apply its logic here.' He shook his head.

"Stardust, can you change yourself into a bracelet? Bringing a dragon into a village might cause a ruckus." The dragon in question let out a snort in annoyance as its luster slowly faded and its form shifted into a beautiful silver scarf.

"Should yellow and blue make silver?" Alvar questioned only to receive a growl from the scarf instead.

"Makes sense." He nodded as he took out a sword from his storage.

The sword's blade bears a deep crimson hue, gradually fading to a lustrous silver at the edges of its jagged form. Its hilt is adorned with a small red gem that emits a faint, yet alluring reddish glow. The grip of the sword is a menacing abyssal black, punctuated with spikes that only add to its intimidating demeanor. The blade sparkles with a metallic sheen, capturing and reflecting light in a way that lets some feel the serenity of a moonlit sky while others the feeling of an endless slaughter.

While with Alvar it just looks like an ordinary sword... at least it is compared to his other weapons.

'This should do.' Alvar thought as he placed the sword, Devil's Sunrise, on his waist and walked towards the village.

As he walked inside the village he was also listening in on every conversation in the surroundings.

"Kotoshi wa sakumotsu ga yoku sodatte iru node, yokatta desu ne. Anata mo sou omoimasen ka?"

'So this is this world's language.' Alvar smiled as he focused on their body language and words.

"Mochiron desu! Nani ka tabenakereba narimasen kara ne!"

"Sore 'thanks to' Andoryuu 'after all'. Kare ga mura kara 'monsters' ya sanzoku wo toozakete kureteimasu kara."

"'Honestly', watashi wa kare ga naze Orario wo 'left' no ka yoku wakarimasen. Kare wa level 3 no 'adventurer' darou ni!"

" 'I wish I knew too.' "

Alvar smiled as he slowly started to understand the new language as it was similar to something he heard in the past.

'So there's indeed an adventurer in this village named 'Andoryuu' or Andrew. There also seems to be levels in this world.' Alvar's curiosity is slowly starting to hit the boiling point. The only thing stopping him now is himself.

Taking a deep breath, he composed himself and approached one of the villagers.

"Sorry to bother you, but I heard there was an adventurer in this village and wondered where he is?" Alvar asked.

"Oh? He should be living over there." The villager pointed to one of the houses.

"You are a smart young lad I must say. In this day and age, you don't really see many people asking for pointers from others." He nodded approvingly.

After thanking the villager, Alvar made his way towards the modest house and gently knocked on the door. He waited patiently as he heard footsteps on the other side getting closer.

The door opened and Alvar saw a man in his mid-30s standing in front of him.

The villager scanned Alvar from head to toe, his gaze pausing briefly on Alvar's sword before returning to his face.

"I take it that you're an adventurer... Quite the sword you have there, kid."

Alvar nodded with a wry smile. He's not used to getting called 'kid'.

'So this is Andrew, weaker than I thought.' He inwardly thought.

"Well... truth be told, I am here to ask you for any helpful information that you might have. I don't really know... well... anything." Alvar softly chuckled while scratching the back of his neck.

Acting embarrassed and innocent is one of the best ways to get people to lower their guard after all.

"Oh? What do you mean by that?" Andrew asked confused.

"Can we talk inside? I don't really want to explain my reasons outside." Andrew nodded understandingly and led Alvar inside his house. They sat at a table and each of them took a seat.

"Well, to put it simply, I was very sheltered when I was a child. My parents and I lived pretty far away from any civilizations. Although, it was lonely with no one my age to talk to or play with, it was quiet and calm." Alvar let out a small, sad smile.

"I really enjoyed my time with them, although I didn't really much about my parents except that they were adventurers." Alvar's expression slightly shifted to one of anger which Andrew picked up on.

"One night I woke up from my sleep and heard something outside my room. So I went and checked... I saw them laying there... on the floor." Alvar tightly clenched his fists in 'sadness' and 'anger'.

Before Alvar could continue, he got interrupted by Andrew.

"... I understand, there is no need for you to continue. So you became an adventurer for revenge?" Andrew asked with pity in his eyes.

"... I wish to become stronger first, but in order to do so I would need to get information." Alvar nodded.

Andrew nodded and stood up. He walked towards a bookshelf and took three books.

"These three books should help you learn the history of the world. One is about some bits and pieces of the past while the other two are related to Orario and the guild. You can keep them since they aren't really that valuable. " He said as he handed the books to Alvar.

"And this is a rough map of where we are and the closest city from here which is Orario, also known as Labyrinth City Orario. This city should be your destination if you want to get stronger."
