Chapter 4 : Omni-Man’s Trial

Thanks to Mark's past life, he was like a natural born ace in the skies so flying was much easier for him to grasp than the original Mark. He simply needed a few hours of maneuvering around the city for practice to build the muscle memory required to make it a second nature. Mark still spent the entire afternoon and evening flying around the city to memorize the city's terrain, not once touching the ground.

Mark discovered that as long as he did not go too fast he would not get tired from flying as it was like flexing his muscles the harder and longer he did it, the more sore it will get. By the time the sky had turned dark Mark flew back home surprising both his parents by copying Omni-Man's sudden backyard entrance. Originally these two were ready to scold Mark for coming home so late but then immediately realized that Mark had a reasonable excuse in experimenting with his powers.

Mark let out an exaggerated yawn and told his parents that he was really tired today and wanted to go to bed also to leave his dinner in the fridge. His parents naturally wanted to talk about his new powers but Mark faked his exhaustion to avoid them and directly went to bed forcing himself to sleep while knowing he was still being watched by this world's shady government.

Despite this world deviating from the comics he still wanted to force the flow of the story to something he was familiar with at least until he could better prepare for some of the bigger threats like the Army of Evil Mark's, various Viltrumite's, reality warping conquerors and Angstrom Levy. That last fellow was particularly troublesome to deal with, even more than president Robot…

Mark drifted off to sleep and when he woke up he felt blessed to know that at least this part was somewhat familiar to the comics. When he woke up his father Omni-Man was standing by watching him, if he wasn't already desensitized from being spied on Mark would have thought Omni-Man was acting kinda sus.

Now that Mark got his powers Omni-Man would not only begin their training but continue with his mission of preparing the Earth for the Viltrumite Empire

Omni-Man : "Put some clothes and get ready to fly my boy".

Stretching Mark stood up putting his clothes on and spoke casually.

Mark : "I thought you'd never ask".

Omni-Man : "You're eager I'll give you that much now, lets go".

Gesturing his hand to the open window he spoke in a somewhat mocking smile.

Mark : "After you".

The father and son duo flew off into the middle of nowhere Australia, the reason for this was because Omni-Man had noticed how well Mark was already able to fly and wanted to see just how well he was able to learn flying on his own.

Due to Mark spending a majority of his life as an ordinary human Omni-Man was naturally worried that Mark would be somewhat lacking compared to a full blooded Viltrumite, but to his surprise it would appear Mark was no less capable at flying then he was at his age.

From what Omni-man could observe Mark's top speed was around Mach 4 which was impressive for a first time flyer but for his age it was not that good.

But flying and fighting are two different things Omni-Man thought to himself, if Mark was truly worthy of being compared to a born and raised Viltrumite then he would need to find out how capable Mark was before continuing on his mission.

While they flew Omni-Man would occasionally give pointers and adjusted Marks body and arm posture to help him fly more smoothly in his top speed.

Omni-Man : "You can wear yourself out flying tense like that, instead of constantly maintaining that speed, you should try to relax by pacing yourself. Think of it like paced breathing while running. You will not only last a lot longer while flying faster but be able to build more momentum to carry you forward."

From beginning to end Mark had meticulously paid attention to everything Omni-Man had said. He was not a normal person and was able to quickly digest the information and incorporate it into his own technique going beyond his top speed. Mark could not help but frown as he soon discovered that the moment he passed his top speed his maneuverability had gone out the window.

Mark : "Hey dad how do I make turns while going this fast?'

Omni-Man : "It's all about practice son, try slowing down while you turn before building up momentum again, do a barrel roll!".

Mark : "What why?"

Omni-Man : "It's an easy way to practice".

Mark let out a sigh his speed was already reaching a ridiculous Mach 7, this was the fastest he had ever flown in both lifetimes, maneuvering his body at this point was like trying to do a backflip in full plate armor. As soon as Mark tried he instantly crashed, BOOM!

The moment Mark's body slightly shifted direction was the moment he was eating dirt. Coughing up the dirt from his mouth and standing up from the man sized crater. Mark scratched his head wondering how long it would take him to fly like Omni-Man. It was like riding a skateboard you would naturally crash and fall off a lot before you got the hang of it.

Omni-Man : "Not bad but the landing could have been better, come on we're gonna try something else."

Mark : "Something else?"

Omni-Man : "Yeah, try to hit me."

Mark was surprised by this as this did not happen in the comics. Butt he was also pleased by his fathers request as this meant he would no longer have to take the initiative in asking him later.

Mark : " You sure about this?"

Omni-Man was strong but Mark was not entirely green after all he was a soldier so he naturally knew how to fight boxing and wrestling in particular were his strong suits.

Omni-Man : "Yeah"

Mark : "Okay then tough guy, here I come!".

Mark smiled confident in his fighting skills he jabbed at him a few times in rapid succession. Although Omni-Man was able to easily float around them he was surprised to see Mark use his whole body.

Omni-Man : "When did you learn how to fight?"

He asked curiously as Mark responded while continuing his jabs.

Mark : "I was going to beat you one of these days dad, you think I wouldn't train for it?"

As a Viltrumite Omni-Man felt relief and pride that his son was not just another docile and simple human teenager like so many of his peers were. Although he could not be certain that Mark was really ready yet to endure true Viltrumite training. At least he had a good competitive nature that was the groundwork for nurturing many Viltrumite warriors.

Omni-Man : "Try to hit me from up here and remember we don't need the ground to push off or pivot our feet as we can freely move ourselves through physical space and push off anything".

Omni-Man smiled at his son while he gently flew a bit higher just beyond arms reach of Mark, who then promptly followed up after him. Thanks to Marks flying training yesterday he was able to easily take his fathers words and put them into practice.

Mark : "Like this!"

Mark accelerated himself to do one hell of an uppercut and as expected Omni-Man dodged and spoke casually.

Omni-Man : "That was pretty good, but try it a little more like this."

Mark : "Hmm?"

FWOOOSH-Bam!

Mark : "Ow-www".

At that moment Mark's eyes widened and his pupils shrunk, he couldn't even see the punch coming from right in front of him as he held his chest coughing violently descending down a bit but never touching the ground.
