Lost child

"Hey are you awake?"

I asked but she doesn't respond. After I called her name she opens her eyes as she hears her name through my voice. She looks at me with wide eyes, as if she had just seen a ghost.

"You're here…"

She said and I can see her eyes tear up. She looks relived.

"You called, didn't you?"

I said but then I remember the reason why I actually came here.

"What happened?"

I wanted to know what happened. What they did to her and why she was so injured. If I can't know the truth I can't help her.

"Everything… I- I saw horrible things I saw how… I saw how she was killed and-"

She didn't continue her sentence, because she was interrupted by her own sobs. She was almost crying now. What the hell happened to this child?

"What did you see?"

I asked boldly. I know that maybe it's better not to ask, but I am way too curious to just let it rest like this now.

"How my mother was…- They killed… How my mother was killed."

She said and now she starts to cry louder.

As I heard those words from her mouth I start to get mad. I don't normally get mad easily, but she is just a child and she had to see such a horrible thing. I Wonder what she felt in that moment. Despair? I don't even want to imagine it. I clench my fist and lay a hand on her head to calm her down. I'm not good with children, but sometimes it can help to comfort a child like this.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

I said but she didn't stop crying. She was rather crying even louder now. Did I do it wrong?

Doctor Murine laid a hand on my shoulder to tell me it's enough, so I let go of Ria. Maybe she just needs to cry now.

Doctor Murine speaks up to me now.

"She doesn't have any relatives."

That's a bad thing. Really bad. Who could take her? We don't have something like orphanages. There is no where for her to go.

"Can't you just take her?"

I asked her, but she just looked surprised at me. She doesn't seem to really want a child, but it's worth a try.

"What would you do for me if I adopt her? You know that she would be safe with me. She would never have to suffer from experiments and she would have a nice childhood. What do you offer me? I definitely won't adopt her for free."

She smiled at me as she told me this. What can I even give her?

"Anything. One wish. One thing you want from me and I'll do it."

Now her smile got even bigger. She seems to like this conversation now. That's one of the reasons why I don't like her. Nothing comes for free, if you deal with her.

"Anything? Give me all the information you know about the case 0. Then it's a deal."

The case 0. How does she know about Shinda? Isn't the case 0 top secret- ohh right she is a friend from the professor.

"This case is extremely secret. And I'm sure that if he didn't tell you anything about it, then it must be super serious. But I'll do it. If this is what you want. I don't have a different choice, if I want to see this little girl safe, right?"

She grinsed at me.

"Okay that sounds perfect to me. Let's go in the other room to talk, right?"

I nod and follow her to a different room. As i closed the door behind me and glanced a last time at Ria, who was still sobbing in the silence.
