5 Chapter 5 Zombie 2

The zombie, now close to them, was kicked to the ground, hitting its broken knee, rendering it unable to walk, only able to crawl.

The man then pinned the zombie down, placing it on the ground with its back facing upwards and its head turned toward the ground.

The man used his hands to grasp the zombie's neck while standing on its back. "There, kill it now," he directed, applying force.

The guy scanned the surroundings, finally spotting a somewhat large rock. He picked it up and smashed it towards the head of the zombie, completing the task.

*Shwaakk* Blood splattered, and brain matter scattered as the zombie stopped moving with just one decisive smash.

"Well, that was easy," the guy remarked in surprise, tossing aside the rock now stained with black blood, resembling an oil spill.

The man swiftly withdrew his hands from the zombie's neck, brushing off the blood in his hands onto his shirt to get rid of the gruesome residue.

"We all must better hide and find a place to live" the man said knowing that if there's a zombie then there's more hiding.

The guy, however, remained silent and stunned, standing rooted to the ground like a statue, his gaze fixed on an empty space.

"Hey, did you hear me?" the man exclaimed, raising his voice.

"Oh, what? Yes, yes. Let's go find a base for now," the guy, who had been lost in his thoughts for a moment, replied, snapping back to reality.

The man simply nodded and melted back into the crowd of people. Claire, witnessing the resolution, felt a sense of relief and realized her hand had been clutching the guy's sleeve. She quickly pulled her hand away.

Nolan, sensing the tug had disappeared, turned around and saw the girl once more, looking at him with a cold gaze and a disdainful snort, as if she were a spoiled child.

Nolan, increasingly bewildered, couldn't help but think inwardly, "This girl must be really suffering from a mental illness," as he directed his gaze to observed the lifeless zombie.

Noticing a blue spherical object on the back of the zombie, he felt a surge of curiosity about its where it suddenly popped, but decided to dismiss it, shaking his head and choosing not to dwell on it.

When the guy and the man returned to the crowd, a person asked in a flustered tone, "Mr., is that zombie dead?"

The man scrutinized the person who questioned him and replied, "Yes, its head was already smashed into meat paste. It's impossible for it to be alive in its current state."

"Thank God, Mr. That both of you are here we are really lucky to have both brave soldiers like the two of you," a person expressed among the crowd.

"Yeah, if it weren't for you killing it, we would have died, or in the worst case will be turned to a zombie as well" added a middle-aged lady with curly hair.

The guy who killed the zombie couldn't help but feel happy and proud from their praise.

The lady sighed in relief, and another person in the crowd asked, "Mr., what do we do now? What if there are more zombies hiding in these forests?"

"Yeah, Mr., what if there are more out there? Are we really going to die here?" another one added, expressing concern and fear.

"Are we already dead? Is this already hell? No, it can't be. I haven't fulfilled my duty as a father towards my sister yet. I can't be dead, right?" a guy with a nerdy and cowardly look stated in panic.

The man was left speechless by what he heard. Others who overheard this were also silent, and one of them couldn't help but exclaim, "Oh sweet home Alabama," before falling to the ground.

The man shook his head, refocusing on the current situation. "As we can already see, I think we're in a place where we have no idea what it's called. We should find a shelter, a house as our temporary stay, to the avoid those zombies, and find a food source to survive," he suggested, laying out a plan for the uncertain circumstances.

The others nodded in agreement. Nolan, having heard the suggestions, refrained from any objections, recognizing the validity of the proposed plan.

"But first, let's pass the night for today. It's dangerous to go out now that it's dark. Let's sleep inside the train; there's no way the zombies can get inside and find us," the man suggested, prioritizing safety for the night..

The others found the suggestion reasonable, considering their unfamiliarity with the surrounding area, afraid that there is one or more Zombies inside the forest.

Following the agreement, they climbed back into the train, entering through a broken window to find shelter and pass the night together.

Nolan ascended and as he prepared to enter, a voice suddenly reached his ear.

"Could you lend me a hand? I'm struggling to climb; it's quite tall," Claire requested, her cheeks tinted with a blush.

Nolan was left speechless, but his commitment to justice wouldn't allow a girl to suffer due to his negligence.

So he extended his hands and the two held her hands, and Claire could not help but lower her head cause her face is red.

Nolan exerted force to pull the girl upward, successfully placing Claire on top of the train. She stood, patted her uniform to remove the dust, and glanced at John.

"Thank you, hmphh," Claire snorted, then proceeded to enter through the window, leaving Nolan behind.

"This... Damn, it's not an illness anymore; it's a mental problem. Well, at least she said thank you," Nolan muttered, shaking his head as he jumped inside through the window.

Inside, Nolan observed the others using their bags to rest against the broken windows that's now on the ground, as the train was now flipped right-side down.

[Author's Note: I'm not sure what it's called, but it's similar to upside down, so I'll refer to it as right-side down.]

He can see that a lot of them where using their bags, to served as a pillow while some where using their suitcase. Because some of them work in an office while some don't have one.

Nolan observed that the girl beside him had already assumed a sleeping posture and was sound asleep.

"This must have take a toll on her, huh?" Nolan exclaimed inwardly.

He then used his bag as a pillow to spend the night, positioning himself a bit away from the girl to avoid any trouble.

As midnight arrived, Nolan suddenly noticed footsteps above the train.

"What's that?" Nolan wondered inwardly as he heard a relatively light footstep above him. Suddenly, a distinct sound reached his ears, indicating that someone had jumped down from the train to the ground.

Filled with curiosity, Nolan remarked, "There's no way a zombie knows how to climb this high. Let's try and take a look." He stood up silently, carefully ascending upwards the window to get a better view.

As Nolan cautiously looked out the window, his head just barely visible, he discerned the familiar figure – the one who had earlier killed the zombie with a rock.

The moon's radiant light cast a gentle glow, revealing the scene below. The person, now illuminated, scanned the surroundings with a watchful gaze, turning his head from left to right, taking in every detail.

"Why is he out in the middle of the night?" Nolan wondered aloud, clearly curious about why the guy who killed the zombie was confidently navigating the darkness without a hint of fear.
