Chapter 7 Boarding

When Lin Yi arrived at the street, Chen Wu and Ma Liu were no longer there. Following the instructions whispered in her ear, she used facial recognition to buy a drink from the vending machine. As the machine dispensed the drink, a passerby approached from behind.

Seeing the man wearing a duckbill cap with the brim low over his face, Lin Yi turned around while twisting open the bottle. Her elbow accidentally bumped into the man behind her, causing the drink to spill onto him and interrupting his motion to raise his hand.

"Sorry," Lin Yi apologized, reaching out to help him wipe it off.

The high-sugar drink was sticky and sweet, and wiping it would only make the clothes look worse. Chen Wu quickly stopped Lin Yi's actions. She kept her head down but naturally raised her eyes to look at the face under the duckbill cap.

In a nearby aircraft, Feiying watched the monitor disapprovingly and questioned, "Lin Yi, what are you doing?" He had just instructed Lin Yi to stand by the vending machine and pretend to watch the advertisements after buying the drink. But the girl, seemingly obedient, did the opposite!

Pretending not to hear Feiying's words, Lin Yi glanced at Chen Wu and then withdrew her hand, saying, "Here, let's go."

This casual greeting made it seem like they were very familiar with each other.

Chen Wu's instinctive curse was stuck in his throat, and he couldn't press the button on his electric device. The nearby robot remained calm, but he felt that the newly installed suppression system was probably useless.

Damn it, the plot is completely off-script. Did the director change the script at the last minute?

Feiying stared at the monitor, suppressing his anger, and transmitted to Chen Wu, "Forty seconds left. The patrol robot is about to turn onto this street. Force her onto the vehicle!"

Timing it perfectly, Ma Liu stopped the low-altitude high-speed motorcycle in front of them. The door opened, and Ma Liu stuck half of his head out, observing Lin Yi and Chen Wu as if they were just catching up by the vending machine. The nearby robot was still functioning properly, neither malfunctioning nor making any other moves. He was puzzled by the situation.

However, Lin Yi turned around and got into the vehicle directly.

Chen Wu: "..."

Feiying: "..."

"Boss?" Ma Liu looked dumbfounded at Lin Yi, who got into the vehicle as if they had planned to go on a trip together. He couldn't understand why this didn't seem like a kidnapping. Moreover, why did the robot also get into the vehicle? Ma Liu asked in confusion, "Is this... robot also being kidnapped?"

Intelligent robots are equipped with trackers, and their core models are recorded. In the city, people in the underworld generally don't kidnap ordinary civilian robots because their second-hand prices are not high, refurbishing and transporting them incur costs, and they can easily be traced back to a bunch of people by the police.

So, two nights ago, if Yuan was controlled by the suppression system, they planned to only take Lin Yi.

After sitting down in the car, Lin Yi didn't speak but showed no restraint either. She first glanced around at the design of the car before fixing her gaze on the two of them, with a hint of scrutiny in her eyes, as if she were the owner of the car.

"I didn't expect to meet again so soon," Lin Yi said, placing the drink she held aside and sizing up Chen Wu. "Has your employer contacted you these past few days?"

Chen Wu: "..."

The car was a bit small, and Lin Yi's long legs seemed a bit out of place. She shifted inside, crossed one leg over the other, leaned back against the seat, and simply placed her hands in front of her, "It seems he hasn't contacted you. Well, you can contact him now."

Chen Wu: "..."

Feiying: "..."

This was his line!

Ma Liu drove while glancing at the rearview mirror. Even though he was quite laid-back, at this moment, he couldn't help but feel that the "commodity" they had abducted didn't seem like a typical "commodity." Coupled with what happened the other night, he couldn't resist asking, "Why aren't you scared at all?"

Lin Yi seemed to find something amusing as she suddenly smiled, though it wasn't exactly a smile; her facial muscles just twitched slightly, forming a faint smirk.

Fear mostly stems from the unknown and the disparity in strength, but in her eyes, their strength was almost transparent. Moreover, someone who has faced lions would never fear household dogs.

Watching her expression, Chen Wu felt like she was looking down on them, with a sense of superiority emanating from her gaze. Damn it, how did a minor like her, who's also a genetic patient, develop such an insolent attitude? Feeling mocked, Chen Wu's self-esteem took a hit, and he felt irritated, but he didn't dare to lash out at Lin Yi and could only yell at Ma Liu, "Shut up and focus on driving!"

Ma Liu, puzzled, asked, "Bro, what's wrong with you?"

Feeling frustrated, Chen Wu, who was twice Lin Yi's age, couldn't help but feel compelled to bend down every time he saw her. It took all his strength to refrain from bowing down. Who's kidnapping whom here!

A few days ago, he felt somewhat guilty about kidnapping a girl who had lost her parents and was also a genetic patient like him. He spent the whole night finding reasons to convince himself to ignore his compassion and accept this job from the Gray Network.

Now... he felt like he was cursed. Chen Wu despised himself deeply, unable to make sense of the mess he got himself into. He had many thoughts but didn't know what expression to put on his face in the cramped car. With the limited space, he didn't know where to place his eyes. He could only keep a stern face and say to Ma Liu, "Keep the car steady and don't attract the attention of patrol officers."

Ma Liu, with a thicker skull, couldn't contain his excitement after a while and said, "Bro, this car is really awesome! If we could get a car like this in the future, I'll switch to being a taxi driver. Those driverless taxis now look so stupid. I'm sure I can outcompete them with my personal service. Don't you think so, bro?"

Though Ma Liu wasn't a genetic patient, he was naturally dim-witted and had lived in the cracks of this city since birth. Despite humanity's technological advancements, with dreams of boarding starships and piloting mechs to explore the universe, for Ma Liu, his greatest wish was probably to own a low-altitude high-speed motorcycle and lead a peaceful life as a taxi driver in this city.

Chen Wu's brain was perfectly normal, so at this moment, his head was starting to ache, and he really didn't want to talk to Ma Liu.

However, Ma Liu remained oblivious and happily exclaimed, "Bro, where are we going?"

Feiying's voice came in, "First, circle around the No. 1 orbit, and Chen Wu, contact the employer."

Chen Wu breathed a sigh of relief, then opened his personal terminal and accessed the Gray Network.

...

Feiying's surveillance monitor was connected to Cao Dong's office's screen, transmitting their every word and action.

Cao Dong watched as Lin Yi ignored Feiying's words, got into the car of the two kidnappers without any fear, and showed no fear towards them. He turned his chair around, a smirk forming on his lips. "That girl has some audacity."

Lao Du: "..."

Is he really praising her like that!

Cao Dong continued, "She reminds me of myself back in the day. Do I know her mother? Could it be that she's my offspring too?"

Lao Du: "..."

Give me a break!
