Andrea awoke to the harsh glare of her ceiling light. She blinked for a moment, confused why it was already on until she eventually recalled the power outage. Of course, she'd never flipped the lightswitch off. At whatever point the power came back, the light automatically illuminated again. She rolled over and reached for her phone. It had felt odd plugging in into a dead outlet, but power must have returned long enough ago for it to recover some charge.

She checked the time. It was earlier than usual, but that was just what she'd wanted. She crept to the bathroom door and pressed her ear against it. She was hoping to beat Kyle there this morning. If the bathroom was already occupied, then she would just go back to bed.
