32 I Will Not Give Up

"I did.. What?" Cassey was taken aback by the accusation when Wendy snickered.

"Why? Does it hurt so much to face reality? I have always thought.." the young girl shook her head, "no! Forget it when you did not care about the man who loved you and cherished you, why would you care about a girl who meant nothing to you.

All the time when you treated me well and told me i am like your sister. I was the fool to believe on it. When you hit the guard suddenly and ran away.. Everyone said that you are a criminal but I refuse to believe it.

Till last, me and the lord tried to defend you. But you did not come and in the end, we had to face the harsh reality! And now, you are here when he is finally going to marry and start a new life?

Do you think I would believe that it was just a coincidence? You can not see that man happy, right? You just want to ruin him again and again! Then you can be happy, because you have succeeded." her chest heaved up and down as she spoke harshly.

She did not care about class anymore. If she was going to lose her job, then be it.

But the suffocation she had felt all these years, she could only get rid of it by shouting at this woman.

She still could not believe that Cassey had done it and now she was standing in front of them with such a vulnerable face.

"I hate it! I hate that after ruining everything, you still look that frail and weak while we look like abusers." Wendy cursed hard! She had always been an outspoken girl but right now, she was feeling appalled with herself for feeling weak again.

She wanted to comfort the woman who had sold all of them and the feeling was making her burn.

"Wendy! I know that you all have suffered a lot." Cassey sighed, tears started to spill her eyes again! Oh lord, could she do nothing but cry! How pathetic!

She felt miserable and angry at herself too.

"I can only say.. Take care of my daughter when i am gone. We both know that i can not hide for forever. When they take me away, please make sure that my daughter is not abused. Can you do that?" For everything else, Cassey knew that none of them had answers.

The reality Wendy was telling and the reality she had suffered that day did not match at all.

She remembered vividly that she was sitting in her room and sipping her tea when Julia entered her room and showed her the letter of Tyrone.

She has announced loudly that their master has finally found a suitable wife for himself and now they do not need to serve a commoner.

She had dragged her out with force. Cassey had shouted and asked for help but the other maids only snickered at her. She had called for Wendy but Wendy did not come. She did not come till the end. Cassey had thought that the young girl must be pressured since she could not go against their master. So she has given up.

"Master would never let that happen!" Wendy's voice broke Cassey's reverie. "He adores the child and we are not evil. We did not pass our hatred to a child." Wendy claimed as she shook her head and went to her room.

The loud sound of closing the door was a harsh reality that no one wanted her here. But she felt assured that at least Penny would be loved.

Cassey was not positive that she could bring the truth out since it was so twisted and she did not have proof. But she was not ready to give up.

Memory could fade but records can always prove the truth. The night was still dark.

Cassey walked stealthily in the dark. She was afraid that if she was caught, another crime would be added to the list. But she just could not give up.

She walked into the office of Ben with slow steps while turning her head left and right to make sure that she was not caught by the night guards.

She crouched in front of the left vase and rummaged her hands. A smile crept on her lips as she took out the key. He had not changed at all.

Opening the door, she entered in but did not turn on the lights, using a single candle, she rummaged through the drawers.

It only took her a few minutes to find out the files of the servants.

Ben keeps the accounting records for Tyrone. So he kept a file where the record of the staff was kept. It has the joining dates and reliving dates of each of them.

She kept flipping the pages of records made five to six years ago. But even after checking twice, she did not find the name Julia in it.

"Did they delete her data?" but it did not look like the maids were lying. As if Julia really did not exist for them.

"Or did the maid lie about her name?" it could be a possibility the maid was afraid that she would be caught some day, so she intentionally told her wrong name.

But if that was the case, how would she find her? Making portraits was expensive so they hardly have portraits in the records. Someone would confirm and guarantee about the face of the person when the job was offered.

"But what about other maids who were present there! They have witnessed it too. But in the story of Wendy, only guards had seen her!" wait!

If she could not prove her story right, she could prove their story wrong!

"The guards! Those who see me leaving." If Julia did not exist, then she could only depend on the guards. If they accept that they were lying, maybe.. Just maybe she could prove her innocence.
