22 Go Again Another Day

After about an hour more of driving, they finally arrived at Miguel's safe house. More like it was a cabin.

It was located in a very secluded area, there were no other houses around it. Gemma could hear morning birds as they chirped on trees as she came down from the car taking in the environment.

Judging from how long it took them to get here, it will take hours to get back to the road.

"If you are thinking of running, you might want to reconsider that. You would have to walk for miles before you can see anyone who would help you," Miguel said, giving her thoughts voice.

Gemma ignored his comment as she continued to look around. If it had been under a different circumstance, she would have loved to be here. She loved places like this, away from the hustle and bustle, and all the craziness of the city.

Contrary to what her family thinks, Gemma most times preferred solitude to noise. She only rebelled whenever her father and brothers refused her to go out because they made it compulsory that she remained indoors, and Gemma hates being told what to do.

"I need to get the keys."

Miguel went around to the back of the house leaving Gemma out there at the front. She thought of getting into the car and driving off. It will be difficult for Miguel to catch her if she took the car, no matter how fast he ran. She was a pretty good driver.

Without thinking too much about it, Gemma quickly got inside the car, and then she realized Miguel didn't leave the key in the ignition.

"Shit!" She bent down searching for the key, thinking probably it might have fallen on the floor.

"Looking for this?"

Gemma raised her head and saw Miguel standing by the driver's door waving the car keys.

"Yeah right," Gemma hissed under her breath.

"I see you are still trying to run off," Miguel said as she opened the door and got down from the car. Did she really think he would be stupid enough to leave the key on the ignition? And leave her with it?

"What were you expecting?" Gemma asked not in any way feeling remorseful that she got caught trying to escape.

"You should stop trying, for your own good," Miguel warned.

"To stop trying is to accept my fate. And I refuse to do that. I already told you, I will run away any chance I get to do so!" Gemma said with so much deviance she looked so adorable.

Miguel chuckled as he walked up to the front door of the cabin.

"Whatever, just don't try to run off on foot, you will be eaten up by wild animals before you get any help."

"Like you care if I get eaten or not," Gemma mumbled as she stood with her arms folded and she watched Miguel open the door.

Miguel stepped inside the cabin and held the door open for her. Gemma walked inside the not-so-cosy cabin.

The inside was a little better than what she had imagined, compared to how it looked from the outside.

It was a small one-room cabin, with a fireplace that looked like it had not seen any fire in a long while.

On one wall was a small shelf with a few books. In the middle of the cabin, there was a bed, it was bare as there was no sheet covering the mattress.

Even if Gemma has seen and laid in better beds, this particular one called out to her to lay her tired body on it, after being on the road for so long.

Miguel shut the door and the room became dark. He reached for a switch on the wall close to the door and turned on the light, illuminating the cabin.

There were two doors at the end of the room, and Miguel disappeared into one of them.

"Please where is the bathroom?" Gemma asked, she was still pressed and needed to ease herself.

"The other door," Miguel shouted.

Gemma opened the door and was ushered into a plain bathroom, with a toilet bowl at the end and a shower in one corner.

When Gemma was done easing herself, she walked over to the bed and sat down, her right foot hurt quite badly. She elevated it on the bed, examining it.

She had a cut underneath her foot, the blood on it had already dried up. She must have gotten the injury while she was running away from Miguel on their way here.

Gemma sighed as she laid her back on the bed. She didn't succeed in escaping again, but that doesn't mean she is going to give up. She will keep trying until she succeeds in escaping Miguel and his sick father. But for now, she needed to rest her aching body.

"I go again tomorrow," she mumbled as she drifted off to sleep.

When Miguel came out of the kitchen, Gemma had already fallen asleep on the bed. He stood looking at her, how fragile and cute she seemed. How peaceful she seemed in her sleep, but she was nowhere near peaceful when she was awake. Those beautiful pink lips, shot daggers whenever she opened them, and the daggers were always directed at him.

Miguel walked over to the drawer that was connected to the bed frame he opened it and brought out a blanket. He used it to cover Gemma.

Even though the sun was already out, the temperature was still low, and Miguel suspected it was going to drop to an even much lower degree by nighttime. The heating system in the cabin was no longer functional.

It's been over a year since Miguel last came here. Left for him, he could find a way to manage until he leaves, but for Gemma's sake, he would have to find a way to fix the heating system.

Miguel went back to the kitchen and opened the small refrigerator as he scanned the few food choices that they had. The last time he had been here he made sure to stock up on food, like he always did from time to time, so that if he needed to use the cabin he would have something to feed on.

What he just basically bought was canned food as those were the only food items that could last long before they went bad. And some coffee too.

Miguel opened the tap in the sink and fetched some water to drink with a mug. He needed to come up with a plan. His father won't take this lying low, Miguel knows he would have his boys searching all over the place for him by now.

Now that Miguel has gone rogue, his father will not stop until he has killed him.

Miguel will have to contact Russo himself. He knows that without seeing his daughter Russo would not give his father half of the trade line as they had agreed.

Miguel smiled, he has their daughter and he was going to use it in getting the trade for himself. By the time he was done, his father won't know what had hit him.
