Gift from Mei

The Diary of Si Jian - Entry 1n

Dear Diary,

Today, I received the most extraordinary gift from my big sister, Mei. It's you, this beautiful diary with pages that hold the promise of preserving my thoughts, feelings, and adventures. Mei said that writing in a diary can be like having a conversation with a trusted friend. So here I am, with a heart full of excitement, ready to embark on this new journey with you.

I live in Jade Lantern Manor in Vermont,my house is cozy with my parents and, of course, Mei. Our ancestral house is in China and my grandparents live there but we moved here because my grandparents suggested this place for practising law…..yes my whole family consists of lawyers and judges. My grandfather was a judge in the Supreme Court of Vermont in his younger days and now he's a judge in the Supreme Court of China and my grandma was a lawyer in Vermont in her younger days and now she's retired. My dad is a well known and highly reputated lawyer and my mom is a judge here in Supreme Court. Grandma and grandpa suggested this place to settle in because this place was where they spent their younger days and they wanted me to study here so here I am, seeing a lineage of law even I want to become a judge. My grandparents and parents say we'll return to our ancestral house in China after i complete my studies and practice law here for three years.

Our home is nestled within a very lonely place where there's no people till ten kilometres and this is because I did not like hustling and bustling place so my parents gifted me this house when I was born, it's surrounded by the soothing silence of nature. We have a charming garden in the backyard, where the most exquisite roses bloom. Their fragrant petals, painted in shades of crimson, pink, and ivory, are a source of endless fascination for me.

Today marked a significant milestone in my life—I turned twelve years old. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. The highlight of the day was Mei's surprise gift—the very diary in which I now write. She told me that it's a tradition in our family for the older sibling to pass down a diary to the younger one on their twelfth birthday. Mei's eyes sparkled with warmth as she handed it to me, and I could sense the importance of this gesture.

This morning, Mom and I embarked on a delightful baking adventure. The kitchen was a whirlwind of flour, sugar, and the mouthwatering aroma of vanilla. With Mei's guidance, we created a cake that tasted like a slice of heaven. The moment when we finally took it out of the oven, its golden top glistening with a dusting of powdered sugar, was pure magic.

Mei has always been my mentor and protector. She's more than a sister; she's my role model. She has this incredible way of making even the simplest tasks feel like grand adventures. Today, Mei decided it was time to teach me how to ride horse. I'll admit, I was nervous at first, but after all I was friends with our six horses,"Luna,Stardust, thunderbolt, dreamer, midnight, shadow" unsure of whether I could balance on my best friends all by myself. But Mei's unwavering belief in me filled me with courage.

We ventured out into the sun-dappled afternoon, in our own horse riding field the air filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers. Mei held onto the horse as I sat on, wobbling at first, but her presence reassured me. "You've got this, Si Jian," she encouraged. And with her guidance, I felt myself gaining confidence with each pedal.

As I rode down the quiet streets, the wind tousling my hair, I couldn't help but feel a sense of exhilaration. Mei's laughter, carried by the breeze, echoed in my ears. It was a sound that encapsulated pure joy—a memory I'll treasure forever.

In the evening, my best friend, Lily, came over to celebrate my birthday. She greeted me with a bright smile and a beautifully wrapped gift. We dashed into the garden, eager to explore and play. Our laughter filled the air as we raced each other to pick the most colorful and fragrant flowers.

I won, and Lily promised to bring me a special present tomorrow. I wonder what it could be! She's known for her creative surprises, and I can hardly contain my excitement.

As I sit here, Diary, reflecting on this wonderful day, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. Mei has taught me so much, not just about horse riding but about embracing life's adventures with an open heart. I'm eager to share my experiences with you, to capture each moment, and to grow as a writer, just as Mei has grown into the remarkable person she is today.

As I write these words, my heart swells with gratitude for the wonderful people in my life, especially my sister, Mei. She's more than just a sibling; she's my guiding star. Her wisdom, kindness, and boundless love have shaped me into the person I am today. I can only hope to be as remarkable as she is.

Our family's home is a sanctuary of love and warmth. My parents, who have been together for as long as I can remember, teach me the values of honesty, compassion, and respect every day. Their love story is a beautiful one, and it inspires me to believe in the power of love and family bonds.

The roses in our garden, Diary, are like silent witnesses to our family's history. They've bloomed in abundance for generations, each bloom a testament to the passage of time. I often find solace among the blossoms, reflecting on life's mysteries and the beauty that surrounds us. I hope to write about these moments here, so I can relive them whenever I wish.

Today, I start this diary with excitement and anticipation. I have no idea where this journey will take me, but I'm eager to find out. Thank you for being my confidant, my friend, and my keeper of memories. I can't wait to fill your pages with the stories of my life.

I'll end my first entry here, but I promise there will be more to come. Thank you for being my companion on this journey, dear Diary. Until tomorrow.

Love,

Si Jian
