Chapter 3

After having lunch with everyone Riveria whisked me away to get our study session underway. On the way to our mysterious destination, I decided to make conversation with the elegant green-haired high elf.

"So, where are we going, is the other student waiting there?" I asked mainly to fill in dead air, but it does help in gaining some extra information.

"We are going to the library, your fellow student should be going to us in a couple of hours." Riviera answered.

We were in silence for a bit, and then surprisingly Riveria asked me a question of her own.

"Why do you want to clear the dungeon?"

"To become strong" I answered instantaneously 

"Why do you want to become strong?" Riviera questioned

It should be simple, right? I was dealt a shit hand, but unexpectantly won it. My simple plan of clearing the dungeon for money → pay off loans → Live safely, is a good idea, but I don't think it can satisfy me knowing my potential. What is my real reason for doing this now, if not for the money?

"Because I'm fucking pissed."

"Mad at what exactly?" Riveria inquired

"The world, but mostly myself and how weak I was, I don't want to be that person anymore"

Riviera seemed to like my answers since she smirked and then, we continued our trip but in a more comfortable silence.

After a walk we arrived at our supposed destination, Riveria wordlessly entered revealing a… library. I don't know what I was expecting.

"Okay, let us begin." Riviera gestured to an empty table for me to sit down at.

"We will start off with the very basics. First off, Ignis Fatuus occurs when the user is unable to control their magic power, causing the magic to explode and damage the user, for now you should only practice magic under my supervision so I can help you stop or alleviate the damage of an Ignis Fatuus."

"Magic uses something known as Mind, if you use too much mind it can lead to a condition known as Mind Zero. This condition is rather simple but can be deadly in a battle, it causes the individual to faint."

"When it comes to how much magic a person can have it maxes out at 3 no matter what. That is about the basics of the basics." Riviera said finally ending or speech. She looked like she was about to continue, so I let the teacher teach, since I had no questions, it was pretty similar to what I had known previously about Danmachi.

"You said you wanted to be a Magic Swordsman, the most important skill for that is known as concurrent chanting, it allows you to chant while moving around, but this leads to the biggest question of today, what is the magic on your status?" Riviera asked me.

"Fire Magic" I answered firmly

"I must've been unclear in my questioning, I meat was what is the name of the spell on your status?" Riviera clarified

"Fire Magic"  I said, it was the answer to her question, is my status that weird, why didn't Loki say anything about it? Seeing my honesty and my twinge of nervousness Riveria cursed her god.

"Loki why can't you tell me ever make my job easy for once." she said while rubbing her fingers across the bridge of her nose.

This revelation left each other stunned, I thought for a while until I had an idea.

"I'll try to figure out how it works, I'll be in your care." I immediately did the first thing that came to mind and meditated like those cultivation manhua's. My goal is to try and find something like a mind source within me, something I can pull from to make magic.

My search was quick I sensed something inside me, it was this clear energy that sat inside of my solar plexus. I looked once more at Riveria.

"Here we go" I saw Riveria silently casting what I assumed to be a healing spell pre-emptively. I started my first attempt at magic, I was successful in dragging out this energy, which I assume is Mind, into my hands, the problem was that I could not form any fire magic with it though, I was so close yet so far away.

C'mon, make a damn fireball already!! I shouted in my mind, annoyed with how long it was taking, to my utter shock, the mind collected in my hand head my wishes and formed a fireball that headed for somebody I don't even know yet.

{Riveria's POV}

"Here we go" Cain said I started getting to work on a healing spell preparing for the worst, but to my surprise, it seemed like Cain had a good natural grasp on how to manipulate Mind. Not everything was going perfect though I noticed that he seemed to be trying to use magic, but was unable to. He continued his attempts for a while.

What am I to do now, I can't prepare for the exact moment Cain completes what he is trying to do, well I guess I just have to rely on myself. It is quite boring now, I wonder when Lefiya will get here. Seemingly summoned by my call, I heard the library door open seeing a fellow elf walk through.

"S-sorry to keep you waiting, Riveria" Lefiya said shyly.

"It's fine, I had another student to keep me company" I say looking at Cain, still deep into his attempt to use magic for the first time.

"You took in another student!" Lefiya said in shock, did she think she would be the only one forever? Lefiya's eyes drifted to the one close to Riveria, when she got a good look at him her expression soured.

"B-b-but Riveria, it's a human not to mention a male!" Lefiya said. Is my student really that prideful?

"Yes, yes, but this one is special, he is making Loki pull out every stop for his growth." I say.

"What is he even doing?" Lefiya asked shielding her chest with her arms crossed.

"He is trying to use magic for the first time, he's got the Mind manipulation part. All he needs is to give the Mind a reason, normally we would do that with chants, but it seems like the magic he was given was chantless so he is having difficulties." I explained to my student. Lefiya was stunned by what I said, she must be thinking something similar to what I was, but she also understood how hard it must be to create magic with a chant, so she resolved herself to ignore him.

She sat down next to me so I could give her guidance on what a mage should be doing in combat.

While we were going over specific combat situations I noticed Cain's eyebrow twitch for the first time since he last spoke, is something going to happen? I more closely observed Cain while Lefiya was pondering over the question I posed her. When suddenly a fireball appeared in his palm and rocketed in the direction of Lefiya.
