13 Chapter 13: Ashes and Oaths(II)

Later, as the first rays of dawn painted the sky,

Kol found himself drawn to the Mystic Falls bridge,

a bridge made of White Oak.

He really wasn't thinking about the curse of the magic at the time and the possible consequences of burning down the tree.

the remnant of Rudra's voice, a whisper in his mind, echoed the sentiment.

"The White Oak,"

it murmured,

"We need to destroy it but also should leave some that should be under our control;

we can make wards for it and hide.

As long as it stays on this plane, we can add our safeguards;

otherwise, we may die."

Kol knelt, tracing the weathered grooves with his fingers.

Images of Rudra's life, of the endless struggle against Klaus, of the sacrifices made, flooded his mind.

The weight of his death, and his own siblings not doing anything,

ignited his memories as he relived the pain of severance all over again.

But then, a different voice, a spark of defiance, ignited within him.

"WE WILL LIVE," it roared, Rudra's final message, a beacon in the darkness.

He would destroy the bridge.

With a flick of his wrist, a can of accelerant materialized in his hand. He poured it carefully, drenching the bridge sign and the bridge, leaving a part of the support in his hand enough of White Oak to kill his family.

"Let's burn this," he thought firmly.

He ignited the fuel, and flames erupted, licking at the wood in a furious embrace.

The bridge groaned, protesting the assault.

But Kol stood his ground, his eyes reflecting the fire's intensity.

He wouldn't let his family be hunted like prey again.

As the flames died down, Kol picked up the piece of oak, the remnants of the bridge.

The charred surface whispered of resilience, mirroring his determination to protect his family. Returning home, Kol concealed the salvaged White Oak on his person.

The weight of the wood, both physical and metaphorical, pressed against him.

It was a dangerous game he played, a gamble with the lives of those he loved.

The fragile unity in the Mikaelson family hung by a thread, and Kol's actions on the Mystic Falls bridge could either reinforce that bond or sever it further.

Rudra's words lingered in his mind, urging caution, but the fiery spirit within him pushed back against the shadows of doubt.

As Kol entered the Mikaelson manor, the air thickened with unspoken tension.

The library's atmosphere was thick with a solemn atmosphere.

Elijah's gaze met Kol's, an unspoken question lingering in the air.

Rebekah, too, eyed him with a mix of curiosity and wariness.

Niklaus, always perceptive, seemed to sense the weight Kol carried.

Kol broke the silence, his voice cutting through the palpable tension.

"We need to talk," he declared, his eyes meeting each sibling's gaze in turn.

Elijah, ever the diplomat, nodded solemnly.

Rebekah's impatience was palpable, but she held her tongue.

Klaus, with a glint in his eyes, gestured for Kol to continue.

"I've taken a step," Kol began,

choosing his words carefully.

"A step to ensure our survival"

Elijah's brow furrowed,

Rebekah's curiosity turned to concern,

and Klaus's expression remained unreadable.

Kol revealed the salvaged White Oak,

the burnt edges a testament to the bridge's demise.

The room fell silent as the gravity of his actions sunk in.

"We can't live in fear of this cursed wood any longer," Kol asserted,

his gaze challenging each sibling to defy him.

"I can ensure our safety, but it comes at a cost.

I will be making a ward which can only be opened by our blood that means the blood of us four and it should be freely given"

Elijah, ever the strategist, weighed the consequences.

Rebekah's concern softened into a reluctant acknowledgement of his intentions.

Klaus, surprisingly, wore a hint of approval.

Klaus sped away and returned with a metal box used to store long swords.

Elijah, his brow furrowed in suspicion, questioned, "Where did you get this, Kol?"

Kol, maintaining an air of nonchalance, explained, "As I returned with Caroline, I left her at her home.

I was roaming around the town, reminiscing about places I used to know.

I reached the bridge, and it was entirely made of white oak.

To say I was perplexed is an understatement.

I wanted to confirm first, but having a danger this close and not acting is not my style.

Hence, I burned the bridge along with the sign. Except for this."

Kol gestured to the salvaged piece in his hands.

"It can be used to make stakes and kill all our family.

I am taking precautions,

as I am sure this was nature's way of counterbalancing our curse.

You better find out how many know about this and if no one knows remove the information, Nik."

klaus mockingly tilts his head as if looking at an idiot then kol realized who he was talking the most paranoid bastard on earth

Kol blushes a little and the other understands it decreases the tension in the room

The Mikaelsons exchanged glances, absorbing the gravity of the situation.

Elijah's concern deepened,

Rebekah's eyes narrowed,

and Klaus, though seemingly unperturbed, betrayed by a flicker of curiosity and fear.

Elijah spoke, his voice measured, "Nature's counterbalance or not,

we need to understand the implications of this discovery.

Kol, you've taken a bold step.

We'll investigate this matter thoroughly."

Kol nodded, his eyes meeting Klaus's with a challenge. "I didn't do it lightly, brother.

It's time we break free from the shackles of the past, even if it means facing the unknown."

With a swift motion,

he applied the ancient ward,

speaking the words in Old Norse:

Kveðja blóði, binda saman fjögur,

(By blood, bind together the four,)

Skapa vernd sem enginn getur rofið,

(Create a protection that none can break,)

Þannig verði,

(So be it,)

þessi galdur þig bindi.

(this spell shall bind you.)

As the words resonated, a faint glow enveloped the metal box, indicating the activation of the ward. Klaus inspected it with a nod of approval.

"Good work"

"Now this box can only be opened if we all give our blood freely. The magic responds to the combined essence of each Mikaelson sibling, ensuring that only our combined blood can unlock it." Kol grinned mischievously.

"That was a very exciting day, toodles, my dear siblings. I need a Barrel of rum" left Kol while muttering.
