I NEED A MOM DAD

CHAPTER SIX

As Serena's boss was in the middle of a Zoom meeting, his daughter entered the room. He quickly muted himself, not wanting to interrupt the conversation.

"Daddy, can I have a snack?" she asked, her face hopeful.

"Honey, I'm in the middle of a meeting," he said, gently. "Can you please wait until I'm finished?"

His daughter's face fell, and she looked like she was about to cry. "But I'm hungry," she said, her voice cracking.

He felt a wave of guilt wash over him. He hated disappointing his daughter, but he also knew he had to finish his meeting. He thought quickly, trying to come up with a solution.

"How about this," he said, his voice soft. "If you can wait just five more minutes, I'll get you a special treat."

His daughter's eyes lit up, and she nodded vigorously. "Okay, Daddy!" she said, her voice excited.

He smiled, grateful that she had agreed. He turned back to his computer, and unmuted himself. "I'm sorry for the interruption," he said to the people on the call. "I'm back now."

They all nodded, and he continue his discussion,he was engross on the discussion that he didn't notice she was still inside her study room until he noticed that the attention of the board member was divert as if they were watching something behind him. He turned back to see what they were looking at and noticed his daughter on a stool behind him peeping to be able to reach the table."we have nothing much to discuss , anyone that has a thing or two to discuss with me after this meeting should come to my office tomorrow" He said closing the meeting before turning to his child that has finally sit down on the stool.

"Do you want to wound yourself" he asked fighting hard not to shout at her ,he was angry and surprised at the same time.

"I am sorry Dad , I thought you have find a mom for me and I will like to see her face maybe I will like her " she apologized looking down using her eyes to search the ground like she is finding something.

"Alice, not this night again" he said calmly.

After some minutes of silence ,he stand-up and walk to his daughter and carry her on his lap .

"I want to see Mommy," his daughter said silently more like a wispher , looking up at him with wide eyes.

He felt his heart sink. He had been dreading this moment. His daughter was too young to understand that her parents were no longer together. He took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice calm.

"Sweetie, Mommy isn't here right now," he said, gently. "She's not living with us anymore."

His daughter's face crumpled, and she started to cry. "Why not,is she dead? " she asked, her voice full of hurt. "Or did I do something wrong, that my mom never show up till now?".

He took a deep breath, not sure how to break the news to her. "Sweetie, Mommy isn't dead," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "But she's not able to be here with us right now."

She looked at him, confusion in her eyes. "But why not?" she asked. "Where is she?"

He could see that she was struggling to understand. He felt a lump in his throat, but he knew he had to tell her the truth. "Mommy is in heaven now," he said, his voice breaking. "She's not here with us anymore."

She stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. "But...but why?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Why did she go to heaven?"

He could see the pain in her eyes, and it broke his heart. He knelt down, so he was at eye level with her. "Sweetie, sometimes people get very sick, and they can't get better," he said, his voice soft. "Mommy was sick, and she couldn't get better. So she went to heaven."

She looked at him, her bottom lip trembling. "But...but I want her here," she said."Dad if she is unable to come find me a mommy " she said suggestively dropping the bomb word.

"You want someone to be your mommy, right?" he asked, his voice gentle.

She nodded, tears rolling down her cheeks. "I want someone to read me stories, and play with me, and tuck me in at night," she said, her voice breaking. "And give me hugs and kisses."

He pulled her close, hugging her tightly. "I know it's hard to understand," he said, holding her close. "But even though Mommy is gone, I promise I'll always be here for you. I'll be your daddy, and I'll always love you."

She took a deep breath, and looked up at him. "I know you love me, Daddy," Alice said, her voice shaky. "But...I want a mommy too."

He looked into her eyes, and his heart ached for her. "I know it's hard," he said, his voice full of compassion. "And I wish I could fix this for you. But I want you to know that you are loved, and you are so important to me."

She looked at him, her eyes wide. "I love you too, Daddy," she said, her voice small. "But my friends always have something to talk about in my class about my mom".

"I'm so sorry to hear that," he said, his voice full of concern. "That must be very hard for you. Can you tell me a little more about what's been happening?"Damian asked , trying hard not to get angry in front of his child.

She hesitated for a moment, but then she started to talk. "Some of the kids in my class are saying that it's not normal to not have a mom," she said, her voice full of sadness. "They're making fun of me and saying that I'm weird ,that am…." Alice didn't finished it before putting her head on his chest.

He felt his heart breaking for her and start caressing her hair slowly "That's not true," he said, his voice firm. "You're not weird, and I will not let them call you that again" he promised.

" Then find me a mom and you will have a wife , it's a win win "she suggested happyly as if she as bring the most valuable suggestions.

His eyes widened at her request. "You want me to find a wife?" he asked, his voice full of surprise.

She nodded, her eyes filled with hope. "I know it's a big ask," she said, her voice small. "But I really want someone to be my mommy. And I think you'd be happier if you had a wife, too."

He couldn't deny that the thought had crossed his mind before. But he wasn't sure if he was ready to date again, let alone get married. "That's a lot to think about," he said, trying to keep his voice steady

"I know you really want this, sweetie," he said, gently. "But it's not as simple as just going out and finding a wife."

She looked at him, her expression full of confusion. "Why not?" she asked, her voice full of innocence. "Can't you just find someone, and then we'll all live together?"

He smiled at her innocence, but also felt a twinge of sadness. "It's not that easy, honey," he said, his voice gentle. "There are a lot of things to consider before getting married.

"There's finding someone you love and who loves you back," he explained. "There's making sure that person is right for you and your family. There's making sure they want the same things as you do, like getting married and having kids. And there's a lot of other things to think about, too."

She thought about what he said, her brow furrowed in concentration. "So it's not like picking out a new toy or a new dress?" she asked, her voice full of curiosity.

He smiled at her analogy. "No, it's not quite like that," he said.

"I promise that I'll do my best to find someone who can be there for you and help you at school," he said, his voice full of sincerity. "But I can't promise that it will happen right away. It might take some time to find the right person."

She seemed to understand, and her face relaxed a bit. "Okay," she said, her voice soft. "I'll be patient."

He smiled, relieved that she seemed to accept his explanation. "Thank you, sweetie," he said, his heart full of love for his daughter. "I know this is hard for you, but I will make sure I find some to attend the composition"

"Thanks Dad ,you will be also part of the composition with my new mommy because it parents and their child composition and it coming up next two weeks"she said and quickly excused herself for him not to reject her that he will not be there too.
