228 Gwen's Confusion

Perkins had been feeling the strange sensation of her body rapidly healing.

Upon hearing Russell's words, she looked up at him, taking a few seconds to think.

Then, she began to recount everything she knew.

Time passed slowly.

Although Perkins didn't provide much information, and much of it was speculative, Russell still furrowed his brow after listening to her account.

If everything Perkins said was true, there was only one reasonable explanation.

The Continental Hotel, or rather, the High Table, intended to completely unify the world of assassins.

However, this explanation had its flaws.

People who became assassins were not the easiest to control, especially those who had made a name for themselves in the profession. Forcing them into submission was as challenging as asking a criminal organization to abide by the law, which was practically impossible.

Furthermore, considering the Continental Hotel's current status in the world of assassins, they had no need to undertake such a thankless task. Regardless of how many active assassins were out there, as long as the Continental Hotel maintained its gold coin system, its position in the world of assassins would remain unshaken. After all, the services provided by the Continental Hotel to numerous assassins were genuine and indispensable. Without the Continental Hotel, many things would become extremely inconvenient, unlike now, where a single gold coin could resolve matters.

Russell pondered with a furrowed brow for a few seconds. Although he didn't know why the Continental Hotel had suddenly targeted Perkins and others, he had already provided assistance to her. According to the Continental Hotel's rules, he had already violated their policies. While the Continental Hotel might not dare to take action against him, considering Perkins' appearance and the fact that she had already received assistance, he decided to look into this matter a bit further. There wasn't anything particularly pressing for him to deal with recently, so scheduling some relaxation for himself made sense.

"I will have someone investigate what you've told me. Until we find out the real reason, you can stay here."

With that, Russell called in White Zetsu No. 12, who was currently attached to North American Gray Wolf, from outside the interrogation room.

"He will take you to a resting place."

"There are many secrets within the Justice League Headquarters. Don't wander around without good reason. Stay in the guest room and wait for updates."

Perkins nodded to indicate her understanding. While she had known Russell for quite some time, their relationship was limited to a few cooperative missions. They couldn't be considered friends, just former colleagues.

Once Perkins left with White Zetsu No. 12, Russell also exited the interrogation room and went to the living room. Calculating the time, Gwen was due to arrive soon. While Perkins was attractive and a renowned cold-blooded female assassin, when compared to Gwen, she fell a bit short.

A few minutes later, Gwen, wearing her Spider-Woman costume, arrived at the Justice League Headquarters. As usual, Gwen had initially planned to return to her room to change clothes. However, as she passed by the training ground, her Spider-Sense suddenly reacted. What was this?

Receiving a warning from her Spider-Sense, Gwen didn't hesitate and headed straight for the training ground.

Upon reaching the training ground, she saw an unfamiliar figure. Although Gwen's Spider-Sense wasn't as adept as hers, when she arrived at the training ground, her Spider-Sense also reacted.

The sudden activation of her Spider-Sense left Peter momentarily stunned. Then, he was forcefully punched by the Hulk, causing him to fly through the air like a baseball hit by a bat.

"You zoned out!" After punching Peter and sending him flying, the Hulk said in a gruff voice.

Although the Hulk's voice wasn't quiet, Peter, who was in mid-air after being punched, clearly didn't have the mood to pay attention to what the Hulk was saying.

Before landing, he turned his head to look in the direction indicated by his Spider-Sense. Then, he saw Gwen, dressed in her Spider-Woman costume.

Although Gwen hadn't seen Peter before, she immediately realized who he was when she saw him. Super Spider-Powers! This little guy in the red and blue suit had the same super spider-powers as her!

Discovering this, Gwen's gaze towards Peter became somewhat complicated.

Under Gwen's gaze, Peter, who was still in mid-air, forcefully twisted his body. Then, like a gymnast, he landed steadily on the ground.

At the time of their training, Hulk had planned to launch a second attack. However, upon seeing Peter turn to look in another direction, he also followed Peter's gaze.

Then, he saw Gwen, who hadn't been to the Justice League Headquarters for some time.

Seeing Gwen's figure, the Hulk raised his right hand excitedly and waved to her.

Although Gwen rarely visited the Justice League Headquarters, she got along well with the Hulk.

Hulk also quite liked Gwen.

Of course, the one who best met Hulk's aesthetic standards was Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, whom he had met only twice.

Although he didn't know how long Natasha, who was currently undercover at S.H.I.E.L.D., would continue her mission, he was looking forward to the day she officially joined the Justice League.

Seeing the Hulk's reaction, Gwen raised both of her hands and waved back to him.

She didn't approach Peter or the Hulk to inquire about their plans.

After exchanging greetings with the Hulk, Gwen left the training ground and headed to the living room.

Upon arriving in the living room, she saw Russell lying on the couch, basking in the sun.

While Gwen's footsteps were incredibly light, to the point where an ordinary person wouldn't even notice, for Russell, who possessed extraordinary senses, Gwen's "stealth" was as conspicuous as a police car with sirens blaring.

Without waiting for Gwen to speak, Russell opened his eyes, sat up, and smiled as he looked at her.

"You're here!"

"Yeah!" Gwen nodded in response.

Then, she removed her mask and sat down next to Russell.

"Who was practicing with Hulk on the training ground?" Gwen's delicate and fair oval face displayed a puzzled expression as she asked directly.

"Peter Parker. He used to be the chief researcher at the Octopus Monster Laboratory and my earliest intern."

Russell quickly answered.

"How did he obtain his spider powers?"

Gwen continued her questioning.

"Like you, he was bitten by a radioactive spider, which caused his genes to mutate, granting him spider-like superpowers."

"However, his spider bite wasn't a random occurrence; it was something I intentionally arranged."

Russell briefly explained Peter's situation.

Upon hearing his response, Gwen furrowed her brow and asked, "Where did you find that radioactive spider?"

"I reached certain agreements with the Oscorp Corporation and acquired thirty genetically modified radioactive spiders from them."

"Because Peter's genetic sequence shared some commonalities with these spiders, I had No. 3 run several data simulation experiments."

"After confirming the safety of the experiments, I arranged for human experiments, and that's how he gained spider-like superpowers, similar to yours."
