The Black Watch

First Person POV.

If someone had told me that I would die in 1967, I would have reported the person to a psychiatric hospital. But here I was about to die either in the hands of the approaching mob or the black figures behind me.

My only hope of leaving this forsaken timeline was on the brink of death, plus I was about to be mauled by these black assassins. Any feeble-minded person in my situation would have simply given up hope, but for some reason, I didn't feel that way at all.

In my distressed state, my brain was firing up like a supercomputer. It was a fight-or-flight response. I don't know what happened, but all the fear of dying was quenched in my heart.

So I did what a normal person would never do. The black figure has just thrust his sword to my heart, but my inflexible hips bent seventy degrees backwards, dodging it by a hair's breadth.

Next, I held the sharp samurai sword by the surface and flung it away. The black figure didn't see it coming, so momentarily, he was shocked at the move. However, I used this minor distraction to my advantage.

Thanks to the Desert Eagle firearm Kolade gave to me, I was able to use it to my advantage, so I cocked the gun and pointed at the figure holding Kolade's throat and fired on his shoulder, causing him to drop Kolade to the floor.

I don't know what was it about these figures, but they sure bleed easily. Seconds later after the shot, he had already bled to death.

But what I didn't know was that there was only one bullet remaining from the magazine. Shit! I desperately pulled the trigger at the advancing figure, but I was only hearing clicks.

The mob's voice had amplified significantly, showing that they were almost near. I presumed I wasn't going to survive, but I must take someone down with me, even if it went against my beliefs.

But saving Kolade happened to be the best decision I made. With the AK-47 in his hand, he shot the figure's back, causing the blood to spray on my face. Gross! Kolade subsequently gunned down the second figure.

What happened in the bunker happened again. The dead mercenaries faded away before my eyes. I think it has to do with time travel.

"Quickly, tap on the door icon on the screen's watch", Kolade said hurriedly and fiddled with his watch. I stared at my watch, which was showing 06:21 pm. It wasn't didn't seem to be the current time of the day.

But I quickly reckoned that it was their return time to the bunker. Which made him ask: What year was that mysterious bunker timeline placed? Kolade once mentioned that the bunker was timeless, but I failed to believe it.

I touched the door icon, and a dialogue box popped on the screen. "Sync in progress" text kept blinking.

"This is going to take time. We have to run!" Kolade said and turned around and ran. We kept running for a long time, and while Kolade kept staring at his watch and cursing under his breath, I was searching for places to hide in case these people caught up with us, which might happen at any moment because they kept throwing cutlasses at us.

One youth threw his cutlass at me, and while I was able to dodge it, my running legs couldn't escape it. The pain as a result of the sharp edge cutting in my skin stung so much that it slowed down my pace significantly.

The youth cackled and latched on me, further slowing me down. "You go die". He shouted in my ears. The putrid smell emanating from his mouth almost caused me to gag.

However, my body-filled adrenaline gave me the power to throw him off. Meanwhile, Kolade turned to me and flashed me his usual smile.

"We're ready to go now", he said. "Alright, boot us out of here!" I screamed back. It was at this moment that the mob began to chant war songs. It was like a victory song.

I've heard this song before.

My mother used to tell us about some aspects of life in villages, and at one point, she sang this exact song. It was the normal songs, warriors of Igbo land sing when they've attained victory from war.

Although it was a little different from what he heard, he knew this song from anywhere. "We have to be stationery!" Kolade said. "How long do we have to stand?" I asked.

"Roughly eight seconds", Kolade replied. I don't think these mobs would give us eight seconds to stand akimbo before they descended upon us. I have to think of something.

Thankfully, my very active brain thought of a solution. The solution was something I never thought I would have.

There was something I didn't tell Kolade. Moments after he shot the black figure that was coming for me, those assassins disappeared. But while they faded away, there was something that was left behind.

It was a black watch. Unlike the one he was wearing, however, this one had an analogue interface. But I didn't have time to fully examine it before Kolade told me to run. Out of sheer curiosity, I picked it up.

I have a feeling that this watch was what enabled them to jump forward in time, but I wasn't sure. It could simply be a normal watch. But what's the harm in trying?

I pulled the pin backwards and scrolled it one minute away from the current time. Not surprisingly after I pushed the pin back, my vision became white and a wobbling sound vibrated in my ears, and by the time I regained my vision, the crowds were gone.

Third Person POV.

However, Caleb didn't give himself the time to celebrate his close call with death. He looked at his watch, which said "sync failed, attempting re-sync".

Kolade was already too far from his current location. The strange watch must have transported him a minute into the future. "Kolade?" Caleb screamed at the top of his lungs.

Then, there were gunshots in a distance. Caleb quickly followed the source of the sound, which was even further than he realized.

Then, he saw it. Kolade was on the ground, and the blood-thirsty mob descended on him with the cutlasses in their hand. However, just when he thought he was going to be sliced apart, Kolade displayed his unbelievable prowess.

With one swift turn, he turned around his body and sprayed the AK-47 on the crowd. One after the other, they dropped like flies. Kolade stood up immediately, but he didn't run.

As soon as he emptied the magazine, he turned the firearm into a club. The middle-aged man that kept stabbing at him with a rake received a fatal blow on the head.

Soon, the last person was down. Kolade dropped the gun in exhaustion. "Where did you go?" Kolade asked. "I used the…"

But Kolade interrupted him. "Never mind. Let's sync up and get outta here!" Kolade said and attempted the re-sync. Soon, the two watches synced together, and the duo disappeared.

TMF Bunker.

Henry was already exhausted after completing the paperwork he was mandated to do by Lucy. He carried the files and dumped them inside of a cabinet and closed them. He has no idea as to why his commander rejected the idea of using computers.

In her word, "I can't allow sensitive pieces of information of this secret organization to be laying there on the internet for someone to infiltrate and access". This was reasonable, but using papers still put it at risk of physically damaging or getting burnt, so either world had its disadvantages.

He emptied his cup of coffee and decided to call it a day. He turned off the lights and headed to the door. He had barely touched the door's handle when he heard a whirl coming from the time machine. The static electricity formed a hemispherical globe around the seats.

Then, a blinding white flash illuminated the room, and ten seconds later two figures materialized on the seat. As time passed, the blinding dimmed, and Henry could see Caleb and Kolade sitting on the seats.

Then, the whirl stopped, and the hemispherical globe fizzled away. Caleb and Kolade both staggered out of the elevated platform.

"What happened to you two?" Henry asked with a frown. "You need help?"

"Never mind, I'm fine", Kolade waved his hand and headed to his room. Caleb, however, left the time machine and sat on his chair in the laboratory. Henry approached him and sat opposite him.

"You're bleeding on your leg. Anything out of the ordinary happened?" He asked. Caleb stayed silent.
