1 The Fall

As dark clouds covered the sky a group of soldiers could be seen walking through ruins of a town were they stopped at an abandoned store. They all looked at a feed from drones that they sent, what they saw left most of them feeling relived mostly because it looked like a creature they could take down since it was alone.

It was similar to a gazelle expect for the fact that it didn't have any skin, had a skull surrounding its head, eyes the size of golf balls on its meaty thighs and what looked like either metal or stone coming out of their joints.

"Same formation we practised me and Gun will flank from the sides if your guns fail to take it down." The captain of this group of 7 soldiers said as he held onto the new short swords that were provided to them by the government, they had a weird feel to them as they seemed to be powered by electricity or at least that's what they thought since they were only told that the blades should be able to harm some of the creatures and they let out a weird sound.

He soon went around the building, where he signalled that there were 4 of them with 3 currently feeding what we assumed to be humans. He told us that he would take 1 of them out but the other 3 would be left up to us to deal with.

The remaining soliders looked at Auster the most experienced person after their captain. A sigh escaped from his lips as he held onto one of the blades while holding his trusty gun in the other.

"I want the 5 of you to draw the three's attention so our captain doesn't have to deal with all 4 of them at the same time, I'll try to take each of them down one by one so be sure not to shot me by mistake."

"Also if possible try to get the high ground." Auster said with a smirk, it was something he always said when he was trying to calm peoples nerves as well as his own.

First he put a few bombs to try and distract the monsters, slow them down and to tell him if anything was coming his way. He then waited for a minute or so.

After a few seconds a red flare could be seen in the sky it almost caused Auster to go into action until he remembered that their captain had a dark blue one. Soon enough their captain sent the signal then then all that could be heard was the sound of gun fire.

The rest of the team managed to get the creatures attention each of them had managed to get onto the roofs of the closer building without getting any unwanted attention. Auster, regretted not bringing a smoke along as he started firing at one of the creatures that was lagging behind soon enough he had it's full attention.

He wasted no time and ran to the closest building he could find, with the creature right behind him. Soon an explosion resounded right as he shut the door and run to the second floor in the building where he threw his last grenade which hit the creature.

"Great now all that's left is to make sure it's dead." He said as he looked for something he could use, after looking for a while he found a metal bat.

"This will have to do for now." Auster said as he ran down the stairs, to the door where he unleashed hell on the creature. After the bat could no longer be used he aimed his gun at it's head where it stooped before reaching it's brain.

'To shallow to kill it.' Auster then aimed at it's neck.

'Not bad, but it could still move if it really came down to it.' He then took out one of the blades where meet some resistant he knew he could kill the creatures with them.

The only problem would be if the blade stopped working while he was still stabbing one of them and how he would get close enough without injured.

He took out a shard, he was told to retrieve if he somehow managed to kill one of the creatures then went back to get his grenades after making sure they were all together he ran to the last building he saw his team in. Even though he was in a hurrry he still made sure to check his surrondings.

Once he reached the top he knocked on the door where he saw his everyone in one piece including their captain.

"So did you manage to get it?" He asked while walking past him with everyone else following behind him.

"Yes I did though I wonder what they even need them for." He asked knowing that everyone thought the higher ups knew something, because monsters don't suddenly appear out of nowhere in the middle of a war.

Soon they arrived at their truck where they reloaded their ammo and went in search of civilians.

"Guys do you really think it's possible that everyone has evacuated?" Steve asked clearly not looking foward to fighting any more of these creatures. Especially since their captain made them fight them while giving the reason that more people would die if they were left alive.

There was also the fact that they could deal with them when they were going back so it was better to kill them. Most of them really just pulled through cause if they died they knew their family would be taken care of especially with the shards they'd be bringing back.
