10 Meeting Capitan America

For the rest of October, Adam was put on desk duty, going over field reports of all Hydra activity, and it wasn't good. With their powerful weapons, they've taken control of the front lines and are pushing the Allies troops back. Thankfully, Adam knew that soon Steve would come and start the battle against Hydra.

On October 3rd, Adam was in the command tent with Colonel Phillips going over reports when Steve came rushing in.

"Well, if it isn't "the star-spangled man with the plan, "What is your plan exactly?" Phillips asks with amusement in his voice.

"Azzano. I want to see the casualty list."

"You don't get to give me orders, "Captain. Phillips says, pointing at his colonel insignia.

"I don't need the whole list. Just one name. Sergeant James Barnes from the 107th

looking at Peggy. "You and I are going to have a conversation later that you won't enjoy."

"Just tell me if he's alive, sir. BA-R-"

"Do not spell at me, son."

Seeing this, Adam steps forward. "Sir, Steve is only on loan to the USO. Officially, he is still SSR."

Staring at Adam, Phillips relents. " Barnes?" Steve nods, Phillips sighs, and he looks through some letters. "I've written more letters to more mothers than I care to count. I'm sorry. But the name does sound familiar."

Steve's complexion turns pale as Phillips' words sink in. He gazes at a map of Austria displayed on the wall, which is accompanied by aerial photos of a facility. "What about the others? You're

Planning a rescue mission?"

" Yeah. It's called "winning the war."

"But if you know where they are—"

"They're thirty miles behind the lines. Through some of the most heavily fortified territory in Europe. We'd lose more men than we'd save. I don't expect you to understand that because you are a chorus girl."

"I think I understand pretty well."

"Then understand it somewhere else. If I read the posters right, you've got someplace to be in a half-hour."

"Yes, sir. I do." Steve says as he exits, taking one last look at the maps as he goes.

Phillips goes back to signing letters and not even looking up at them. You've got something to say; now's the time to keep it to yourself." Only making Peggy and Adam share a look before going back to what he was doing, Adam motions for her to go after Steve.

At night, after some small talk with Howard, Peggy, Steve, and Adam found themselves in a plane flying over enemy territory. Going over a map as Steve and Adam get ready to jump out of the plane.

"The Hydra camp is in Kreuzberg, tucked between two mountain ranges. It's a factory of some kind." Peggy tells them.

"We should be able to drop you right on the doorstep." Howard is added to the controls.

"Just get me as close as you can." Steve tells him as he looks at Adam and Peggy. "Adam, you don't know how to come with me; you're all already going to get into trouble. I don't want you to get hurt or, at worst, killed for helping me."

"Steve I'm going with you; someone has to watch over you, inexperienced ass." Adam, tell him.

"Don't worry about us, and Adam has been going on missions like this for a while now." Peggy tells Steve.

Looking at them, Steve smiles. " Thanks."

The moment was ruined when Howard spoke. "Agent Carter, if we're not in too much of a hurry, I thought we'd stop in Lucerne for a late-night fondue." Howard grins. Steve's a little tweaked.

"Why is he saying "fondue" like that? What's fondue?" Steve asked, making Peggy smile and Adam chuckle.

"Stark's the best civilian pilot I've ever seen, and mad enough to brave this airspace. We're lucky to have him." Peggy says she is avoiding answering the question.

"Do you, are you two...fondue?" Steve asked, making Peggy go series and Adam smack his forehead, shake his head, and look at the idiot in front of him.

"Take this transponder. Activate it when you're ready, and the signal will lead us right to you."

"Are you sure it works?" Steve asked, looking at the Stark Industries logo and remembering the flying car Howard made.

"It's been tested more than you have." Howard quivers as the ground forces below start firing at the plane, lurching it around.

Worried something would go wrong. Peggy wants them to wait and go back, but Adam opens the side door and turns to Steve. "Ready to go, Capitan America." Adam asks, holding out his hand.

"Ready." Steve says, shaking Adams hand and then turning to Peggy, while the familiar 'ding' sounds in Adams head. "Once we jump, turn around and get the hell out of here." And with that, Adam and Steve jumped out one after the other.

While going down, Adam checks on his reward. 'Claim.'

[Met Capitan America, Reward: + 5 Body, + 5 Soul, + 50 SS Coins.]
