65 Chapter 65 - The Mission Intermission

Some time flew by quickly, and before Lily knew it, May 14th arrived.

Phil had decided to collect her at her house and take her from there straight to the meeting place.

This time they weren't going to the base but instead to a carrier that would be taking them to the location of the operation.

However, as Phil was picking her up, he had someone else with him.

"Lily, this is Agent Melinda May, May this is Agent Lily."

Melinda May, Lily knew about the lady from the series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Still, she had never finished watching the series. It grew quite boring, and she decided to drop it, only having seen clips from it.

But looking at the lady before her, she looked quite similar to how she remembered in the movies.

She stood at an average height, yet she carried herself with a confident demeanor that showed her years of training and work as an Agent. Her jet-black hair styled in a sleek and professional manner, framed her face with their style.

Her eyes, a piercing shade of brown, held a glimpse of the hardships she had to endure throughout her life as a skilled agent. Yet, behind that sharp gaze, Lily could see an unknown emotion as she looked at her.

Her facial features were sharp and angular, and her lips curved into a slight frown when she looked at the girl's appearance.

Her physique was lean and athletic; her body had been tempered through training and physical activities from her years of an agent, all dressed together in a simple tailored for action suit with a jacket.

"Hello, nice to meet you."

Lily said with a smile as she stopped looking at the lady's body and greeted her.

The lady seemed unsure about how she should react, glancing toward Phil with a look that basically showed her displeasure with this situation.

May did not like the idea of a young child being used by S.H.I.E.L.D. for dangerous missions or in general. She had actively shown her dissatisfaction with it, even more so than Phil, in the past when it was brought up.

So seeing a child being sent on what is a dangerous mission, let alone being called an Agent, was not pleasing.

"Why are we bringing a child on the mission?"

While her words may seem harsh, they weren't directed toward Lily but rather at Phil; she was confused and disappointed that he would allow a child to be brought on a mission that may endanger her.

"I know what you're thinking, but hear me out. While she may be a child, she has been trained as an Agent for months and has shown great prowess on field missions. Most importantly, she's a mutant."

Phil explained it the best he could. However, he also agreed with the girl that he didn't enjoy bringing Lily on such a mission that could be dangerous.

But orders came from above to take her.

"She's a mutant?"

"Yes, her body is physically superior to that of a normal human; she's stronger than both you and I combined."

Explained Phil as Lily just sorta stood there and listened to them talking about her.

This wasn't the first time her height made people underestimate her, and she was sure it wouldn't be the last.

Eventually, May gave in since she couldn't do anything about it. Having been ordered from above, she couldn't deny the order.

"Nice to meet you, Lily; sorry for doubting you."

May said as she turned to face the girl with a small smile on her lips.

"It's fine; it happens all the time."

Lily replied as they decided to take the conversation on the road.

As they drove to their meeting point, May spoke some more with Lily, as she was curious about the girl's abilities and how she had been trained so far.

Lily explained she was a mutant with a physical boosting mutation that granted her superhuman capabilities, and she was mainly trained in various close combat fighting styles.

May was interested in seeing how strong she really was but didn't question it too much as they were quickly approaching their destination.

Soon enough, Lily could see the destination before them, a building that seemed much like an airport. However, it was specifically owned by S.H.I.E.L.D., and no civilians were allowed anywhere near it.

They would meet up with fellow Agents here and fly to the mission's location. She didn't know much about the mission, but she did know it required them to go to another country, which would be interesting.

Soon enough, they exited their vehicle and approached the carrier, entering it to begin their mission.
