Evil Woman

Wes's assistant, Samantha is on a few dating apps and she goes out with men whenever she can. She doesn't let her role as a mom tying her down. She still wants to enjoy adult life.

Tonight, she has another date, and she had a neighbor's kid babysit her son, Dalton. Samantha's parents have a bingo night tonight, so they can't babysit for Samantha for free.

"Hi Joe, I should be back at about 1 AM." Samantha puts her earrings on.

"No problem." Joe nods.

Samantha lives in a neighborhood really not that far from Rae. As Samantha leaves for her date, Rae is walking back home.

Rae's apartment has open air corridors, so anyone can see when she goes in and out of her apartment unit. Her parents were worried that it's not very safe for a single woman.

"But mom, this is the kind of design that a lot of apartments have these days. There's no more enclosed hallway building, which I'm happy about. My last apartment's hallway was always filled with everyone's cooking odor. Now that I have open, breezy walkway to my door, I don't have to worry about smell."

"It's got to be a lot colder having that kind of hallway."

"It's OK, Ma. And it's not called a hallway anymore. A walkway. Breezeway."

And because of this design, Wes once saw Rae walking back up to her apartment unit crying.

And because of this design, Joe, the babysitter for Samantha, sees Rae again.

Yes, again. Joe is the young kid who tried to hit on Rae at the Irish Pub.

Joe was walking around with Samantha's kid, Dalton, in the neighborhood, because Dalton was throwing a tantrum at home. Joe decided to just take him out. It sounded bad, but, he thought he could walk Dalton like walking a dog so the boy would be tuckered out a little and stopped whining.

And he just so happens to look to Rae's apartment building's direction, and he sees Rae walking up the stairs.

"Hey!" Joe shouts out.

Rae continues to climb the stairs, not responding.

"Hey old lady!" Joe shouts again.

This time, Rae turns her head. She peers. She is puzzled. She is not sure who the heck just yelled.

"Ah, good, I see that you respond to 'old lady.' I'll call you old lady from now on." Joe drags Dalton over the the stairs.

"Who are you? Do I know you?"

"It's me, Joe. I bought you a beer at the bar when you were drinking alone. I don't believe you finished the beer."

"Oh, I remember now." Rae looks at him, "What are you doing here though?"

"I live sort of close by. You live here?"

"Maybe? I don't have to tell you."

"Well it looks like you do."

"OK." Rae crosses her arm, shaking her head. "What do you want?"

"Nothing. Oh, can I come up?"

"No. Are you insane? And you are with a kid."

"Dalton, do you want to go see this nice old lady's home?" Joe asks Samantha's son.

"No." Dalton shuts down the idea right away.

"See? Don't be weird. I don't want you two kids in my apartment." Rae points at Joe.

"I'm not a kid. He is. There's a huge difference." Joe gestures their height difference. In fact, Joe is taller than Rae as well.

Rae makes a mocking laugh, turns around, and goes upstairs.

"Can I have your number?" Joe runs up after her, holding Dalton in his arms.

"Oh my gosh. Why?" Rae stops in front of her door.

"I think you're funny." Joe is panting a little after running up.

"You are very weird."

"I am. You are weird, too."

"Whose kid is this?" Rae changes subject, not wanting Joe to talk about her anymore.

"My neighbor's."

"Where is your neighbor? Why are you taking this kid out here?"

"My neighbor is out on a date downtown. But, she's never going to meet anyone, because I'm pretty sure she's obsessed with her boss. And her boss is like the richest guy in Boston, if not in the entire New England."

"Wait, who is your neighbor's boss?" Rae is now curious. Is Joe talking about Wes Warren? According to her online search results— before she went out with Wes Warren on their first date, she did a little homework, trying to learn about him— Wes was dubbed the richest guy in New England area. Is that who Joe's talking about?

"What? You want to date her boss, too? You women, only like men with money."

"Jesus Christ, kid. I'm only asking because I know someone who fits that description. I wonder if that's your neighbor's boss."

"Really? You know someone like that?"

"I think so. Although I didn't know he had an employee who was obsessed with him. He probably didn't know, maybe."

"Maybe he didn't know. If he knew, he might be mad and fire her."

"Why?"

"She frequently tries to spy on him when he goes out on a date. I know so because she had me babysit this boy here a few times just so she could go watch him."

"Oh, that's kind of odd," Rae then takes a look at the little boy, "Maybe we shouldn't talk about your neighbor in front of him," Rae lowers her voice.

"Relax, I'm pretty sure he hears even stranger things when he's alone with his mom. She watches rated mature TV shows that are not suitable for Dalton all the time."

"OK, well, I'm heading in now. Good night," Rae starts to unlock her door.

"Hey, can I please have your number?" Joe quickly asks.

"What for?"

"Buy you another beer?" Joe smiles. He has a very mischievous and boyish smile.

Rae hesitates a little.

"I swear I won't bombard you with texts."

Rae shakes her had, "I don't think it's a good idea. I mean, you know where I live now. Just knock on the door if you really want to buy me a beer. I really don't feel comfortable giving a young kid my number. Your parents won't be happy about this." Rae looks at Joe without a smile. She's serious. She had babysat young teenage boys in the past, and she knew they could be quite the pranksters and it's usually hard to negotiate with them to make them stop pranking. She can't guarantee that he wouldn't become that way and keep texting her to mess with her or something.

"OK, that's fair. Can I ask for your name, though?"

"Sure. It's Rae."

"Ray? That's it? That sounds like a guy's name."

"Yes, it is a guys' name. Good night," Rae rests her hands on her waist, tilting her chin up, signaling him to leave.

*** *** ***

Samantha is out on the town. And Joe is right, she can't seem to find the right man because she constantly compares them to Wes Warren.

But no one compares. Wes Warren is tall, handsome, rich, mature, and not a player. He is it for Samantha.

Samantha still goes to her date's home and sleeps with him. But she fantasizes about Wes when she has sex with her date.

That's not a bad thing to do, is it?

Comparing to other things she has done, maybe that's not the worse. Samantha deleted all of Rae's messages to Wes on the day when Rae was trying to find her smart watch, causing Rae to think that Wes ignored her all day long immediately after she had sex with Wes. Also not too long time ago, Samantha lied to Wes and told him Rae called and asked him to never contact her, ever.

Because of these two lies, Rae and Wes are not seeing each other anymore.

And Samantha has another trick if Rae ever comes near Wes again.

Samantha knows everything about Wes. She's too good of an assistant.
