Chapter 22

Ajay looked at the two curious faces in front of him.

Karl and Veer had been questioning him continuously since the moment he stepped inside from the main door. Ajay wasn't even surprised to see Veer in his house. This two have been contacting each other very frequently these days to discuss about his love life.

"I'm married.". There was complete silence after that. All three of their faces were blank; staring at each other. It was Karl who chose to speak first or should it be called laughing? "Ha. You. Ha. Fun. Ha. ny." Ajay looked at him; giving him a look that screamed 'what the hell are you saying' while Veer continued to stare at him.

"Bro, I understand that you've been alone for a long period but I didn't know it had affected you to the point that you're imagining things like this. I shouldn't have left to study abroad when you told me to. I should've stayed with you. I'm sorry bro." Veer said with sympathy; holding Ajay's hand.

Ajay facepalmed his face with frustration. He got up; went to his room, and returned with his marriage certificate. He tossed it to Veer without any word and went back to his room.

Karl inched closer to Veer and peeked at the certificate. They stared at it for a good 2 minutes and turned to each other; shocked.

"BRO!". "BOSS!".

It was already midnight when Diya felt someone patting her head in her sleep. She looked up and saw her mother smiling slightly at her. "Mom? You're awake. How do you feel? Wait, let me call the doctor." before she could press the call button, Mala stopped her.

"I'm fine. I want to tell you something. Sit.". Diya reluctantly sat down. "I want you to remember that everything that happened yesterday has nothing to do with you. Please don't blame yourself," Mala said tightly holding Diya's hand.

Diya sadly smiled at her. She decided against telling her mother about her marriage for now because it was obvious to her that Mala would blame herself for the decision Diya made. "I won't let anyone hurt you again. I promise.".

The next morning, Diya was helping Mala with taking a bath when she heard a commotion from outside. Balu was in a heated argument with the doctor when she came out. "Why can't I meet my own wife? Let me meet her or I'm going to call the police.".

"Why do you need to trouble yourself with something so trivial? I can call them in your stead. I was thinking about telling the police to reinvestigate mom 'falling when she went for a morning run' anyways. That way it's easier, right?" Diya asked Balu in a sarcastic tone.

She then turned to the doctor and said, "You can go now, doctor. I'll take care of this. Sorry for the trouble." The doctor nodded at her and glared at Balu before leaving them alone in the hallway.

The embarrassment made Balu, furious. "You wench! I don't know how I gave birth to an ungrateful daughter like you. First, you went around damaging my reputation and now you're even preventing me from meeting my sick wife.".

"Yes, she is sick. But did you forget what's the reason for her sickness? How could you be so shameless? And as for me damaging your reputation, you can rest assured now that I'm married.".
