He turns his head to look at me, his expression solemn as he hesitantly looks me in the eyes. Resting both of my hands on either side of his face, I say, “It’s not your fault, Kiernan. What happened to you is cruel but it was not your doing. You were just a child wanting to go to a beach to celebrate your birthday. And your parents are still looking over you, imagine how much it’s going to hurt them when they see their son blaming himself for an accident.”

His tears welled up again as I wiped his tears away from his cheeks, “They love you and they are so proud of how far you’ve come. You are an incredible person with a beautiful soul. And from now onwards, I don't want you to remember or think about sad memories, instead I want you to focus on the memories that we are gonna create now.”
