"Who wants to bring down my house with all this noise?"Apekeola heard her father ask.

"Who else? It's Fabunmi and her daughter of course."Her stepmother replied. Apeke didn't have to see her to know she was sending death glares her way.

Ajani, Apekeola's father shook his head at his wife's antics.Oh,he was getting too old for this."Hold your tongue, woman! My child , what's all this ruckus I hear?"He said turning to Apekeola.

"It's...."Apekeola was cut short by her stepsister,Adunni.

"The prince wants to marry your less attractive daughter,Apeke but she's too proud to accept the offer. Apparently, she thinks she can find someone better."She said this with a smug smile expecting her to be reprimanded.

"Is this true?"Apekeola's father,Ajani asks her. He knew all about the schemes and hatred within his family ,he was always cautious when settling matters and he couldn't just jump into conclusions based on hearsay.

"Papa, the queen wants me to marry her son .You know how he is .He is as stiff as wood. I couldn't possibly be happy with him."She couldn't stop herself from crying because she was finally talking to someone who would really listen to her and not just force her to accept their views and do their bidding. She was tired of arguing with everyone. No one seemed to really care about what she wanted anyway.

"Oh my poor child. Why do you have to be born in a world where you are so different?"Ajani couldn't stand the look of dispair on his daughter. He held her hand and led her out while Adunni rolled her eyes.

He took her to a place he knew would calm her down.
