Chapter 8 - Books

With her training every day for an hour— a week soon passed.

It was during this week that the Death Eaters made their act.

Or at least attempted to— because their plans were foiled by the very same person they were attempting to 'rescue'.

Not that they would know that—since as far as they are aware they got caught because of a mistake on their part.

A mistake that made it so they weren't aware of the old man being there on the day they were planning to attempt to sneak her out.

That mistake lead to a confrontational battle between the old man and the Death Eater— that was posing as a doctor, with the old man winning in the end due to his greater battle experience.

And just like that— one of the first confrontations that Vix had caused in this world since her coming here had come to an end with her not even knowing what happened.

The only reason she knew it happened, to begin with, was because she was aware of the day that it was going to happen— and because the old man paid her a visit the following day to 'check up' on her with some injuries on her body.

When she asked where they were from, he naturally made up some lame excuse— like falling down the stairs.

To which she laughed at in her mind because she found it funny that the old man used falling down the stairs as an excuse— it was perfect in some morbid way.

But that's beside the point— because right now she was alone in the room once more— with some of the books that she had asked for from Hogwarts.

To be more specific she had Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander.

These were the only two books she was given for now— with the excuse that if she finished these books she would be able to get more.

She was disappointed at first that she wasn't given anything that had spells in it, like the standard spells book for first years, but she got over it when she started reading through the books.

She started with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander, mainly because she had heard of the movies in her past life but never had the chance to see them.

So she expected the book to at least be good if it was able to become a whole movie in her past life— but she didn't expect how good it would be.

The first few chapters of the book were the most basic stuff— explaining what the book was about, what a beast is, and even going so far as to explain a bit about how muggles weren't aware of magical beasts.

Something she found fascinating because she always wondered how magical beasts were able to stay hidden from muggles for as long as they have.

Because unlike wizards and witches who had a sense of awareness— most beasts didn't.

So the book was definitely an eye-opener for her.

What she found even more interesting were some of the beasts that were explained in the book, with images of them next to the explanation.

It was truly amazing to see such creatures she had only heard the name of before for the first time— even more so when she figure out that this book could be of use to her with one of her abilities.

The ability that was explained away as being able to control dark creatures.

What she didn't understand, however, was what would fall under the definition of a dark creature.

Would it be something that was inherently dark? Evil in the sense that it would hurt humans? But that didn't make sense to the girl since the darkness isn't something that is evil.

The darkness is just the absence of light, something that has always been around and will always be around. So deeming it as evil wouldn't make sense.

Which lead her to her second theory.

Dark creatures are creatures that existed without the interference of people. In essence, creatures that came to be not because of the interference of people, but through natural means.

Just like darkness.

For example, the species are known as Acromantula. It was a large magical species of spider that is said to be native to the rainforest in Southeast Asia, where it likes to live in dense jungles.

What made it the perfect example was the fact that it is believed to be a species that was bred by wizards in order to protect or guard things.

This was apparently before some sort of ban on experimenting with the breeding of creatures.

But just this fact alone made her come up with the theory about how the ability worked.

And it would stay a theory until she found a way to prove it, hopefully by encountering a creature that she could test it on.

Something that wasn't dangerous enough to threaten her and could be easy to find.

Like the Flobberworm, or even Nifflers which she was sure she could find in the wizarding world.

She especially wanted to test it on a Niffler because being able to control something that was useful in finding treasures could be interesting to mess around with.

But that was all the book of creatures brought her of worth— entertainment and some theories about her ability she would have to test in the future.

The other book she had however— Magical Theory— while less entertaining in the mystical sense, was definitely a lot more useful in building an idea about magic in her mind.

An idea she really wanted to test out— but couldn't as of right now.

The book didn't explain much about any specific spells, simply matters of magic as a whole. Some theories about how it worked, why it worked, the ways it worked, and even some cryptic warnings.

'Tamper with the deepest mysteries — the source of life, the essence of self - only if prepared for consequences of the most extreme and dangerous kind.'

Which was just a roundabout way of saying don't mess with something if you don't understand it.

Which honestly made no sense since that was the very core of magic in any form— learning from trial and error in order to create something new.

But that was beside the point because the book gave the girl more ideas she wanted to test out with her darkness abilities, and a new idea on how to use them to get out of this place.

Or at least she hoped so.
