9 Lexi's Past

After their duel, Alex and Lexi walked side by side, observing others practicing in the public grounds.

"Was that the no-chant magic you mentioned before, Lexi?" Alex asked.

Lexi smiled and replied, "Yup, it was a no-chant magic."

She went on to explain the skill grades she had divided into four categories: beginner, proficient, veteran, and master rank.

"Beginner refers to those who have just started magic or have a complete grasp on the basics of magic," Lexi explained.

"Proficient are those who are quite accustomed to magic and are perfectly able to control their spells and its powers. Veterans are those who can cast a spell perfectly without wasting a bit of energy."

Alex was impressed and asked, "What about dual casting?"

Lexi pondered for a moment and then replied, "I thought about it a lot at first, but after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that it is possible, but only for null elemental spells which don't need visualization. Dual casting is not possible for elemental spells since they need proper chant to activate them. Since null elemental spells don't require much control over magic power, I can't place them in any category."

Alex listened attentively as Lexi spoke, and he had been working diligently to increase his control over his magic power. He had also been practicing null elemental spells of Touya, which he had read about secretly in novels.

In this world, Alex was an overpowered individual like Touya and could take over an entire kingdom if he wanted.

However, he didn't use this approach in friendly duels with Lexi. Instead, he focused on learning more about mana control, which could give him an edge against someone powerful with large magic power reserves like Touya or skillful like Lexi, who could sneak a powerful spell against him if she wanted.

Though he says he practiced his skills he isn't an idiot to hold back against his enemies who have any ulterior motives against him.

Alex and Lexi kept talking more about magic power and it's control a commotion attracted their attention.

"Someone is challenging the leader!" exclaimed a voice from the crowd.

"What! Hey, everyone! Come over here, some idiot is challenging the leader once again," another voice shouted, causing a commotion.

Alex raised his eyebrows in curiosity as he scanned the crowd for the source of the commotion. Lexi, on the other hand, wore a worried expression.

"Let's go," said Lexi seriously as she led the way towards the location where the fight was to take place.

In Sandora, the rebels were a force that enjoyed support from the commoners who also wished to change the tyrannical rule they were living under. However, no one dared to show their support openly as they were afraid of the king and the power he held.

The rebels had been around for over a century and had attempted countless assassinations and rebellions against the king, all of which had failed.

In the rebel camp, the old rule of 'the strong rules the weak' was followed, and everyone who had strength was respected. The leader, who was the strongest of them all, could be challenged by anyone who felt dissatisfied or wanted to become the leader themselves.

However, not many dared to challenge the leader as the battle for challenge was a fight to the death, and the loser had to die.

As Alex and Lexi made their way towards the ring where the battle was to take place, the tension in the air was palpable.

In the middle of the rebel camp, a ring had been created for a battle that was about to take place.

In the ring stood two men, both wearing proper sets of armor.

The taller of the two had a muscular build and held a great sword, while the other, who was shorter, had tanned skin and held a shield and spear. He was the leader of the rebels.

The battle began, and the challenger with the great sword plunged at the leader, their weapons clashing loudly. The leader was quick to react, blocking each of the challenger's strikes with his shield, but the challenger's brute strength kept him pushing forward.

The leader, being more agile, dodged one of the challenger's strikes and lunged at him with his spear. The challenger managed to deflect it with his great sword, and the battle continued.

Both men fought with great skill, showcasing their expertise with their respective weapons. The leader was quick on his feet, always moving and dodging the challenger's strikes. The challenger, on the other hand, relied on his brute strength and size to overpower his opponent.

The audience watched with bated breath as the battle continued, each strike being met with a swift counterattack. However, the tide began to turn when the challenger invoked his null elemental spell, Herculean Strength, which increased his strength by a lot.

[Herculean Strength]

The leader, seeing the challenger's sudden surge in strength, knew that he had to act fast.

[Anti-Magic Domain]

He invoked his own null magic, Anti-Magic Domain, a spell that created a domain where magic power couldn't be used by anyone other than the one who chanted the spell.

The challenger panicked as he tried to invoke his spell, but nothing happened. Sensing this opportunity, the leader impaled the challenger's heart with his spear, ending the battle in a matter of seconds.

The audience erupted into cheers, congratulating their leader for his victory.

After watching the intense battle, Lexi and Alex walked back towards their respective tents. However, Alex couldn't resist his curiosity and asked Lexi about her past and how she ended up joining the rebels.

"I was only seven when I joined the rebel camp. My parents, who were adventurers, were captured by the king who needed strong adventurers for his army," Lexi began, her voice heavy with emotion.

"At that time, my parents were fighting against the slave soldiers of the slave king but were outnumbered and eventually captured. Before they could take me too, my mother used a powerful spell to blow herself up along with the soldiers, allowing me to escape."

Lexi's eyes filled with sadness as she recalled the painful memory. "After wandering around the streets, I met a group of rebels who were kind enough to take me in and offer me a home. From that day on, I made it my goal to kill the current king, Abdul Djerba Sandora III, with my own hands," she finished with a determined look in her eyes.

Alex listened intently, impressed by Lexi's resilience and strength. "What about after killing the king?" he asked with a playful smile.

Lexi was taken aback by the question. "I haven't really thought about it," she admitted, frowning slightly.

"Well, what if I were to become the leader of the rebels and we were successful in overthrowing the slave king?" Alex suggested, a mischievous smirk on his face.

Lexi chuckled, with a mischievous glint in her eye. "Then I would do whatever you want, my dear Alex," she replied in a seductive tone, causing Alex's heart to race.

"Don't go back on your word then," he said with a charming smile before bidding Lexi goodnight and heading towards his tent.
