19 Identity [1]

[Dorm floor]

"It is done!" After a long time of sitting in the same position, I screamed excitedly when I managed to replenish my magical energy.

It had been a few hours since I texted Maya. Today was the day she would activate her ability for the first time.

I hadn't reached the maximum of my old core, but with that amount of magic energy I could fight for a while using two abilities at the same time.

It was the most I could do in a few hours. If it was my old self, I probably wouldn't have even half of the current amount.

Of course becoming Maya's friend brought many benefits, and now with her activating her ability would bring much more.

Xia Qinqiu was the first identity Maya assimilated with her manipulation of reality. As a cultivator of the legendary Realm of Saints, she cultivated many skills and being native to the upper sky, her Qi was much denser than normal.

As Maya assimilates her identity, she gets some of Xia Qinqiu's personality traits, in addition to being able to use Qi, she also gains various abilities such as the ice fairy palm.

Maya quickly starts cultivating and becomes an S-Class student, becoming the only cultivator in the entire world, which would put me at ease about attending S-Class.

"Have you really evolved your core?" Maya asked as she closed my bedroom door.

"I did." I raised my hand as she was covered in metaphysical energy. "Not as fast as you, but I did."

"Congratulations. There's still a little bit of magic energy left for me to activate my ability, but... I have something to show you."

"Oh? Then show it."

"First, activate your eyes of truth." With some anxiety, Maya ran over and sat down across from me. "I made some changes to my magical energy circulation, and now I'm able to circulate it without having to be focused."

I arched one of my eyebrows, following his orders, I activated the eyes of truth.

Seeing my eyes glow blue, Maya began to circulate her energy.

"Oh!? But it looks like the efficiency and quantity drops drastically when you use this."

"Yes, there are still some adjustments to be made." Even though I'd stated the obvious, Maya still had a big smile on her face. "But it's quite an achievement, don't you think!?"

Was it a great achievement? It was immense.

Maya controlled magical energy to such a degree that it was possible to jump from channel to channel in orderly cycles. When circling your magic control, you have to be concentrating on it as much as possible, a single blur, a single thought out of the process and it interrupts you.

Whenever I'm circling my magic control, despite being in situations that require my attention, I haven't managed to do both at the same time.

That was why most of the time I didn't respond to whoever tried to talk to me, because I was so immersed in my training.

But with this method of Maya, anything was possible.

"Yes, it's a great achievement." I replied to Maya, who waited in silence for me to finish contemplating my thoughts. "Now go finish replenishing your magic energy, I'm really looking forward to your skill!"

"Yes, sir!"

Maya abandoned her method of construction and began circling magic control at an impressive rate.

"This girl… this is starting to get ridiculous."

I grumbled as I turned my eyes off the truth.

I wanted to see exactly how Maya's ability works.

I had never tested the possibility of copying an original skill, if I could copy Maya's skill it would be of great help.

Mainly because I can access different identities. Despite looking weak, it was something extremely op.

Can you imagine simply assimilating a God? Or Gaia.

I sat across from her as I stared at her in silence, waiting for her to tell me that she was done.

******

"You're ready?"

"Honestly, no..."

Maya was quite nervous. She could feel the anticipation emanating from Dreyden, she feared that if something went wrong, he might be disappointed and abandon her.

Although she didn't want to admit it, she had become as attached to him as he was to her. Maya wasn't an idiot, she knew from the start Dreyden expected something from her.

However, the more time passed, the closer they became, Maya even told things about the other original families that Dreyden didn't know about!

She truly trusted him. However, she felt that she depended too much on Dreyden.

Maya wasn't just nervous out of fear of letting Dreyden down, but she was also starting to feel uncomfortable about her dependence on him.

She wanted to be strong alone, to help her new friend.

She knew that with just metaphysical energy, she could beat some students, but the difference to an average skill was already extremely big.

That was why she was so nervous.

"Don't worry, no matter what, I'll be here." Dreyden squeezed her hand, trying to comfort her.

He could also feel Maya's nervousness.

The latter nodded as she rose from the bed, standing. "Status".

She called when a tab appeared in front of her.

She stared at his energy for a while, before taking a deep breath to calm herself.

"It's all right." She looked at Dreyden, who was with a smile trying to comfort her. "Here I go."

Maya could see Dreyden's eyes sparkle as she began to circulate her magical energy.

As the process began, Dreyden swallowed hard as she saw Maya begin to climb off the ground and float through the air.

Maya opened her eyes when, above her head, a thread began to grow towards the sky.

She glanced at Dreyden, only to see another red thread coming out of her head and up into the sky.

Her eyes gleamed as everything around her began to slowly fade away. The bedroom walls fell in all directions as if they had been dismantled, Dreyden's body shattered into thousands of pieces that had been sucked into the red thread.

The world began to disappear as several red threads stretched in different directions.

Maya began to slowly feel the top of her head ache, raising her eyes, she began to see the wire on her head tremble and move in all directions.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

The wire began to thrash violently as the end came out of his head.

She felt her body stop for a few seconds, immobile, just following what sustained her life.

The end of the thread stretched and began to fly between the various threads over the black space. The thread that had just come out of the top of Maya's head seemed to be looking for something when, the tip continued to extend, until it disappeared from Maya's vision.

And the time passed...

It was so long that Maya had lost track of time. She seemed to be trapped in the finite dark with several lines around her seeming to be what kept her trapped.

'What are… these wires?' She wondered.

Maya could feel it, if she wanted to, she could mess with all the wires there, even if they weren't her identity, it was reality.

It was her domain of skill.

The only problem was that she couldn't unlock this skill.

She bit her bottom lip as frustration gripped her.

So much power at her fingertips, yet so far away!

Her body began to rapidly shake as she slowly lost consciousness.

Her vision was getting blurred as the world was rebuilding her vision.

Her eyes were slowly closing, and in the last focus of light from her eyes, she saw a thread, different from all the others present, this one glowed white, the thread intertwined with a pink and flew violently towards her.

And then, everything went dark.

She felt nostalgic remembering when she entered the Triangle. It was the same state, she couldn't feel, hear, speak or move.

Her senses slowly began to return when very quietly, she heard, "Maya, is everything okay?"

And then, several memories began to flood her mind as she felt her body begin to change.

"AAAAAAARGHH!!!!"

The pain was extremely fierce, something she had never felt in her life, even when she was constantly abused.

"MAYA! Yo what's going on?" Dreyden was confused.

He couldn't see anything different, for him, Maya was still, just circling her energy, not even a few seconds had passed when she started screaming and tears started to come out of her eyes.

He ran to the girl who collapsed in front of him, bursting into tears.

"Hey! Maya, talk to me!" Anxiety took over her reasoning as Maya wiped away her tears.

She squeezed Dreyden's hands and pulled them away, as if she had seen something unreal. Maya's eyes widened as she placed her hands on her head and quickly looked around.

"That's a lie, that's a lie, that's a lie..." She started muttering nervously as she looked from side to side.

She looked around the room at her clothes and as soon as her eyes fell on Dreyden, she frowned.

"W-who are you!? You don't exist-" She broke off her thoughts as she shook her head.

Muttering several things, she opened the bedroom door, running at full speed outside.

Dreyden lay on the floor, his eyes wide and his mind in utter chaos.

In his mind, Maya's last line echoed in his head before she left.

"Isn't this world real!? I have to find Lucas and confirm!"

He knew.

He knew that she knew.

Somehow, Maya found out.
