2 system zero

(A/N: I will be using Alex from now on instead of max to avoid confusion that might arise later (◠‿◕))

"What's this? Why can't I activate my skill? The Divine eye is even the weakest of all my skills yet it refuses to activate?!"

Alex said in annoyance. This situation of not being able to use such a simple skill was frustrating.

He jumped from the lake, attempting to maybe land on one of the huge trees around him only to be given another great shock.

His body felt extremely weak and heavy that he could only jump half a meters high. He tried again but the outcome was still the same.

He was about to go crazy. He refused to believe that he had been ditched by his powers. He tried a couple more skills and even some martial art techniques. It was only then did he finally realize that he had to believe it even if he was unwilling.

So aside from his immortal essence which allows him to heal, everything else was lost. To put it simply, he was a weak watermelon but at least dying wasn't available for him anymore.

"So I can fight recklessly since I can't die right? But that is not enough. Doesn't that means I will have to travel long distances on foot instead of just riding a flying sword?"Alex pinch the skin between his eyebrows" I almost forgot this planet had cars and all those other means of transportation since they depend solely on that technology stuff, but...they are still too slow from the memories I got. Sigh, I can't even activate my immortal essence when wet, so I guess I can't act recklessly and also stay away from water if necessary"

Alex was still in thoughts when a sound echoed inside his head, flipping away his tray of thoughts.

Ding!!

Alex almost got a heart attack when that sound echoed from within him.

"Who the hell is that!?" he roared into the void, hoping the intruder would show him/herself, but only dead silence greeted him for almost a minute.

Alex was about to speak again when a static voice interrupted him.

[System updating complete]

[System imprint]

[System activated]

Those prompts appeared simultaneously in his consciousness, he could somehow see them and even hear them (literally ୧| ͡ᵔ ﹏ ͡ᵔ |୨)

"What the..."

Alex was once again given a huge fright. He had concluded earlier that he was the only one with powers on this planet but he was now having second thoughts.

"If you are a cultivator or demon, you don't have to mess with my mind like that, it's very inappropriate. Just come out and stop concealing your presence".

Alex only mentioned those two, 'cultivator' and 'demons', because those were the only existence that could harness spirit energy on his home planet, aside from those two, he did not know of any other existence.

[Greeting host! This is your immortal system, host] A clear female voice replied to his demand instead of what he was expecting.

"What system?" Alex still wasn't convinced that it was some 'system' and not someone toiling with him.

[All immortals are bestowed with a particular system after transcending immortality and you also got one after ascending] The female voice replied plainly; it sounded much more like a fact.

"Are you saying you are my system and not someone who is trying to mess with me?"Alex narrowed his eyes and looked around him vigilantly. He was trying if he could somehow spot anyone who might be the owner of this voice that was conversing with him.

[Yes, I am your system, host] the voice replied coolly

Alex was still having doubts but decided to forget about it, at least for now. Even if this voice wasn't saying the truth, there was nothing he could do now that he was vulnerable.

After all, this voice already somehow knew he was an immortal, so clearly this voice wasn't as simple as he thought, so why bother with things he couldn't solve?

"Then, tell me why you are showing up only at this time because I'm certain I've been awake for some time now"Alex gave a last push to get something he hoped would come.

[System was booting] The so-called system stated casually, not bothered by Alex's vigilance.

Alex sighed as there was not a single flaw he could find in the voice's response.

"Ok then, so what do you have for me? No, I mean what use are you to me?"

[I think I should explain what a system does to host first, the types of systems, and the uses of the various systems. Well I guess I should say the types basically explain the uses.]  The voice finally sounded serious.

'Hmm. Since I don't have my powers and skills here, I guess this can be my op abilities on this planet, let's see. Hehehe' Alex thought to himself.

"Ok. Go on then"

[There are thousands of systems out there host. But there are four main systems at the top which could be said to be the ancestral systems. These systems are the strongest of all systems.

The genius system=makes anyone with the system the most intelligent on the entire planet.

The creation system=can allow the host to create anything they desire, life is the only exception.

The God system=make the host of this system the strongest on that planet.

The luck system = makes the host really lucky, always lucky.

So those are the four ancestral systems that any immortal would wish for, the rest are all under these four.

Speed system, strength system, time system, death system, life system, light system, karma system, fire system, metal system.

They just keep going, almost infinite] The voice finally stopped its explanation and allowed Alex to digest the new information or ask if he was confused.

"Ok. I understand now. So what type of system are you? You can even have a conversation with me, is that also one of your features?" Alex didn't think much of it. The explanation was so simple that even a blockhead would understand, knowing the different types of systems and their privileges just made him excited to have one.

[I am an evolved system. For some reason, you were deemed Worthy enough and got two systems, one from the four ancestral systems and another from the rest which together made me (◠‿◕)] the voice said cheekily.

"Hang on. Like hell? How did I know you just winked?" Alex didn't know how he should react to this new development. First, a system popped out of nowhere and now it could even make expressions that Alex could somehow feel/see and this gave him the chills.
