Chapter 37: Kazuma's Trial

Just a few days later, I was in a plaza of the town attending a public trial of Kazuma and he was being charged by the female persecutor for an act of treason. Kazuma looks very nervous and stressed while staring at execution stand with a loop of a rope prepared to hang his neck. He wasn't able to his nerve-racking situation and he vomited on his side.
"Can I really be an help here? I wasn't even present when the incident happened." I was sitting together with Aqua, Megumin and Darkness on the side to help them prove the defendant's innocence. It was Megumin who asked for my help after Yunyun told her how reliable and knowledgeable I was in any situation. She asked me to come here with them as advocates just in case things gets worse.
The trial started and the persecutor requested the witnesses to enter the seen and they all pointed at Kazuma for his sexual misconduct in the past with them. This made Kazuma more nervous.
Megumin and Aqua tried to object but it was futile since some of his troubles are caused by them. These two are really no good.
"You need to prove Kazuma's innocence. Please help us, Haru!" Aqua begged me.
"I'm begging you, Haru. Please save Kazuma. I will just make it up to you after this trial. You can ask me to do anything." Megumin looks desperate and shook me.
Kazuma looks guilty when they found out that he has drain touch spell which he learned from Wiz who was a lich and one of Demon King's general.
Darkness was hesitating while having a deep thought.
The persecutor presented some more evidences that Kazuma was having contact with Demon Officer and Aqua started to panic and lost her hope.
I sighed in this silly trial and stood up as I raised my hand.
"Objection!"
Everyone was surprised including the adventurers in the audience.
"You are..."
"My name is Haru and I'm here to prove that Kazuma is innocent and he didn't do anything wrong."
Kazuma was crying and he got a bit hope because of me.
"Go and get them, Haru!"
"Destroy them!"
Aqua and Megumin was cheering for me.
"Kazuma might be a bit pervert but he is not a terrorist or Demon King's spy, right? Kazuma?"
"Yes! That's right!" Kazuma quickly agreed and nodded his head intensely.
The persecutor, Sena was shock when the bell of the lie detector device didn't rang.
"How could that happen? Your Excellency?"
The Judge decided to not to take Sena's statement as evidence and Kazuma was about to get a not guilty verdict when the governor interrupted the judge and used his influence to change the course of the judgement.
Everyone became frustrated for unable to do anything or go against the Governor's words.
"Are you sure about using your power like that, Lord Alderp?" I gave the governor a menacing smile.
"Huh? Who are you?" the Governor glared to me.
"I wonder how should I report this to his the royal family especially his Majesty?" Darkness was surprised to see a medallion of her family in my hands.
"This should be an enough proof."
"What? Dustiness?! Are you related to that house?"
I showed the gold medallion which has a family crest of Dustiness House and Governor was irritated when things didn't went as he wants. He won't doubt my words since I have a blonde hair like those from noble lineage.
Darkness was flustered when she can't find her medallion from her pocket and she found out that I took it from her.
"Since when?!"
"Are you saying that you're a noble that working as an spy under the order of the royal family?" The governor pointed to me as he became nervous.
"Yes, I am." I responded with a smile and everyone was shock when the lie detector device didn't rang which means that I wasn't lying.
The Governor sweated profusely and he became nervous as I warned him while smiling cunningly
"That's why, forget everything what happened here and move on or you don't want to hear any unpleasant things from the Royal Family, right? You will also have to face the house of Dustiness."
"Ugh... Fine." he didn't any choice now but to give up as Kazuma was saved from unfair trial.
"Yay!"
Everyone was overjoyed with the conclusion of the trial and we went to Adventurers guild and celebrate our victory.
"Cheers!"
While they are partying and having fun, since I'm not in mood to drink, I left the guild and decided to go home when Megumin suddenly followed after me. While walking together along the streets at night, Megumin was silent and she isn't saying anything.
"Why are you following me? I'm on my way home now."
"I'll be staying over on Yunyun's room tonight." she responded.
"What about Kazuma's mansion?"
"I don't want stay there tonight. It feels like I'm a third wheel."
The change in timeline was Kazuma preferred Darkness over Megumin and the main cause of that is me when the two came to my home that night and no one interrupted Kazuma and Darkness in their hot night in the bath, causing their relationship to develop. They are saying nothing happened but I didn't believe in their words.
"Why are you so conscious about that? Did something happened between you and Kazuma? Did you got rejected by him?"
"I didn't! It's not like I like him in a first place!" Megumin yelled to me with her face flushed.
"Then what's the problem? I even thought that you like Kazuma."
"I told you I'm not! Really, you... I wonder what Yunyun see on you... You're so insensitive." Megumin looks irritated.
*Slap!*
I hit her in the butt, making a loud satisfying crisp sound.
"Ouch! That hurt! Damn you, Haru! I'm gonna sue you for sexual harassment!"
"Shut up! You're just an annoying little kid!"
"What did you say?!"
Megumin suddenly grabbed me on the face while I'm pushing her away from me. We are already causing a commotion in the streets and people from their houses are watching us.
"Calling me a little kid makes you a Lolicon! Me and Yunyun are just the same age!"
"It won't matter since there's a big difference in all sizes! Unlike her, you're chest is empty!"
"You judge someone with their figure? I would like to whack that annoying face of yours!"
She tried to hit in the face but I easily blocked her attacks with my palm.
"Huh? How can you see through that blindfold? Is there some kind of trick behind it?"
She suddenly grabbed my blindfold and took it away from me. Her eyes widened when gaze into my eyes.
"What happened to your eyes? Why are they glowing like mine but different color?"
I took back the blindfold and wore it again to avoid my eyes from getting fatigue.
"These eyes are special. I can still see even I'm wearing a blindfold."
"Amazing! So, it's really true that you are a spy working for the royal family."
"Nah, that was a lie. It's just a bullshit I came up from out of nowhere." I walked ahead of her when she got shock by the truth.
"Huh? A lie?! How did the lie detector device didn't rang from the trial?"
"You see, I have this ability called Infinity and it acts like a barrier around me."I explained then I waved my hands in front of her, "Try putting your hand out. Come on. Come one."
Megumin felt weird about it but she tried to do so as she tries to touch my hand then it suddenly stopped when it got closer.
"Huh?"
"You're not exactly stopped, but closer you get, the slower you go. I manipulated and distorted the space between me and the lie detector device so it wouldn't able to detect my lies."
Megumin frowned to me as I let of her hand from my infinity.
"Such a deceitful guy. I never thought that you can be sly and devious."
"We don't have any choice and tegardless of the results of the trial, Kazuma will be executed when the Governor ordered it. In the first place, you're the one who begged me to help as an advocate for him."
"No, I never said it in a bad way..."
"To tell you the truth, I really hate lying especially those people who deceive others for their own gain. Lies destroyed our relationships, livelihood and even our family. We lost everything because of lies."
Megumin felt uncomfortable with our conversation and I just smiled and patted her in the head.
"Sorry, please don't tell Yunyun about this. I don't want her to get worried."
