1 Murphy: chapter 1

Rala Stone, a sixteen-year-old native of Queens, was born in 2001. He had always been self-sufficient, diligent, and hardworking, even as a child in the orphanage where he was cared for by a loving lady called Ana.

Rala stood out as he was always hardworking and never a troublemaker. At fifteen, he started working part-time at Mr. Delmor's sandwich shop, earning $10 per hour, working for two hours after school and five hours on weekends.

Rala was a quiet, calm, and composed young man with a lovely face. He had a muscular and handsome physique with grey eyes, keen facial features, and elegant black hair. He preferred to wear hoodies to camouflage his athletic figure, avoiding getting involved with people to save his time.

One morning, Rala was on his way to school when he suddenly felt a splitting headache. He exited the train and proceeded to enter the school, stuffing his backpack in his locker before heading to class. Linear equations were the topic, but Rala was too distracted by his headache to pay attention. In his next class, science, Rala enjoyed the subject.

Lunchtime came, and Rala typically sat alone, but this time his spot was taken. He sat with MJ, Ned, and Peter in an empty seat. They stared at him for a second because he usually sat alone, so he said, "my seat is taken."

"We should probably stop staring before it gets creepy," said Peter, while looking at Liz.

"Too late," MJ added, "you guys are losers."

"Well, then why do you sit with us?" Ned shot back while crossing his arms. She looked up from her book and said, "because I don't have any friends."

Rala's headache continued to worsen throughout the day, but he shrugged it off. The rehearsal for the upcoming event took place, and Liz quizzed everyone. Peter appeared to be in a rush, as his focus was on the clock all day.

After school, Rala saw Peter jumping over fences, which should have been impossible. However, his headache prevented him from pondering any further, and he rushed to the train station. When he got home, he took some paracetamol and changed his clothes before heading to work.

Rala worked at Mr. Delmor's sandwich shop, where he had been employed for over a year. He enjoyed working there as Mr. Delmor was a pleasant guy who liked to joke around now and then. After his shift, Rala said goodbye to Mr. Delmor and petted Murph.

As Rala was petting Murph, suddenly, a burst of blue, transparent energy shot out from his eyes and enveloped the cat. He felt an overwhelming surge of knowledge as if all the information about cats was being shoved into his brain at once. He could see their habitat, genetic information, and functions as an organism with remarkable clarity, as if he had known it his whole life.

But then, as quickly as it came, the burst of energy disappeared, leaving Rala feeling confused and disoriented. Suddenly, he felt a strange sensation coursing through his body.

It was as if his bones were twisting and rearranging, and a blue, liquid-like fluid was covering his body. His mass visibly dwindled, and he felt his senses sharpen to an unprecedented degree.

Rala stumbled out of the shop and started running, his limbs changing and transforming at an incredible speed. He felt his legs becoming shorter, and his arms started to elongate.

Paws emerged from his hands and feet, and he could feel a tail sprouting from his back. His ears elongated and shifted to the top of his head, becoming cat-like in shape, while his nose and mouth pushed forward into a feline snout. His vision blurred, and his pupils became vertical as he struggled to keep his balance.

Eventually, he made it to an alleyway, but his transformation wasn't over yet. His vision started to darken, and he felt himself being forced to crawl on all fours.

His body trembled with the effort, but he couldn't stop the changes. When it was over, he was no longer Rala; - he was a small, grey-and-white cat, with all the instincts and senses that came with his new form.
