"Have you ever heard of the ten great core spirits?"
This question resonated in Fang Qiu's mind over and over. "The ten great core spirits? He somehow felt it sounded familiar yet at the same time, he had never heard anyone mention it before.
"The ten great core spirits are famous in all the realms for being very unique and at the same time capable of incredible feats none of the core spirits below the top ten would be capable of." The old man continued
"You said earlier that Fatty Zhang's ability could evolve into one of the top ten spirits. Does that mean mine can too? And mine is of a higher rank than Fatty Zhang's?" Fang Qiu asked the group.
"Technically that would be possible and would make you more special than Fatty Three, but this is not the case here. Let me continue my story and you will slowly come to understand."
By now even the other three were paying attention since their master never told them about the top ten in such detail. All they knew was that Fatty Zhang's soul eye could evolve into one of these ten spirits but that's all they knew.
"The ten great core spirits are all unique below the heavens. Meaning only one person can possess one of the Ten at any given moment. Let's say Fatty Three's core spirit were to evolve into one of the top ten, the evolution would fail if someone already possessed that ability.
That's why the ten are so rare. There might be tens or hundreds or even thousands of cultivators in the myriad realms possessing Fatty Zhang's soul eye. But only one cultivator can own the Void eye, ranked second on the ten great core spirits ranking. Even though the void eye has the word void in it, it's not a space element ability. But rather it is darkness element also often called death element. The void eye has the ability to kill anyone the cultivator looks at with a single thought."
*hiss*
Taking in a deep breath of air they all secretly hoped they would never meet that person or they wouldn't even realised how or when they died.
"Fatty Zhang, why are you puffing your chest? It's not like you have the ability. In fact you have more chance to be killed than any one of us since you have hundreds if not thousands of competitors out there that would stop at nothing to eliminate the competition." Fang Qiu retorted.
"Actually it's not like the great ten are unbeatable. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Though not all of them are known. It is said that the owner of the void eye ability can only kill users within his own realm or lower at will, but this has never been confirmed or denied." The old man also added whilst taking a sip from his wine he took out from god knows where.
"Then what are the other nine? And what do they do?" Su Meimei asked.
"Not everything is known about the great ten core spirits. But I can tell you what is generally known amongst the powerful cultivators at the very least.
The first rank belongs to the myriad transformations flower. It's ability allows the cultivator to cultivate every element!" The old man said with lots of excitement whilst emptying his jar of wine. This was the number one core spirit in the world after all!
"As for why it is number one: the first person to ever reach the peak of cultivation was the owner of the myriad transformations flower. It's even rumoured that he created all of the rare elements by fusing his own main elements and distributing their "seeds" across the myriad worlds. This means that before he reached the peak there were no rare elements at all! Only the main ten existed!
Fang Qiu and the others were already utterly stunned at this point. How powerful does a person have to be to create thousands of elements from nothing! This is basically changing the fundamentals of the universe!
"These rare elements can be more complicated than you could ever comprehend. There are reportedly nine main elements and three thousand rare elements. Meimei's luck element aswell as Third Fatty's ghost element are two out of those three thousand elements.
But as you could see during the sect recruitment in the city, only about one out of one hundred cultivators have one of the rare elements. In the higher world rare element users are more common where it's about one in ten. But even then that means there are about as many cultivators of all three thousand rare elements combined as there are of a single main element!
The other eight are mostly less famous so I can explain them to you all more quickly since not everything is known about them." The old man added whilst taking out a few fresh jars of wine.
"The third ranked core spirit is the immortal phoenix. Its spirit ability is making the owner capable of reincarnation with all their memories, experience and knowledge intact. In other words, the owner of the third ranked core spirit has never changed throughout history! It has no known weaknesses except for killing the cultivator before they awaken the core spirit at sixteen years old."
By this point in his story Fang Qiu and the others had long since forgotten the initial reason the old man started talking about the top ten core spirits. They even urged him to continue with their eyes, which he did after taking another sip of wine.
"Fourth is the hourglass. It can stop time for one second every day in all the realms without anyone noticing a thing. To those nearby it just looks like the cultivator can teleport, and the only reason people knew about its existence was because its previous owner was a showoff.
The fifth core spirit's form isn't known. All that people found out up till this point is that the cultivator owning the fifth ranked core spirit can master any skill in a matter of seconds, no matter the difficulty. Many powerful cultivators have theorised it should be a metal element core spirit
Sixth is the purple lightning. The cultivator can summon heavenly tribulation onto others and increase or lower the power of existing tribulations.
Seventh…is one of the most powerful cultivators currently alive! This person has a water element cloning ability and as long as a single one is alive he cannot be killed!
The eighth is a horrifying ability that left many legends behind...." keeping the suspense the old man casually took out another fresh jar of wine and slowly took a sip"
"Master, please tell us already, no need to keep the suspense. We already know all of them are heaven defying abilities." Blind Ye told an empty spot besides him.
"Allright, allright, I will tell you but first I need to tell you about number nine and ten, as these two are closely connected to my reason of telling you all this story.
Number nine...was wiped out of existence....by number ten."
"WHAT" all four of them yelled out at the same time.
Ignoring their reactions the old man continued "Number ten is known as the heavenly ruler. Capable of changing any one thing below heaven. But its owner can only use it a single time before it disappears to find a new host. The heavens always announce a change from the heavenly ruler before it goes into effect or as far as we know this is the case. Hence how people know about the changes. So far it has been used three times but this is only the most likely scenario, the ten are a unique existence and contain unfathomable depths!
The first time it was used to wipe the ninth core spirit out of existence. Everyone even forgot what it is or does because of the usage of the ruler.
The second time it was used to change the fate of the ten great core spirits. Everyone used to know who and where they were and the owner of the ruler at the time got hunted across many realms. Finally in his dying moments he made a rule to give the ten a life free from constant fleeing and murder: the ten cannot be divined and cannot be recognised by normal means. But, you see…This old man has secrets of his own and my means are by no standard considered normal!
"This finally brings me back to my main point.
