23 Winchester Brothers

We arrive at the church and I can already see an old Impala standing near it.

"Thanks for the ride. If I'm in this area again, I will call you," I say and give the taxi driver $200 with a smile and leave the taxi.

"Please don't," he says and drives off.

I shrug at this and walk to the familiar-looking Impala... and I was pretty sure this was the same Impala as in Stanford. Once you see such beauty, you won't forget it.

To be sure that these are my guys, I walk to the trunk and then use my new favorite magic trick to open it up.

But instead of saying the incantation, I say it in my mind and visualize how the locking mechanisms would move, then press the button to open it up, and it simply works.

Witchcraft is crazy in this world. I tried a lot of things during my lifetime, including incantations from people who believe they can perform witchcraft... but it never worked.

The only thing that has always worked was writing down soul names after Cthylla told me about their purpose.

But after seeing spells and reading about them, it's like a new door opened that allows me to do it... this could open a lot of possibilities, but first I need to see if I can do more than the standard magic artist on TV...

Maybe I have a bit of time after finding Cthylla to study the grimoire more and see what else I can do... I'm pretty sure she would like to try it too.

After being positively surprised by my own abilities, I open the trunk. Raise the cover and like in my Mustang, I find a bunch of tools to hunt supernatural beings... and even a beautiful grenade launcher.

I mean if you can't kill it then blow it up and it would probably work 85% of the time...

So after looking through some of their collection, I wrote down some stuff that I need to buy too, including the grenade launcher, and closed the trunk again.

Then I walk towards the house next to the church. But when I come closer, I sense a familiar aura under the church, probably in the basement.

Like a fingerprint, auras are unique for every person and being, so after meeting someone, I can always identify the person the aura belongs to.

That's why I can tell that the person in the church is the guy from Stanford, and the second one must be his brother.

But there is something strange...

The Stanford guy emits an aura like a ticking clock, steady and peaceful. His brother's aura does the same but seems more unstable, as if something tries to manipulate it.

No idea what this is, but it's not normal for sure... Since I can't find out more about it from here, I walk to the church and open the door.

---

The church is nothing special, just some benches, an altar, and a cross like in every church. Also, except for the two brothers downstairs, I can't sense anything special here.

There is no monster here, but also no higher power that should be watching such 'holy' places like this...

When I walk a bit forward, the ground crackles, and at the same moment, I can sense the brothers downstairs start moving towards me.

So I wait for them to come up a bit away from the door to the staircase to not surprise them. Because I don't think it's wise to scare some hunters...

They open the door slowly and peer out while the guy I met in Stanford has a shotgun in his hands. When they see me in my police uniform, they freeze, and I wave with a smile at them.

"Oh crap!" says my shotgun friend panicky and closes the door again.

What the...

"... I already saw you. Come out; we have to talk," I say to them since I can sense them still be behind the door.

"Sammy, you go out..."

"No, why should I? You're the older brother; you go out," says the Sammy guy, so the other one must be Dean.

"Yeah, I'm still here and waiting..." I say while getting annoyed.

Then I hear them push each other until they stop, and Sam says, "Wait, this police officer... his face is somewhat familiar."

Oh? He remembers me from somewhere?

"What do you mean?" asked Dean, sounding confused.

"When Jess died... they found a guy dead outside, and I'm pretty sure it's him."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I will never forget that night..."

The next moment, they storm back out, and Dean points his shotgun at me.

"Easy there, let's talk, actually Bo---" I try to say before getting interrupted...

"Yeah, we should talk... For example, how can a dead guy stand in front of us?!" asks Dean and comes closer with the shotgun.

"In a world where ghosts and other supernatural beings are at every corner... a guy who comes back from the dead freaks you out?" I ask him, raising my brow.

"Yes...?" says Dean, confused, and still doesn't put down the shotgun...

"Stop beating around the bush and tell us what you know about the night Jess died!" says Sam and grabs me by my shirt collar.

"Jess? You mean Jessica Moore? I have no idea, but I---"

"Liar!" interrupts Sam and tightens his grip.

This is the second time someone thinks I have done something to that woman...

"Sam..." says Dean to calm him down, but Sam doesn't hear anything and looks like he is completely out of control.

"Ok... this gets annoying..." I say after having enough of this and grab Sam's arms.

Then I spin him around and use the momentum to throw him towards Dean. This catches them off guard, and Sam crashes into Dean, and they both fall to the ground."

"Damn! Sam, move!" Dean pushes Sam to the side and aims at me.

But I dash forward and kick the shotgun away.

*Bang!*

A shot rings out, and strange-looking projectiles crash into the wall next to me, leaving an impact behind.

I grab my borrowed pistol and aim at them and say, "Let's calm all down, shall we? Like I tried to say, I'm here because Bobby Singer sent me to help you."

They first look at me like they are ready to still fight even at gunpoint, but after hearing Bobby's name, their looks change to confusion and I holster my pistol again.

---

Then Dean asks after a few moments, "Why should Bobby send you? We haven't spoken to him in years.".

Sam stands up and helps Dean up too, then says somewhat guilty, "Actually, I called him before getting here... to ask him if he knows where Dad is."

"You did? But still that doesn't explain why he would send him or why this guy is still alive." says Dean and picks up the shotgun.

Here we go again...

I sigh and say, "Bobby sent me because I have the right skills to help you find your father... and the dead guy thing, well let's say it like that, I was not really dead at that moment, more like in a dead-like state..."

Their faces show that they want to know more. However, before they can ask, the front door of the church begins to open and we back away to hide.

Dean and Sam step back behind the door to the basement, while I simply walk upstairs where there are more benches for visitors.

After the door opens, a young woman walks in, appearing unwell. This woman is likely Lori Sorenson… She pays no attention to the damaged wall and proceeds to the benches, where she sits down and begins to cry.

We leave our hiding spaces afterwards, and Dean signals to Sam to go talk with the young woman, while waving at me with his shotgun to follow him through a side door.

"I remember you... you're the guy who asked me for directions in Stanford, and even back then, there's something off about you."

I would say you explain everything now, or I will show you what I can do best," says Dean threateningly after we enter a corridor.

"Oh? And what would that be?" I ask him calmly.

He puts on his scary face and comes closer, saying, "Killing monsters."

Scary...

Yeah, this conversation leads nowhere. These guys are way too hot-blooded and emotional... and sooner or later, this will be their death sentence...

I sigh and say, "Listen, Bobby sent me here to help, and only because of him, I haven't kicked your ass again by now... so do we continue like this? Or can we talk like normal people?"

He looks at me for a while, then sighs too and says more calmly, "Fine, so why did Bobby specifically send you here to help us?"

I lean against the wall behind me and wish I had a drink, then say,

"The same reason why I knew that day that something was wrong in your brother's apartment... I can sense the beings around me and even further away with some more preparation."

"Like a telepath or something like that?" He asks, seemingly believing me.

"Yeah, but with more limitations..."

He stays quiet for a while and then asks, visibly tense, "So, do you know what caused the fire?"

"Yes, a demon... I later was attacked by one too and ended up in the morgue because of it..."

This makes Dean clench his fists for some reason, but he doesn't raise his voice and says, "Do you know its name or did it have something that can make us recognize it?"

"Yes, it---" I don't finish my sentence and turn towards Sam and Lori.

There is suddenly a ghost next to them, but its aura is not like the ghost girl's restless, instead it is violent and angry...

"What is it?" asks Dean confused, but then his eyes widen and he raises his shotgun while running into the main hall.

After following him, we enter the hall, only to see a guy in a trench coat and a black hat standing there.

He raises his right hand, or at least that's what it should be, because it is a hook... and chases after the fleeing Sam and Lori.
