9 Chapter 9

The day is finally here. Elvis can't be more excited and Audrey can't be any more nervous. She has her bag in her hand and her phone in the other. Luckily, her mother isn't home right now and won't be home until later the day, making it a perfect opportunity to get away.

Lost in her thoughts, she doesn't hear the car honk twice before honking the third time, louder and longer making her jump out of her thoughts.

Elvis jumps out of the car, opening the trunk for her to put in her luggage. He then picks her up running in circles, happiness taking over him. Audrey feels oddly comforted by the beautiful sound of his laugh.

'Maybe it will all be okay after all' she assures herself.

"How have you been?" Elvis asks putting her back on her feet,

Audrey walks into the car while answering, "Pretty good, pretty bad. Eh," She shrugs,

"We'll be okay,"

Elvis takes her hand, giving it a small squeeze as if promising he'll be by her side. And like she always does, Audrey believes him.

They continue their journey for almost 2 hours, talking and laughing, singing and dancing. Audrey falls asleep in her seat, completely exhausted. Elvis turns down the radio to let her rest for a bit while he takes them to their destination.

A while later, Elvis wakes Audrey up as they have arrived at their destination.

Audrey checks her phone wondering how her mother hasn't called her once since they got away, forgetting she has blocked her number before starting their journey.

"I got a call from dad like 10 times," Elvis chuckles,

"Oh," Audrey mumbles, "I blocked my mom's number," she continues, making Elvis laugh at her boldness.

They carry their bags out, into the motel they rented until they could find an apartment. They set out their clothes in the closet and the food they bought in the fridge.

It's pretty late and Audrey isn't feeling like eating, therefore she heads to bed after changing into her pyjamas.

Elvis follows after eating his dinner.

The next morning Elvis wakes up before Audrey, making it a perfect opportunity to cook breakfast for them like he always wanted.

Last night, Audrey had a hard time falling asleep, the new environment making it uncomfortable. She's always had a hard time falling asleep in new places or adjusting quickly. However, the familiar scent of Elvis and the homely feeling of his torso had helped her slowly drift off into a deep doze.

As Elvis is starting to make a pancake mix. The motel room phone rings. Elvis quickly wipes his hands and picks it up, wondering who would call at this time of the morning.

"Mr. Wilson, there are police officers wanting to have a word with you and the girl that's staying with you. Please come down to the lobby as soon as possible. Thank you!"

The call ends, not giving Elvis a chance to talk.

"Shit shit shit," He mumbles repeatedly, taking off the apron as fast as possible before running into the bedroom.

"Audrey, wake up. We need to get out of here," he shakes Audrey awake.

Audrey wakes up still processing what's going on, watching as Elvis runs around shoving everything into the luggage they brought with them.

"Elvis, what's going on?"

Elvis replies not giving her a second glance, "They caught us. They know where we are. There are police officers in the lobby waiting for us,"

"Then how are we going to get away without them seeing us?"

"We're jumping out the window,"

Audrey laughs nervously, waiting for him to say he's joking already.

Audrey says, "Oh, you're for real," when she realizes he isn't kidding,

Elvis stops his actions for a second before continuing again, "Come on love, Get dressed and wash your face,"

"Look, Elvis. We can think about this. Let's think of something else. Jumping out the window is a stupid idea,"

"Do you have a better idea, Audrey? We don't have time to think of something better. This is our only choice, so just trust me alright? If we don't make it out by the next, probably, 3 minutes, they'll come breaking into the room,"

And that is Audrey's cue to get up and get dressed. Even as stupid as this idea is, she wouldn't want to be taken back to the hellhole by a bunch of police officers.

Two minutes later, they have their luggage by the window. Just as they are about to jump, they hear a loud bang on the door.

Elvis mumbles, "Shit," helping Audrey jump out the window before throwing the luggage out and following himself.

They break the door open just as Elvis and Audrey jump out. Elvis swings the luggage over his shoulder. They run to the car as fast as they can and throw the luggage into the backseat, pulling out of there as fast as possible.

Elvis sighs in relief thinking they've gotten away without getting caught. Or as he thought.

Minutes into their journey to an unidentified place, they hear police sirens. There isn't only one or two police cars. There are three police cars following them far behind.

Audrey feels like she's about to pass out in fear and to make it worse, she feels nauseous.

Looks like it's going to be a long ride.

Audrey only wishes their lives wouldn't be spent running and hiding all the time.
