4. Taking a mission

WDO - 4

_______________

"Tzu village, what a weird name for a place like this." Damien said as he read the information on his screen and walked passed other people to the old man at the back of the building.

The village where he began was disappointingly a level 1 village.

He dismissed the screen as he stopped in front of the old man.

"Hello sir, I'd like to accept your mission." he said as he reached the old man that had an angry expression on his face.

"Hmph...your level is too low. Come back when you're at level 5." the old man said as he sat down crossed legged on the floor.

"I believe you are underestimating me. I may not look like it, but I have a lot of experience."

The man turned and glanced at Damien's stats and saw an empty exp bar, meaning that he just started.

The man's brows furrowed as he thought about what experience this boy was talking about.

"Sigh..." the old man decided not to ponder over it too much.

"Fine, I'm even having headaches from all of these people bothering me. If you really want to help then here!" the man said as he swiped his hand.

*Ding Ding*

Damien heard a notification sound as a blue transparent screen appeared in front of him.

=====

[New quest: Go to the twin mountains valley and collect the list of herbs for the old man Shu.]

[-Green mint apple (0/1)

-Panini carrot (0/1)

-Frozen Jade flower (0/1) ]

[Target limit: One week

Mission difficulty: Level 5 (Not achieved)

Mission rewards: -500 exp

- 1 silver coin

-200 bronze coins.

Special reward: ???

(The special reward depends on the impression the old man gets from you) ]

=====

'Wow!, no wonder nobody has qualified for it yet, it's just tiredness that allowed the man to give it to me'

Damien smiled at his luck as he bowed to the man and began to make his way out of the village.

He looked to his left and saw some players at a weapon store busy buying equipment.

"What a bunch of amateurs!" He sneered as he ignored the players.

It was clear that they didn't have any experience with games at all.

Number one rule; Never rush to spend your money as in game events and offers may come at any time.

Damien thought of the same system screen again and it appeared before him. He could already guess how this works. His brain is already linked to game right now so that's why thoughts can be used to summon the system screen.

The game developers will probably be able to read their minds too.

But he doesn't care.

Damien located the place thanks to a map from the system. When he looked at the twin mountains there were caves at the top of each so he zoomed in to check the info.

=====

[Twin mountain frost cave: Level 50

Percentage chance in passing - 0% (impossible)]

[Twin mountain fire cave: Level 51

Percentage chance in passing - 0% (Impossible)]

=====

"It's great that I'm not going towards the main mountain. Just to retrieve some herbs on the valley below the mountain." He said, smiling.

Looking at the mountain peaks on the map, they were red in colour, indicating danger. He guessed that when he reaches a higher level then the colour will probably change.

"According to the information of this mission. There should be basic monsters here that I can fight." He said as he walked into the forest that.

*Ding Ding*

Damien stopped in his tracks as he heard a notification sound.

He opened his status screen and tapped on inventory which had a red dot hanging above it.

=====

[Beginners spear (F rank)]

[Physical damage: 60. ]

[ Stats required.

Strength - 3

Speed - 3

Agility - 3

Stamina - 20. ]

=====

Damien was kind of glad that he didn't start off without stats. His stats were just a little higher than the requirement stats so he equipped the spear.

A blue light appeared in front of him.

Putting his hand into the light he grabbed something solid and pulled it out.

It was a long spear with a wooden body and a silver head. It didn't look like anything special at all, just some wood with iron at a sharp tip.

'But I can use it to kill monsters. Wait a minute, why was I given a spear?' he thought.

Most of the games he played the warrior class or the knight classes are all given one weapon, a sword. But it seems that this game gives different weapons instead.

He had already seen people with swords around.

He swung the spear around, spinning and rotating it, getting used to wielding a spear.

The reason that Damien chose to become a warrior was that he knew how to fight.

Not Street fighting, but real martial art.

He learned a lot from the karate clubs that he attended after school secretly, all so he can be the best player in a game.

After familiarising himself with the spear, Damien thought it was time to venture into the forest to complete the mission.

Following the map, he took a few turns before going straight up towards the twin mountains.

After a while of walking deeper and deeper into the forest he stopped seeing players around.

'Seems like I've passed everyone's comfort zone... And I'm still going forward' he chuckled as he continued going forward.

Some players saw this young boy who was with a spear going deeper into the forest and and one of them just scoffed.

"This guy surely doesn't care for his level."

"He may not die in the game but the pain is also stimulated. After all, this game was made to be 100% full dive."

"I guess some people don't understand that."

The group of three players then continued hunting, increasing their levels.

...

*Whoo woo*

Damien turned around and saw monkeys on the trees. There were seven of them and they were all looking at him fight now.

He appraised them by looking straight for two seconds.

=====

[Vicious monkeys - Attack anything that have life and other creatures that are five levels above them]

[Level 2

HP - (200/200)

Mana - (10/10) ]

=====

"They don't even have much mana in them.

Can I see their skills." He swiped the screen to their skill section.

=====

[Player's level is below the appraised.]

=====

"Well, I guess that's a no." He said as he dismissed the screen and turned to the ten creatures in the tree.

He held the long spear tightly.

Rule number two; Always remain calm, no matter the situation.

He took a stance immediately, ready to combat these belligerent creatures.

The vicious monkeys are only worth 10 exp.

Damien is an expert gamer also so he has played over fifty VRMMOs already.

We'll see how he'll deal with the monkeys in the next chapter.
