Limitless Possibilities

If you got the power to do anything, what would you do?

This kind of question is one that could be used in an icebreaker, you know, those questions that are used to get get to know others. No one would ever be able to imagine what they would do if they actually got this limitless power.

I am Jay, an 18 year old senior in high school. I have submitted my applications to various colleges, but I was unable to get into my top choice. The alternatives that I was accepted to are still good universities. I am going for mechanical engineering as my major.

Anyways, it was a Friday night, and I was lying down in my bed to go to sleep that night. Suddenly, this question popped into my mind. I admit that I was having many random thoughts, but this one was different. It felt very vivid, like I actually had this power. Without any particular thought behind it, I looked towards my nightstand, barely making out a Rubik's cube I had there. I tried making it float into the air.

...

There, an incomprehensible scene unfolded before my eyes. In the darkness of my room, I see my Rubik's cube rise up and stop, floating in midair. I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

...

I am fine now. It was just unbelievable, seeing an object floating in midair like this. I make the Rubik's cube land gently on my nightstand again. I still feel doubtful about this. How could such a limitless power exist? I decide to do another test.

I look toward my closet door and I softly close it with my new power. Then, I imagine what I want to do. A dimensional door: a door that acts as a gate between two different spaces. I make a subspace behind my closet door, imagining a flat plain of grass.

I tentatively open my eyes. I see light spilling from around my closet door. I get out of my bed and step in front of the door. I gently open the door.

...

The scene from my mind shows itself from the other side of the door. The flat plain of grass I envisioned in my mind reflected in my eyes. I gently lean down and feel the grass on the other side of the door. It feels just like real grass.

I gently close the door and disconnect the door from the subspace I created. I open the door again and I see the inside of my closet. I go back to my bed and lay down on it.

Okay, I can accept the fact that I have a limitless power, but I still feel perturbed about it.

My mind races with many thoughts.

First, I should use this power sparingly. Even if I can do anything, I still value my life as a person. I have no desire to become a god. Boredom is something that all-powerful beings face. Being able to do anything with but a thought takes away the fun of doing things with your own hands.

Second, although I should use this power sparingly, it does not mean I should not use it at all. I have the power to do anything I can imagine. Why shouldn't I use it? For example, I will use this power to improve my intelligence slightly if I face difficulties in my studies in the future.

Third, this power can be extremely dangerous. It is possible for me to adjust my personality, but if I adjust it in a bad way, it could mean the end of everything. With this being said, I am banning myself from tampering with my own personality. I also restrict my power to only being activatable with conscious thoughts. I don't want to accidentally destroy the world with a stray thought after all. Essentially, I need to 'will' something in order to use my power.

Fourth, in case I might die from say, being hit by a car or some accident, I should make it so that at least my soul and consciousness will survive even if my body dies. I don't know if souls actually exist, but in my perspective of life, they exist, so I can use my power to make my soul immortal. I should also make my body more sturdy to increase my survivability. I do this with my parents, my sister, grandma, and aunt too, all of whom I live with. One more thing that I should do is to place an alert on my loved ones to tell me when they are in danger.

Every time I want to use my power and 'will' something, I get the feeling that I used my power, so I am assuming I succeed in doing whatever I envisioned. If this power is as limitless as I think it is, there is no need to doubt whether it works or not whenever I use it.

I let out a yawn. Even though I could use my power to eliminate my physical and mental exhaustion, I don't really want to. There is no need for me to erase the limitations of the human body. Plus, sleeping feels nice. I resolve myself to think more about my power tomorrow as I close my eyes to sleep.

With this power, my life and future are fully under my control. Immersed in the limitless possibilities of my future, I slowly drift off to sleep.
