Part 1: A Humble, Quiet Life

(very quick introduction.)

Hello, reader. I go by the pen name HamChan, this story has been written a while back I decided to rewrite and post it on this platform. Quick disclaimer, I did NOT draw/create the cover art of the book. I will be creating my own version in due time. For now, I will use it as a substitute.

Why did I write this story? My dream and goal in life is to become a person who creates stories that entertain people, make them laugh, make them cry, and all those good stuff. I hope that as I continue to write this story, you provide me with your support as a reader.

That is all. I hope you enjoy the story as much as how excited I am to write it.

Also, the whole story was inspired by the first ending song of Kaguya sama love is war, so go check it out. It's a great anime.)

Now enjoy the first chapter.

It was a bright sunny day, the sun was shining down on a farm a few kilometers away from the closest town. A young boy was carrying a bucket full of water to give to the farm animals. He wore a white long sleeve and a dark blue suspender that were both covered in dirt, he wiped the sweat off his forehead and continued to walk towards a large red barn, filled with cows and pigs. The barn was filled with large pens that separated each cows and pigs into groups, he placed down the bucket he was holding down with another group of buckets filled with water. He stretched his upper body and got ready to feed them. One of the pigs in the far left side of the barn was looking at him, trying to grab his attention.

He walked up to the pig, it had a distinct look than the rest that could easily tell it apart from the others. It had a small left ear and had an unusually large right one, it also had a black patch of skin that resembled a diamond.

"Hey, Gem! How are you, little guy?" The boy said as he rubbed the pig named Gem's chin. Gem hopped around like a dog that saw his master again after a long day of work.

"Wanna eat? I have some food ready!" Gem squealed with excitement.

The boy ran to the barn's backside where most of the farm food where kept. It was mostly leftover crops and other sorts of things pigs could eat, he doesn't even know what's in it himself. They were all placed in old sacks that weren't needed. He took one out of the pile and poured it down to their feeding stations, it was just connected on their pens' gates.

While the other pigs were eating the pile of random food and crops, Gem seemed to be sitting down waiting for something. The boy, coming to his sense realized what Gem was waiting for.

"Oh! Right, Right. Here you go." He pulled out something from one of his suspender's pockets. It was a freshly pulled out carrot, the carrots that were growing on the farm were ready for harvest and he pulled one out just for Gem.

"Sho! I need your help with this!" A voice outside the barn yelled. Sho looked at the voice's direction and replied, "Alright! Coming!"

He turned back to Gem and threw the carrot inside the pen. Gem's eyes gleamed as the carrot gracefully fell down the air like a graceful swan. Gem jumped up high in the air, like a dog catching a stick.

As the carrot was within Gem's reach, he could see something from the corner of his eye, it felt like it was slow motion, he could see another pig, coming in to take the carrot. He was too small to overpower the large beast so he watched in horror as he watched the fresh, orange carrot was being devoured by the giant beast.

He squealed in horror, to the other pigs it sounded like a sound of pain and anguish, as the other pig ate Gem's carrot he looked at him and gave him a confused look. It looked like it was asking him, "What's wrong?"

Gem oinked, It most likely meant "Nothing." In a really sad oink.

Sho ran outside, the sun shined down on him even harder than earlier, he saw a man outside with a wheelbarrow filled carrots waving at him from a distance. He wore a dark red shirt and black pants. He has his sleeves rolled up, covered in sweat as he pushed the wheelbarrow full of freshly pulled out carrots.

"Sho! Give me a hand with these things!" The man said as he pushed the wheelbarrow forward. He ran down hurriedly, almost tripping on a rock.

"Sho! Be careful!" He yelled as he saw him stumble on a rock.

"Sorry, Uncle Kenji!" Sho yelled as he ran to his Uncle Kenji, panting.

His Uncle Kenji owned the farm, he slowly built it up from scratch with the help of Sho's father. Which was his brother, Kenji saved up enough money to get the manpower and materials to build it. After a few years, they finally managed to build everything including a two-floor farmhouse that had enough rooms to make sure guests would stay comfortable.

"The farm's grown quite a bit wouldn't you agree?" Kenji puffed his chest proudly. As he looked at his farm and praised it, all of his blood, sweat, and tears were put into it.

"Yeah, it really has Uncle Kenji. I'm proud of you." Sho replied as he marveled at the view of the farm.

"Enough fooling around and help me with these!" Kenji yelled, Sho was caught off guard and yelped.

"Y-Yes, sir!" Sho immediately grabbed a nearby wheelbarrow and placed some carrots in his wheelbarrow. The weight of Kenji's wheelbarrow significantly got lighter.

"Thanks, that was taking a toll on my back, anyways.."

Sho looked at him, he could see a competitive grin on his face, one that he recognized.

"Last one at the farmhouse has to clean the whole house!" He yelled as he went speeding faster than the eye could see, It took sho a second to process it before he realized what was happening.

"H-Hey! I wasn't expecting that! Wait for me!" He ran after him as fast as he could, trying his best to catch up to him.

"That's not fair! Wait up!" He continued to chase after him, but it was already too late. He already managed to reach the farmhouse before Sho could come halfway, what was surprising though, was not a single carrot fell down from Kenji's wheelbarrow. He never understood how he could run so fast.

Finally, Sho caught up with Kenji. But it didn't really matter. He knew he had to clean the whole house now anyway.

"That wasn't fair! You caught me off guard!" Sho nagged, though it seemed like the words just went by Kenji's head like it was just background noise.

"Blah Blah, all I hear is you nagging. You better start cleaning!" Kenji howled with laughter, he fully embraced his victory and didn't have a single care in the world.

"I'm just kidding, I'll help you clean the house," He said in a laughing manner. "We should put these carrots near storage first though."

Sho sighed in relief. "Alright, then we can eat breakfast?"

Kenji nodded, "We can have your favorite scrambled egg with cheese." It was Sho's favorite breakfast. A thick layer of scrambled egg at the bottom and a large amount of cheese on top, followed by his Uncle Kenji's special ingredients.

Sho shouted triumphantly, filled to the brim with energy. "What are we waiting for? The last one washes the dishes!"

Kenji laughed, "You're on, Sho!" They raced once again into the distance, as the sun shined bright as ever down upon them.
