27 Two Prisoners in the Dungeon

I'd like to know which animal would be most interesting for Nathaniel to have. A Tiger? Falcon? or another? (They'll have ice powers)

Nathaniel returned to the school grounds, but this time he was floating, carrying two paralysed bodies.

He returned to the entrance of the secret passage in the Battle Willow.

He cast the Patron Charm and summoned his corporeal eagle to send a message to the headmaster.

Only a few seconds passed.

Poof...

Dumbledore was standing in front of him.

"What is it, Nathaniel?" he asked. He noticed the two men hovering behind the wizard.

"I overheard an interesting conversation during the night," he said as he used his wand to bring the men closer.

Dumbledore recognised the faces and there was a slight shock on his face.

"Remus... and Sirius," he said in surprise. "What happened?" he asked.

"I found a passage through the Battle Willow that led me to them," Nathaniel told the Headmaster about the passage and what had happened afterwards.

"But I think you were already aware of such a passage?" He asked with wisdom in his eyes.

"You're right, it was necessary years ago." Dumbledore assumed he was aware of the path.

He answered, recalling the events of when Remus was bitten by a werewolf and forced to fear the nights of the full moon.

"In the conservation between the two, I was able to get some important information," he continued. "Some about the Potters, but it has yet to be evaluated."

With a subtle flick of his wrist, Dumbledore summoned his wand and cast a physical Patronus towards the castle.

"I've sent a message for Severus to meet us in the dungeons," the elder wizard said.

"Snape?" Nathaniel asked.

"Yes, we'll let you both rest there for now, and Snape will be a great help in getting the information," the headmaster explained.

He said as he looked at Remus and Sirius again.

"Of course, Headmaster," he replied.

{Dungeons}

The castle dungeons were dark and damp, their walls close to the waters of the Black Lake.

Footsteps could be heard coming down the stairs.

"How good of you to join us, Severus," Dumbledore greeted as Snape arrived on the scene.

"Of course, Headmaster," he replied, noticing the two bodies under surveillance. "So Lupin really is helping the murderer Sirius Black." A gleam of disgust flashed across his eyes.

"I believe so, Severus," Dumbledore replied with sadness in his voice. "But Nathaniel has important information about the case," he said as he looked at Nathaniel to continue telling him about the case.

"First, I'd like to know about Sirius Black's trial before he went to Azkaban," he said, trying to quell his curiosity about that part of the story of the Potters' betrayal that he had already heard.

"I'm afraid such a trial never took place, Nathaniel," Dumbledore replied, further deepening his understanding of some events that didn't seem to make sense.

"I see! That might explain a few things, Headmaster," Nathaniel mused. "I heard Sirius claim that he wasn't the one who betrayed the Potters," he said to the astonishment of those present.

"Ridiculous, just wanting someone else to take the blame for his mistake," Severus said with anger in his eyes. He remembered that Black was to blame for the death of his beloved.

"Anything else?" Dumbledore asked.

"Yes, according to the conversation I overheard. He blames his childhood friend Peter Pettigrew," he said, delivering one shocking piece of news after another.

"Already dead!" Snape's anger grew, and he hadn't attacked Sirius Black because of Dumbledore's presence. "There was nothing left of him after Black attacked him."

"This story is well known, but Black and Lupin claim that Peter was an Animagus and faked his death to escape from Azkaban." The third piece of big news came from Nathaniel.

"Animagus? They could have done that to help Lupin's situation." Dumbledore thought, knowing that the four of them were very close and could have performed the Animagus ritual to accompany Remus during his transformations.

The Headmaster now turned his attention to Snape, who would be a great help in confirming all the information he had gained that evening."I need you to prepare two vials of the Potion of Truth, Severus," he ordered Snape.

"A better idea would be to send them both to Azkaban," Snape growled and made his suggestion.

The Headmaster didn't take him up on it.

"I'm afraid that's not possible now, Severus," he said, "Sirius may have useful information against You-Know-Who."

"I also think it's best to keep them both in custody for now."Nathaniel agreed with the Headmaster. "And check the veracity of the information," he added.

"As you say, Headmaster," Snape agreed in disgust. He thought back.

When they had been at Hogwarts, the two of them, now prisoners, had accompanied James Potter in his attacks on him. "We'll have to wait until tomorrow for the potion to be ready." Snape expressed how long it would take to have the potions in hand.

"Don't rush Severus, we'll keep an eye on them, I'll ask the castle house elves to make sure they stay in the dungeon," the headmaster explained.

"One more thing, Headmaster," Nathaniel pointed to another topic.

"And what would that be?" Dumbledore asked curiously, not least because he had already noticed that Nathaniel was carrying a parcel.

"It seems that Black wanted to present young Potter with a new broom," he said as he lifted the package in question. "I checked it out and didn't notice anything wrong with it," he said as he passed the package to Dumbledore to assess as well.

Dumbledore contemplated the object for a few moments.

"Everything seems right, and I think Sirius as Harry's godfather wouldn't hurt him," he deduced.

"Just like you did to his parents?" Severus reminded him that Sirius was the one considered guilty of betraying the Potters.

Dumbledore wanted to defend Sirius, but he would have to wait to be sure.

"Tomorrow we will know the whole truth, Severus, tomorrow." Dumbledore intervened in defense.

"What about Professor Lupin? I don't think it will go down well with the council that he helped a criminal get into Hogwarts." Nathaniel pointed out another issue that would be raised when everything was revealed.

"Maybe it won't be a problem," the principal said. "We always need to change Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers every school year." He ended up knowing about the curse placed on this position by Tom Riddle.

"I believe Remus will only be with us for this school year." He finished the question.

Many decisions were being made that evening.

"Harry had asked Lupin to teach him the patronus spell, would it be all right for me to take over?" Nathaniel asked.

Dumbledore took a few seconds to think and then gave the affirmative.

"As the dementors unfortunately seem to be close to him, I don't see a problem," he said. "And about the broom! Harry will be happy to receive a present on Christmas morning."

Dumbledore withdrew his wand and pointed it at his still paralyzed former students.

"Enervate," the counter-spell shot from his wand towards the two of them.

"Hmmm... much better that way," Lupin said, taking control of his body again.

"Who's that bastard?" Sirius growled in Nathaniel's direction.

"I need a lot of explaining, Remus," Dumbledore said with a twinkle in his eye.
