The beginning of war

A week passed since I was promoted to decurion rank and I was continuously training because I know that the war will start in the next 5 days. I need to be a great addition in the war to come one step closer to my dream.

I now can take down a few squad alone and because of my strength my reputation has risen significantly among the fellow soldiers, ofcourse not everyone likes me as I am the youngest decurion many people are jealous of me but I don't really care about it.

"This is an announcement for decurion Harry you are being summoned at the commander's camp"

What! Commander is calling me I better go right now I don't want to be on his bad side.

When I arrived at the commander's camp a heavy voice approached me "is that decurion harry?" Just by his voice i was nervous as i already knew about his past, he was once a great soldier but after when he asked the earl for him to grant the commander knighthood the earl refused to do so as he has some misconception about the commander and after that commander became an alcoholic.

I went inside the camp and saw the commander drinking he told me to sit infront of him as he wanted to have a conversation with me. I sat infront of him as he ordered me to then he began saying "there are many rumours spreading about you young officer, do you know about them?"

I told him i don't know about any rumours that are spreading about me. The commander laughed and told me he wanted me attack on the enemy's camp and also told me to take 10 soldiers with me and so we will be in the frontline.

To be honest with you I thought to myself that he was just asking me to kill myself on the battlefield with ten men but then I thought that if I succeeded I will become a hero. I agreed on attacking the enemies camps with 10 soldiers that I can choose that told me to leave day after tomorrow. He didn't know that he wasn't sending me to die but he created an opportunity for me to rise above.
